Modes Going to solo mode

As others have said, try Mobius if you like interaction but not being ganked. They're a friendly bunch and I see people most days if in a popular area or doing CGs. Not everyone has the time or inclination to 'get gud' as some say, or rinse and repeat engineers. Just switch between modes to suit what you're doing on any particular day or play session - solo, groups and open all have a place and depending on how you feel and how rich your are at that stage choose appropriately.

Got my gank today in Maia returning from Obsidian to the rescue ship as just in this moment my soon-to-be ganker came out of the pad next to the pad I tried to dock.
I was maybe 500m away from the pad and the CMDR with a certain high-alert status name fired on me asap. My FDS had a HRP and a MRP changed for economy cabins,
and was missing two weapon modules. I was masslocked by the station. I tried to run but the FDS goes only 387 tops and he of course targeted my FSD and then took me out.

No salt, no tears, accepted the rebuy. Maia is anarchy and I was in a FDS with pirate paintjob and pirate ID *lol* so I kinda invited it.

But which advice can you give me in this situation? Honestly, I of course fumbled several things cause I got caught, but alas I have no idea
how to escape this situation?

Sorry for the thread-piracy :D

Little to none. If someone doesn't care about their rebuy, there is little you can do. And from what I know, the rescue ships are woefully unsecure.

I haven't been to the rescue in Maia, so you may want to ask this question in the PvP subform, and see what those folks can come up with.

Rep for taking it manly

Nothing to ad, proceed!

All is well.

He wouldn't have had a go at you, if he faced some opposition. But he knew, you where an easy pick.
Simpls.

Friends, escorts, safety in numbers. Which you hadn't had in time there. Would have saved you?

Open is Liberty, Destruction is stupid, simple.
And peace is not.

cheers mate, wish you better luck next time.

One more voice for Mobius here.[up]

The community there seems to be free of the worst jerks and on the rare occasions when I, as a lone explorer, actually met some other Commanders, I was usually greeted with at least an "o7" by complete strangers. Try one of the Mobius provate groups, therte is an actual ingame minor faction and the admins regularly publish guidelines on what is needed to support the faction, membership is not required.

It is refreshing to have a common goal that does not include PvP at all.

Sadly I was flying a dolphin, the last ganker was flying FDL so not much I could do.

There's lots you could do. Do what I didn't do in this video, and you'll have an easier time getting away:

OK, just about had enough of getting ganked every other day in open now. So to the cmdr flying the FDL at Ceos congrats!!!!!!!!! One less cmdr in open, hope you enjoy the dwindling number of open players in game.

I'm not questioning your experience in the game. You've got me by a year...

I've noted some oddities my nearly 2 years of playing E: D. In fact, just last week I had brought my Corvette to Lei Cheung for a few additional rolls on my shields. When I arrived, every large pad was occupied. Every docked player, was sitting on the surface, not inside the base. If a wing of griefers had shown up instead of me, every one of the docked players would have been at the buy back screen. That's just **** poor SA. Not to mention, it's downright careless and foolhardy. Had they been KO'd, they would have deserved it, IMHO. Now, maybe that's not nice of me to say, but at least I'd be the first one to own my actions.

I've been ganked 3X. Each and every time, I've looked at what I could have done differently. I ALWAYS find at least one thing that I could have done, that would have changed the outcome. It's usually not fight better, git gud, or run away either. Usually it's some tactical blunder or planning ahead that gets me in trouble. I think that's what some people fail to see when they start doing something. It may seem innocuous at first but then becomes an unexpected catastrophe. Step up your strategy a bit. Think outside the box and take responsibility for your actions.

What could you have done differently that would have changed your situation?

One link is enough

https://forums.frontier.co.uk/forumdisplay.php/223-Modes-of-Elite

Well, i hope you take into account the number of pages per thread.

I would certainly have to take the number of pages into account, as in that entire subforum there is exactly one (next time please provide the direct link rather than the whole subforum :/) that could pass for a complaint about a perceived lack of players in Open.

Thanks for taking the time to post the link!

I wasn't going to bother since the request was too ridiculous to take seriously.

I've been around for at least as long as you have, I check DD every day and I do not recall being bothered regularly by the threads you claim are an issue. In fact it has taken somebody else to dig up one thread from one of the forum's graveyards from three months ago. With that in mind I'm not sure what was ridiculous with my pointing out the hyperbole in your post.

Frankly, you'd have an easier time simply not replying and claiming you had forgotten about or lost interest in this thread.

I also don't appreciate lazy people putting the onus on me to make up for their own ignorance on a topic.

You implied that there exists a significant number of threads complaining about the lack of players in Open which you "have to deal with". I'm afraid that the onus is indeed on you. Also it still is.

Or to attempt to insinuate that without such a link, the complaints I was referring to did not exist in the numbers they actually do.

You know what, I'll lower the bar. I wont ask for links if you can with a straight face quote those numbers you're refering to.

No doubt, someone who prey's on the weak and noobish is pathetic, insecure, and too scared to actually attack a real threat. But at the same time, I don't think running to solo is the right answer. If you were bullied in school, are you going to drop out? No. You learn to deal with the threat. You adapt and overcome. Don't let these bullies scare you out of open. Learn how to spot danger, and know ahead of time how you will react/evade. Learn to beat an interdiction. I'm not strong at combat, frankly, I think I suck, so because of that, I avoid would be attackers by beating interdictions or evasive maneuvers. I've only been killed once by another player and that was a situation where I chose to submit to an interdiction because I wanted to fight an FDL. Unfortunately for me, I forgot I was loaded up with Xeno weapons. I had to laugh at my stupidity.

Totally hear you!

It's just like everything in this world: 1% of people can't have fun without making others miserable.

But the solution IS just to make them irrelevant.

Turn off the news, block calls from telemarketers, un-follow haters on social media, and stop being cannon fodder in Elite by playing in Solo or PG.

And like others have posted, over at ElitePvE.com you can sign-up for the Mobius private group and play with thousands of non-gankers!

Yeah, it's sad all the real "news" programs on TV have been replaced with "opinion" shows, and there's no easy way to stop Windows 10 from downloading updates, and that there's no PvE only open option in Elite.

But thankfully we have an off switch for the TV, can downgrade our PCs to Windows 7, and we have Mobius PG for Elite Dangerous!

Fly Happy CMDR!
