Fleet Carrier FAQ

Because your carrier is parked in their system and has to comply with their laws, which is why the fine is in the name of the local governing faction. Owning a large spaceship doesn't make you into your own personal government.
If I arrived in any system with the goal of fighting in it (being a pirate), then why do I need an aircraft carrier that will carry out orders from the system authorities, and not from its owner (from me)?

I suppose it's not really like an aircraft carrier at all, as in a large warship with squadrons of attack-aircraft and a protecting fleet, it's really more like a bulk-carrier (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bulk_carrier), as in a large freighter. The fact that you, the pirate, are using it as a base is all the more reason for the local authorities to hang around and ensure law & order is maintained.

And remember, it's not the carrier that scanned you and issued a fine, it was the system security ships; in the same way they would if they found you committing a crime anywhere in their system.

Is there any way to tell if you have visiting Commanders on your carrier?

nope, not really...
You can ask in /system - assuming they're online at the time and on the same platform as you are. But no chance if they're on the other 2 platforms.

you can also move your carrier somewhere on the fringes beyond the jump capabilities of the ships and see if anyone make a "Stranded/Abducted" thread :D

I don't mind visitors but I use my FC as base for 2 accounts on different platforms. When it comes time to move cargo back from storage it would be a bit irritating to have someone take advantage of my bargain basement pricing.

Well... i did that only once (PC/XB)... but it was in a rather circulated area and to be sure, while it lasted, i made sure to keep docking permission Off
You only need to have it ON while requesting docking permission - that is a timeframe of less than 5 seconds.
The permissions are applied instantly so risks are rather minimal.

There are two ways. First you can begin the decommission process and it will let you know how many CMDRs are on board, although i don't think it lists names. You can then back-track from the process.
Secondly, under 'Misc' in your Carrier's Inara page, you'll find a list of CMDRs on board. You'll need someone to use EDMC (etc) to update it.

Does anybody know just how long it takes for a carrier to be decommissioned these days? I've noticed one parked in a nearby system that's been marked as 'decommissioning' for three weeks now. Is there a difference between a carrier who's owner has chosen to decommission it and one that being decommissioned due to lack of funds in the carrier account?
In the Fleet Carrier Owners Club we'd love more detail on this as well. As owners we aren't really into the business of decommissioning, but it's a question that's often asked. Yes a decomissioned carrier seems to stick around in-game for weeks on end. It would be good to know just how long and whether it's consistent or random. If you have any data on this please let me know and i'll put in in our #tools-and-specs channel. Thanks.

I can't find this "Misc", whereabouts is it?

Here is my FC page: https://inara.cz/galaxy-station/189706/

When I decomissioned my FC during the beta it told me 8 days for the decomission, however if you jump the FC during decommission it will reset the decommission period, so it may be that these players FC's have been jumped by the owner, not realising that the decommission period will start from the beginning again. At least that's how it worked during the beta.

Rare commodities dont show up on FC commodities list? Is there any way to buy and sell them from your FC?
I was attempting to collect all the rares needed for engineer unlocks for my other account.

You can store them in your own carrier but not sell them. In order to transfer them to your alt i guess you'll need to jettison them and the alt can pick them up, assuming you're set up for that, or if not then do it via an intermediary. Sorry, that's all i can think of.

Thankyou for that information, looks like it is platform specific but still useful.

I wish it was an option but my alt is on a different platform. I will have to make several stops using my Type 9 for capacity and hope I dont get stuck at one of the stations that won't sell you more if you already have an item in inventory.

Maybe I'm being thick, but that just shows my ships, not my carrier. The carrier name is not on the page: https://inara.cz/cmdr-fleet/98401/
Frankymole, this is how my Inara Fleet page looks like:

Voluntary decommissioning : What do you get back?

Some details from the in-game Codex - Pilot's Handbook :

Requesting Decommission

A carrier owner may decide that they no longer require their fleet carrier. They can request a formal decommission using the Fleet Carrier Management interface.

Owners will be shown the total number of credits that will be reclaimed, alongside the proposed decommission date and the number of assets currently stored. Once confirmed, the fleet carrier will be classed as Pending Decommission.

Upon decommissioning a fleet carrier, pilots will receive a remunerative sum contingent on the following:

  • The purchase cost of all installed facilities aboard the carrier
  • The galactic average price for all non-stolen commodities stored on board and the minimum sale price for all stolen commodities.

If a fleet carrier voluntarily decommissioned, a fee of 125,000,000 cr is deducted from the refund, along with any outstanding debt.

After Decommission

Following decommission, any credits remaining in the fleed carrier budget will be returned to the owner, minus any running costs incurred since the decommission request was submitted. A final inbox message breaking down the total of credits reclaimed will be sent to the owner.

Pilots with ships or modules stored on the newly decommissioned carrier will be informed of the situation via inbox message. These assets can be recovered by following the instructions provided in this message.
