Glorious HIPs - 3306

I'm out past the Statue of Liberty Nebula grabbing stars as I go toward the Eta Carina Nebula where I will eventually meet up with the Gam Nine. The last HD star I added to EDSM was HD 80225, not sure where that fits in your spreadsheet. The one before that was HD 100276, I am currently heading for HD 80229 to add to EDSM, only 20 jumps away. I can see the range for the 10*** but not the 8**, unless I am misunderstanding the spreadsheet.

Hi Varonica - the unvisited stars are now sorted by galactic longitude so they're not contiguous ranges of HIP numbers - HD 100276 is on row 112384 so it is in range 42, would you like to have that range?

Well you can but I am not sure where I am going relates to what you have there, I find the system unituitive, I've just been basically bookmarking all the HD numbers in the sphere 2kly around me and traveling to any that aren't in EDSM, so if it's near where I am going it gets scanned.

Ping me here or on Discord (DISC / FleetComm / DM) if you would like access to help with mapping the high and low stars. You don't need a carrier to help with this one, or even a particularly long-range starship. We have identified stars that are likely to be far from the galactic plane; what we need to do now is look them up on the galaxy map to see if they exist in-game, and note their coordinates if they do. Hopefully once we have enough we'll be able to create a map to some really cool places!

I tagged quit a bit of systems under the bubble with the aim of exploring them with my FC. In the end I decided against that trip but made a list of those systems. All of them are HD or HIP and 2 PSR. The zone covers from -2000x, -2000z to 2000x, 2000z and from -2500y to -4200y (IIRC).

Don’t suppose you have coordinates for any of these?

Well you can but I am not sure where I am going relates to what you have there, I find the system unituitive, I've just been basically bookmarking all the HD numbers in the sphere 2kly around me and traveling to any that aren't in EDSM, so if it's near where I am going it gets scanned.

That's absolutely fine - any systems you visit which are named with their HIP, HD, HR or Durchmusterung names that you visit will be picked up when I integrate the fresh data from edsm.

I'm out in Odin's Hold at the moment, heading to SagA*.

I don't suppose there is anything on the list out in this sector - but for my route back to the bubble, maybe you can suggest an area for me to survey?

I copied my slice out to Excel, so I could easily sort the list, etc. I sorted by distance for the time being so that I can get the outer stars first. Already a bunch of them are either in the wrong place (and completely unreachable, by thousands of lightyears) or don't seem to exist in ED.

I visited one that I thought required the carrier. After getting there, I found another star barely in range of a stripped anaconda with a premium boost, after which the density picks up again, so this one has been accessible for a while. I was still first to tag it though. :D (HD 197463). That's all I managed in the first evening since I had a lot of travel to get there from Temple.

If you want to you can still help by checking for the high/low stars - that doesn’t require you to be in the region.

Hello Jackie, Splendid idea!
I think slice 29 looks rather nice and delicious. If I may, and if I made the correct judgement, (in the general direction towards Monocerotis and our FC in Dryau Aec sector, Kepler's Crest, and we just visited HIP 36676 that was indeed in slice #29) I would very much fancy that. 🍰 + ☕

Don’t suppose you have coordinates for any of these?

Unfortunately, no.

I wrote down the list while deleting my tags with the aim of asking Anthor to add them to EDSM (if they are not there already) and hoping to trilaterate their positions since a good amount of them are unreachable even with the FC.

Just finished my run out to HD 80279 to get it into EDSM, it was a bit out of my way, but was it worth it? I'll let you be the judge. First visit and tag, Black Hole as a secondary star, large, ringed landable body with bio;

I have a system HD 80488 at the bottom of the galaxy out near the Eta Carina Nebula that appears it may even be out of reach for a carrier, I can't see any stars closer than around 700ly.

Damn, that would have made a nice day-trip :(

I've found a few that are 10k above / below the plane, so unlikely to be reachable in any way.

Well I won't guarantee there aren't any stars within 500ly, have a check yourself, maybe you can spot something I missed.

For reasons unknown it’s impossible to select anything lower than 10,985LY below the plane; I’m assuming there’s a similar limitation going up. I’ve found one at just shy of -10,800. Maybe there’ll even be a route there...

I had a look, but don't think I even found one as close as you did. I remember when we were looking at getting the Gnosis up to the Lemon Slice one guy spent weeks looking for stars on the way (and failed), yet people got there in the FC betas - must be a knack to it, and I don't have it :)
