MWO doesn't work out, because they made basically "Battlefield 26" (32nd Century Edition) and missed major part of the promises they made, like "large Maps", useful gameplay for scout lances, tactical use of LRM and Arrow IV systems.really, it did not work out so well for MWO did it?. its NOT about competence. I would wager they could add in unlimited external views right now if they wanted... its just if they did it could destroy the balance and the aims of the game if they did, and it is something the devs have said for over a year that they will not do lightly.
You presumably like the way Star Citizen does it.... Personally I worry that those views are going to completely balls up the game for the CMDRs who want to play it from a realistic standpoint. IMO research a product and then choose your purchase accordingly. Have you ever tried playing WarThunder in the cockpit view and going up against 3rd person players?
its a joke.
I am not even against external views, so long as it in no way hampers those who have no interest in it, but equally I am not so flippant as to state it is easy and assume I know it wont affect balance when the devs say otherwise.
Even the latest Release Trailer, yet again gives us a E: D 1.1 promo video with gorgeous external views from in game engine, with no pointer that it is not from the real game, but a Developers "Fake", only!
A very representing 4 seconds(!) of actual in-cockpit view, like how you actually play the game, the rest is EXTERNAL camera... seems Frontier themselves isn't very fond of the "first person only" idea for exciting new players about the game... and, well I'm not really excited, these exciting visuals are missing in my gameplay! Sorry, but I feel cheated.
False advertising, anybody?
I've seen FD distance themselves from the PvP argument, and the reality is that in a 6dof game adding an external camera doesn't make things easier, it makes them harder.
I suspect many players are confusing "external view" with "easy mode" where you point your cursor at a thing and the ship flies at it for you.
That is easy mode. It often lends itself well to external view. But they are two separate things.
Argument: If you have 360 view I can't sneak up behind you.
Counter 1: I have radar and sensors.
Counter 2: I'm a human so I'm not capable of 360 degree vision. The FoV is the same in external view.
Counter 3: The FoV is the same, so if I can see you sneaking up behind me, I can't see the rock I'm about to slam into or the missile pulling up alongside of me.
Counter 4: I can see you sneaking up behind me when I use flight assist off.
Counter 5: If I'm watching you sneak up on me visually through external view, I can't see my instruments to see your friend/missile approaching me from the front.
Argument: External allows you to tell which side of your ship is taking hits.
Counter: You don't look at your instruments often, do you?
Argument: External view breaks immersion.
Counter 1: Don't use it.
Counter 2: My passion for space sims is fueled by entirely too many movies. Lack of external view makes the game boring, boring breaks my immersion. Why is your immersion more important than mine, when supporting both would be done through an option?
Counter 3: How come you don't rage-quit the game when you go to the hangar?
Argument: External view is unrealistic.
Counter 1: The flight model is unrealistic, frameshift is unrealistic, sound in space is unrealistic... This is a game, set a mere 1000 years from now where humans have some how colonized and terraformed tens of thousands of systems. Realistic much? Everyone has to make concessions to reality. For some of us a 31st-century ftl ship that doesn't so much as have a rear view/down-facing camera is unrealistic. Having an external view allows you to mentally abridge that. And unlike the other unrealisms we've all accepted, this would a per-player, per-situation choice.
Argument: External allows you to tell which side of your ship is taking hits.
Counter: You don't look at your instruments often, do you?
These are called straw man arguments. For example.....
They do not show you what weapons are hitting you, the angle they are hitting you, if they are gimbled or fixed (you can tell the difference I hope) and the easiest direction to avoid fire. That doesn't happen with instrument flying, at all.
Your arguments are horrible and you should feel bad.
Actually, if you read through the entire thread, he has basically summarized every argument that was put forward in this megathread and countered them, so these are no straw man arguments, but a summary of what people have actually mentioned before.
Once again - disabling weapons fire control, HUD, and flight control whilst in 3rd person view basically negates any argument about 'advantage '.
True, they are just really bad answers to them.
I have no problem if weapons are off, but there seems to be a good number who thinks they should be on.
Yeah no... that stuff should not be on whilst in external view, otherwise advantage - and we'd never get external view otherwise, it's the only way I see of convincing FDEV that there should be an external view![]()
Wow! So you can tell now, what is just blasting you into pieces, while not being able to shoot back or maneuver properly... great advantage! Go back playing Call of Duty, seems to suite you better. These are called straw man arguments. For example.....

Oh my, this thread is still dredging on and on?
THIS![...]
if little kids pee their pants in fear of the almighty external view make it available in solo mode only.
It'll go on until we get external views - then we'll get a new threadnaught.![]()
We are on it... just wait a bit. Frontier is ignoring so people won't stop asking!Mmm, for threadnought title there's just about 72 more pages to go.
