Games that should be remade.

Very cool nostalgia topic!

My dream for years was (and still is) for these to be remade:

Transarctica
Colorado
Ishar series
Darklands
Dune (the very first one which was an adventure game)

These 5 games (plus Elite, but we have that now!) are my favourite old games of all times and I wish that todays game devs made games like that... Sadly, in most cases that's not the case.

Oh, I forgot to mention Wasteland, but that's done as well :)

::EDIT::

I've had to edit this post... After reading pretty much the whole thread I must say the developers should STOP making any new games and just start remaking old ones! SO MANY great suggestions here! I know it's probably nostalgia talking here plus it never works that way, but I wish the younger generation(s) could be introduced to all those great games we played in the past, but remade to todays standards (graphic- and sound-wise, as opposed to content - and yes I am generalising here) :)

And yet another 2 great games that should be remade are Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura and Lure of The Temptress. The latter was the first game ever to introduce NPC schedules, i.e. the townsfolk were actually wondering around the place, and they weren't always in the same spot. This was a mini revolution in NPC AI as far as I remember...

Star Citizen, from the ground up. snrk

Seriously though, would love to see a new SWIV anyone remember that game?
It probably wasn't even that great but I played the hell out of it because I didn't have many games back then...

- both System Shocks
- a genuine Syndicate remake
- both Crusader games
- Privateer (the remakes based on the VegaStrike engine don't feel like the original)
- Dungeon Keeper (I refuse to accept the remake as a remake)

That's pretty much it for me.

Good news for you, DungeonKeeper is being properly remade, on steam look up War for the Overworld. It's currently in early beta. I've got it, it's the really deal :)

Can someone help me find screenshots or gameplay of a game that I used to play when I was a kid...
I know there are some older people than me here, so I gotta give it a shot.

It was called Retribution.
In was in the early 90s.
Space flight/fight combined with team management and base building on planets.
Can't find anything about it on Google but I know it wasn't just another easy space-shooter, it had complexity. :(

Is this the game you're looking for? :)

Looks interesting, not played it myself but will give it a go, as it reminds me a bit of the 8-bit classic - Tau Ceti. Seems to be classed as abandonware now, so you can play it again here:

EDIT: Just found a vid of the game on Youtube: http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=BPAgb6q6ewc

Played Thanatos for a little bit last night.

With modern hardware, it could be mind blowing :)

No real need for a script or any plot changes - just a shiny 3rd person fiery rampage in one of the gorgeous new engines, Cobra perhaps? :D

Would work well on console & controller too :)

I really enjoyed "Covert Action". Perhaps something like that, with first person views...

I always wondered about the name though. If you are throwing grenades around inside the Russian Embassy in London, where does that get "covert"?

Just popped in here to talk War Thunder and amazed to see this old thread still ticking over nicely.

Nobody mentioned Quazatron though, that has to be desperate for a remake - there's one on retrospec, but it's not up to much IMO, this is game that needs to be remade with a little more depth and a lot more shiny, but the same basic gameplay.

Here's an idea - I'll update the original post in this thread with games that have been, are being, or should be remade if people PM me some links.... We'll probably just need the name of the game (maybe a link to an original review?) and a link either to it's nearest cousin, its faithful remake, or to a work in progress so that people can track them.

+1 votes for a lot mentioned btw.... Midwinter, Dungeon Keeper, Syndicate, Original railroad tycoon (transport tycoon would rock too but with full 3D or at least much more detailed resolution than current versions). LOVED covert action back in the day, I can't remember it fully, but I remember sinking hours into it.
