Modes Going to solo mode

OK, just about had enough of getting ganked every other day in open now. So to the cmdr flying the FDL at Ceos congrats!!!!!!!!! One less cmdr in open, hope you enjoy the dwindling number of open players in game.

This I dont have a problem with. Personal progression and all that. You arent trying to effect another set of players or group.

You are just there for the credits and Fed Rank.

You could learn from the experiences though, But no biggie. You dont have to if you dont want to.

This is one of the cases I think Private and Solo is just fine.

Lastly, open is far from dwindling, it's actually growing and open players currently outnumber solo players more than 2 to 1. It's not for everyone though, so nothing wrong with choosing solo/pg if you get more enjoyment.

If so then why do we see threads about how those in solo are ruining BGS, PP, CG's.. take your pick... and why do we see threads about restricting things to open or giving Open players incentives and or rewards?

The only people I tend to see trumpeting the idea that Open is empty are the salty PvE'rs.

Most of the times I've seen it has been from Open only people who want Open to have incentives or rewards.

Its more then just piracy though, specifically it is the people that simply blow others up, that is the main problem as I see it. Blowing people up for no reason other then wanting to blow them up and brag about it, that's the group that is the real issue.

Got my gank today in Maia returning from Obsidian to the rescue ship as just in this moment my soon-to-be ganker came out of the pad next to the pad I tried to dock.
I was maybe 500m away from the pad and the CMDR with a certain high-alert status name fired on me asap. My FDS had a HRP and a MRP changed for economy cabins,
and was missing two weapon modules. I was masslocked by the station. I tried to run but the FDS goes only 387 tops and he of course targeted my FSD and then took me out.

No salt, no tears, accepted the rebuy. Maia is anarchy and I was in a FDS with pirate paintjob and pirate ID *lol* so I kinda invited it.

But which advice can you give me in this situation? Honestly, I of course fumbled several things cause I got caught, but alas I have no idea
how to escape this situation?

Sorry for the thread-piracy :D
Well, yeah, course it would be nice if such actions would be punished accordingly, even in anarchy, killing someone that is evacing? yeah anarchy isn't as many think it is total lawlessness, if you attack group a that's trying to evac, group a is going to get annoyed, others in the system might not care, but the group attacked certainly will.
But yeah lets see if the new beta reveals any fixes in this regard.

And I think that's where most of the frustration comes from with those that get attacked like that, there's virtually no real incentive for those attacking to not attack.

There is risk to those attacked but virtually none to those attacking.

Yup, exactly, and yet we hear attackers going 'git gud' when, if anything they are the ones that should do that, and attack targets that can attack back, you know indicate they want an actual fight, but that isn't what they want.

I've said before, those types don't want PVP and don't play PVP.. there is no vs.. they enjoy Domination.

...I suspect it's too many Aussies, on laptops, in the Outback, using satellite phones plugged into Eucalyptus trees, sending signals via kookaburra net. 10 out of 9 things there are poisonous, makes sense the internet would be too ;-)

I mean, they do call it "The Lucky Country"... lucky if something doesn't bite ya and ya don't die from it ;-)

You exaggerate the danger, my friend. On the other hand, your description of our telecommunications infrastructure is eerily accurate.

What could you have done differently that would have changed your situation?
Good question. I have this routine, it's also available in flow chart form, but I will just describe it for now.

When interdicted, I fight the interdiction. If on the other side there's a pirate, he at least won't have to worry about me trying to high wake out of there, pillocks can think whatever the hell they want to. So I'm looking to relax the attacker. I will also keep chattering on comms to show I'm not in my 15 sec countdown.

The next part is key, and depends on either of 2 things happening.
1. Comms. There is comms. This is a pilot I can interact with. Lets find out what's what, and where this is going. This is interesting gameplay.
2. Pew pew pew. This is a pilot with the creativity of an onion. Best to waste as little time possible on this one. Action to take can be:
- Make/get coffee. There's some coffee on the go in my house 9 out of 10 times, if not this situation has to be remedied.
- Roll a cigarette. I roll my owns, so I make use of the break provided.
- When already in possession of both coffee and cigarette, I have reached maximum creaminess, so I will send some banter over comms. Who knows, perhaps there still are some braincells left in the onion that are sparked by receiving unexpected information.

