I want a deployable, stationary camera that will track my own ship. It could be destroyable, it could be steal-able, it could even be expensive (thus provoking outrage when the first two things happen). But there is no legitimate reason not to have it (from a gameplay perspective; needing to code it and design an interface for it and all the associated bits and pieces are quite legitimate reasons for them to shy away, but we wants it, we neeeeeds it)
I know devs have talked about wanting to do just this, or at least something similar (they said drones, everything is drones with them) but I don't know if that was a response to a people asking, and equivalent to "yeah, that sure would be nice, maybe we could do it as a drone in the 'future'" or if it's a bullet point in a DDA somewhere (which to me puts more weight on it as a goal they need to meet).
I do agree with the sentiment of the OP, that it's disheartening to see these videos that we cannot reproduce and somewhat dishonest for them to post so many of them. I don't go as far as saying they need to take them all down, because it's just a perspective we can't attain, not really (in my opinion) content that isn't there.

Honestly they just need to put in the normal easy to implement external views that are a ubiquitous feature of space/air sim games. All the contextualizing or limitations just take developer time that is much needed elsewhere while simultaneously making the feature less worth having in the first place.
Simple easy normal orbit, chase, side, rear, drop, pan and flyby cams would take almost no time at all, some fixed camera view would be nice and would only take a little extra time as they would have to be placed for each ship type. That's it... Frankly I'd be happy enough with that only being available in solo and private group but I doubt its worth the dev time to put a filter in and it would just make people even less likely to play open, so I say leave it for everyone to enjoy.

Why? FD have always said that if camera drones were to come in they would only be for vanity/scenery shots. Once again, just because something is in every other game does not mean it has to be in this one. Still I am glad that it would be easy for you to design and implement a 3rd person camera, but we are straying once again off topic. There are plenty of other threads for the pros and cons.
The argument you made was terrible, not anything specific about what you said. Saying "it looks cool in the trailer so it should be in the game" is a terrible argument. I can't believe you need this explained to you, but here goes.
A trailer is like an old "scene" demo - a static, (usually) non-interactive experience. No gameplay considerations need therefore to be made in the choices of art assets, movement, POV, sound, precalculation, audiovisual post-processing, etc etc. The trailer is trying to portray the spirit of the game in a way that grabs the attention.
A game is a dynamic, interactive experience. This has a completely different set of objectives. In the case of a multiplayer game like this one, you can pile a whole new set of balancing criteria on top.
Saying "they can stick feature X in because I want it, and you can simply not use it if you don't want it", when the feature has a chance of affecting other people's gameplay (no matter how small the chance or slight the effect), is just inconsiderate.
Obviously I don't care for external views unless there is a good gameplay reason for their inclusion, like the planned drone mechanic offers. If that's the way they handle it, then I'm all for it.
(I'm sure doing the space equivalent of watching yourself flex (or worse) in the mirror is a desirable aim for some, however. Have fun with that.)
This is incorrect. SC does indeed allow 3rd person view during combat (vehicular combat). It just isn't particularly useful, because you don't have any HUD and targeting, tracking is impossible. As for the FPS portion of SC it may be true that there won't be a 3rd person toggle.
Pretty much every single simulator I can think of allows external views. From Eurotruck to X-Plane and everything in between. Falcon 4 had a very detailed one and if Falcon 4 wasn't realistic I don't know what to say.
For some reason I can't comprehend, external view is the single most polarizing feature in E : D. For me, it falls in the 'nice to have' category, but it's not crucial. I'd prefer more effort being spent on a more interesting galaxy and complex gameplay.

The reason external cameras are used in trailers is because it gives a more cinematic and visually interesting view of the game world. Put simply it looks cooler.

Balancing considerations are absurd in my view but as I've said before if the devs want to pander to the PvP hardcore then disable camera views in open (and drive more people to private group and solo). That way it would have zero chance of affecting your gameplay but would have a 100% chance substantially improving mine.... Yet you don't want me to get that improved gameplay and I'm the one who is inconsiderate?

Interesting point, well-argued, but I don't think we're misrepresenting the game by showing these shots. You can see other ships when you're playing the game. You just have to see all the screenshots and videos people are taking in-game already.
