Yep, for sure.
In my commander's mind, it was the actual Feds, and it will continue to be until proven otherwise...
For me the bad guys are more the imps (slaves, empire, that kind of thing...).
Which is why they are above the Feds, they're all out in the open about it, whereas the Feds put on a nice facade, like a rosy red apple, but in reality they're rotten to the core...so to speak...
Everyones evil at some level, even commanders who never shot anything are still guilty as hell.
I just spent the last two months manipulating the BGS of a backwater and had the lowly Anarchy faction wrest control of the system away from a Fed Democracy, took away all their assets in system and then successfully retreated them...

In my mind, while the Feds are certainly not past some shady stuff, as their treatment of the Order of the Far God tells, but this? I don’t see what their interest in Seo is. Azimuth, on the other hand…
The alliance is afraid of war because of its military weakness compared to the other two great powers, but basically it is no better than the others.

The Alliance tolerate any old gov type as long as they ultimately tow the line. Not to mention seem to like terraforming Thargoid worlds, in bed with megacorps, seem to push for control and then suddenly cry foul when someone else has to do the heavy lifting. I mean, did Mahon thank The King for helping out? Did he send a nice letter to the Feds and Imps saying 'hey guys, as the small guy here I appreciate your military industrial complexes'. No. Not a sausage.
Plus they advance the cause of kale.

She has established contact, they may see that as an opportunity or a threat. That's good enough to begin with IMO. Then there is the thought that Seo Jin-ae may find a way to bend the Thargoids to her own will and become their leader and use the Thargoids to exact revenge and/or establish her own Thargoid empire, or they could lead her to believe any of those things..
That's my plan, now that my 2+ months of "BGS 101" are completed. I even got the certificate hanging on the wall in my carrier...
Which is the same reason the Feds, or anyone else, would want control of her...