I could use feedback on this. Is there any way to improve it? I'm thinking introducing cookies in the coffee routine. Chocolate chipped of course.

Morning everyone,

Since we are allready here... there is a point some of the pro-open folks seems kinda to ignore (while having some good arguments though, no offence guys):
There are also people who dont have a interest in things like "git gud" or PvP at all.

I can only speak for myself here, but for me the cons just outweight the pros when it comes to Open.

To be honest i would love it to get "pirated" here and there but come on, how often did this realy happen in comparsion to people just want to blow you up for personal pleasure? (what also dont happen as much as some people want to make believe)
Even then im quite sure i could get away in most cases, but for me Elite:*slightly*Dangerous doesnt mean Elite:Run-Away either.
It just cost me time i refuse to invest just because some Cmdrs are looking for easy prey lulz.

What brings me to my next point, fighting back aka PvP...
I totally appreciate the effort and time some of the more combat orientated Cmdrs are willing to give/share and im absolutely fine with the fact that i have to learn something before being good at it, its just common sense.

The issue i have here, alike with the good ol "git gud" phrase, is that it not just involve good Pilot skills but also a stupid amount of rngeenering and a ship that is more or less useless at anything else than pewpew.
And im not even started with the fact that most of the Cmdrs you would have "unpleasant" encounters with are not exactly looking for a fair fight and tend to fly in Wings anyway.
(again no generalization, i know there are also a good amount of folks wanting exactly this, i just wouldnt count them as "unpleasant" encounters ;) )

Another thing is more a minor personal issue, but Chat responses like "Ohseven ya mommy..." and stuff like this are something i exclusively had in Open and are something i can totally fine do without, especially considering i have to deal with this on a daily basis at work (maybe i just should introduce myself as their future social worker :p)

In the end i realy hope that at least some of the mechanic-wise issues get fixed (i know, wont happen) and want to point out that its not my intention to discourage anyone from using any gamemode, just decide what would suit your playstyle the best and make sure to know what you get into (means: STOP CRYING ABOUT GETTING BLOWN UP IN OPEN ! *clear exploits/station ramming etc are a different story)

PS: And yes, i would love to have a official PVE Mode :x[smile]

Yup! I lived there for six months and I'm pretty sure anything that moves can kill you. Don't know how I got out alive.

Funny enough trying to do the Sydney marathon was the only injury I suffered and my knee has never recovered to this day.

Please tell us it wasn't an arrow. Anything but an arrow. I couldn't handle another "I use to be a marathon runner, until I took an arrow to the knee." tale.

I indentify with almost all of this.

I think the problem with the whole open/solo/PG debate is that:
(1) It's only the "Open" side which have any problem with the current setup.
(2) When they tell me to play in Open, they give me their reasons, not mine.

I understand that some players think the unpredictability of Open is more fun. I understand why some don't want Solo or PG to exist so they have more targets. They are eloquent about all those reasons...

But what they never do is try to convince me. I've never seen, "If you play in Open your game experience will be better because X". To do that, they would have to make the effort to understand the type of play I enjoy.

(The nearest I've seen is along the lines, "If you play in Open you might be unexpectedly blown up and the very possibility will feel exciting". It's nice of players to be concerned that I might be bored in PG and offer to blow up my ship to improve things, but so far I'm not that bored).

Translation: "Please come to Open so I can hit you with my car and it will make the game better for everyone!"

Op, just find a player group who allows you to play the way you want. There are plenty of groups who use private groups and/or play in open with protection wings. Also, they can teach you how to escape the ever present ganker. This game is much more fun when playing with other commanders. Don't allow gankers to force you into solo. Just find like minded commanders out there to fly with. Ignore the responses from the immature. You spent your money on this game to enjoy it. Play the way you want to play, but there is help out there if you need it.

Good luck commander o7

Funny thing, I don't get excited at the possibility of being unexpectedly blown up :D or using Sylveria's analogy .. I don't get particularly excited at the thought of being unexpectedly hit by a car when crossing the street.
