It doesn't have to be one or the other. How about FD ban the engineer exploiters AND fix the RNG. Those of us who are left would have a better game because of both.

how fast do you think those people will come back? with quince exploit I take 1 week and they already have combat capable ships.

Hmm you know what, the more I think about it the more I think a PERMANENT, non-negotiable shadow ban is the right solution, bear with me...
I mean it's what Blizzard do, it's what Valve do, and it's what other companies with much more experience (MMORPG "wisdom") with online gaming than Frontier do.
See Frontier really need to speak loudly and clearly on this.
Yes it seems harsh but just look at the reality of it, if your CMDR is perma-shadow banned, a player can just take the hit and get another account. That's it, move past it and it doesn't have to be a big deal for a player does it, lesson learned, message sent to the playerbase that it won't be tolerated and all's good.
On one hand it's harsh in the right way that it sends a clear message, but the reality is for a player if they can take it on the chin, it's not actually that big a deal to nab a new account and Draconis your way back is it.
So for me this is what I think I'd like to see for players using this exploit :
- ALL engineer mods removed
- Player is permanently shadow banned, non-negotiable, non-revertible, just do it

You are constantly screaming about these money exploits that have ZERO impact on you or anyone else in the game, and yet you fail to see the HUGE amount of damage that has already been done to hundreds of players through this Engineer exploit?

No one needs to be banned. As long as all ill gotten gains are removed from the game, it's fine.
Fixing the game is important, punishment is not.

I would venture a guess that for the majority of these lazy, skill challenged cheaters, that would tantamount to a perma-ban anyway. They couldn't handle ranking and upgrading legitimately the first time. What makes you think they would even consider it a second time?

I think EDs problem is that its gameplay has odd gates that don't make sense. For example, why can't I buy panite? Marco Qwent?
If FD reorganised how the game is gated and made everything available if you have the time or the money then I think it would go a long way to change things. I'd love a materials broker who deals in scrap, a bit like Watto in Star Wars, or a data broker who can sell you cracked firmware, but for a high price: these would give players options to progress and not dump them in RNG hell. It might be these brokers act like factions and you need to get allied with them for them to help you, creating ethical dilemmas.
For me punishment is important, otherwise when the next exploit occurs more people will go in for it.
I would like to see a perma-shadow ban, absolutely non-revertible.
It sends the right message and look let's be honest, it's not really a big deal for a player to start a clean slate, grab a new account and Quince their way back to where they were.
It's the course of action that companies with much more online gaming experience that Frontier choose. (Valve, Blizzard)

Frontier cannot guarantee that, but they guarantee they will take serious action against offenders, such that it's just not worth it.
When you stand back and think about it, it's all looking a bit odd.
The thought all this time, those people and groups reknowned for killing players in open, may have been using exploits and cheats to do it.

I like in game stuff better. Losing all cheat mods and having to pay back all the G5 materials they owe the engineers is suitable.
