I was just joking, oft repeated US president joke that "Don't they speak Latin in Latin America?". But not quite, Linnunrata means Milky Way in Finnish, so...
Yeah, I suppose it was somewhat of a hyperbole, just an anecdotal tendency I've been observing.I mean in-game though. I don't think the names give it away as easily. At least not the English ones.
How would it? I don't go to open.
Well, even so I have a different way to make friends, I dont shoot at those!I play using unarmed buckyball racers and unarmed traders, make loads of friends and hardly ever get shot at by any of them.
I don't find it exciting to lose a sizeable portion of a play session progress to some grind master with a meta ship. I find it to be a waste of time. The risk of actually getting killed and losing my ship is part of what makes the game exciting. Even then, getting destroyed isn't nearly as harsh as it is in something like Eve for instance. Space is dangerous and is all the better because of it.
Oops!Well, even so I have a different way to make friends, I dont shoot at those!
Usually, in a non mortal fight, the only winner is the one which looses, he had the chance to learn something, the winner didn't.I don't find it exciting to lose a sizeable portion of a play session progress to some grind master with a meta ship. I find it to be a waste of time.
If all you care about is hard grinding, why bother with open at all? It's not like you're there for interaction.I don't find it exciting to lose a sizeable portion of a play session progress to some grind master with a meta ship. I find it to be a waste of time.
Combat is not the only interaction that is possible in Open. Met many excellent CMDRs in Open who were up for a chat or cooperative play.If all you care about is hard grinding, why bother with open at all? It's not like you're there for interaction.
There is no point in learning the same lesson over and over again.Usually, in a non mortal fight, the only winner is the one which looses, he had the chance to learn something, the winner didn't.
He doesn't need to and is free to kick his chance, but hey, he can!
I tell you a secret: I don't. It's the easiest solution. If all you care about is hard grinding, why bother with open at all? It's not like you're there for interaction.
You'd be surprisedI mean in-game though. I don't think the names give it away as easily. At least not the English ones.
Pretty much - or assess risks that you are willing to take when going to Open. I'm okay with any of my ships getting destroyed, but I'm not going to stake three weeks of exploration data or three hours of mining. The trick to being ungriefable is only go into Open when you don't care whether your ship gets destroyed.
I guess ship-naming might have contributed to easier localisation of players? You'd be surprised
Pretty much, not to mention recon data from Inara or google.I guess ship-naming might have contributed to easier localisation of players?
Ship naming, CMDR names, language spoken. Plenty of hints to go by.I guess ship-naming might have contributed to easier localisation of players?

Heck, I wish griefers and gankers would extend their interaction beyond pew pew pew. When I'm in Open and get interdicted by one of these, I always try comms, never get a response, so just go for a cup of coffee while they are enjoying the PvP challenge of shooting a stationary T-6.
edit: The trick to being ungriefable is only go into Open when you don't care whether your ship gets destroyed.
(Though I'm a bit opposed of using griefing as a synonym of ganking).
