how will space legs handle deaths

No idea how they will handle it, but i really hope they ditch the whole holo me and telepresence rubbish and just let us use handwavium.

And whatever they do, not the "Death of a Spaceman" rubbish CIG are planning on doing in SC.

Worst case scenario, let us all have clones or something, like in the Paranoia RPG.

After landing your ship on the Thargoid world you take the SRV closer to the unknown geological feature. As you get closer you find your suspicions are correct and this is indeed a Thargoid structure. Unfortunately, you also realise that you have to go inside on foot.

After creeping through a corridor you find what passes for one of the alien computers and you start trying to download whatever scraps of data you can to find weaknesses in their biology, ships, tactics, anything.

Anything would do right now, just something to understand them better.

Suddenly you realise you've been spotted. Two soldier Thargoids have you cornered. They look over at the age rating of the game and tell you to stop being such a naughty scamp and be on your way. Next thing you know you've been teleported back to your ship's pilot seat.

Since there has been no announcements for anything beyond some mythical update at the end of 2020, I just love how the players have so much imagination that they actually make up an entire game within their heads. No wonder why Fdev don't have to put out any more updates.

So if space legs is going to bring base building, first person shooting and theft of ships how many credits is it going to cost me to re spawn in the game when someone shoots me in the head and steals my ship.
Screen goes black, you'll see a quote from Jaden Smith appear on screen, and you'll reappear at the last station you docked at.

If first person shooting is a large part of the 2020 update that will be the end of the road for me. The last thing I want is to turn Elite into another stupid gore-fest of an FPS game. There are many others to choose from if that is what I wanted. I am actually extremely worried that this is going to be a large part of the focus of the 2020 update and that this will end my time with Elite Dangerous because I don't like ultra-violent games.

Firstly, I expect and FPS activity to be a bit more nuanced in ED that your typical shooter, with the FP more focused on exploration, repair and EVA stuff (but don't know, obviously)

Secondly, I expect this will be paid for content, and therefore optional.

I'd say it'll handle death like Dark Souls.
Except you lose what materials you've gathered on the mission unless you can make it alive back to where you last died.
It's as good a guess as any.

If it's 'i' word bothering lore stuff: it's a game; we've been dying and respawning in games since forever. Even this one.

Is there a reason half the thread are posts that are describing "Battlefield Elite: Dangerous"?

Seems more likely that if spacewalk makes it into the core gameplay mechanics, it would be used for resource gathering, data retrieval, research or exploration and that any added elements (like combat) would be like what we see in the SRV-sections, extremely simplified barebone mechanics.

No, no, no! Space legs means only one thing...

Non stop, twitch paced FRAGFEST!!!!

Whether you want it or not. I heard they are going to make you launch the game by starting on a landing pad and forcing you to run to your ship while other player spawn around your ship with their only intent being to kill you before you reach your ship. Then when you get on your ship, it will be full of other players trying to kill you. You better work on your twitch skills now because there will be a player spawned around every corner. And IF you get through all of that, you’ll be blown up right after leaving the station by gankers! I mean, obviously that’s what it will be like... I mean what else could you do in FPS mode??? There is absolutely NOTHING ELSE you can do beside shoot people and be shot at right???

/s

I hope everyone that doesn’t want first person mode leaves the game. Seriously, if these people got their way, this game would never advance.

Just wait for the on-foot gankers that are sure to come in this game. And the ship thieves who will just take off, and then self-destruct, or abandon it at the mail-slot for schnitz and giggles. They're all coming to a theater near you. :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

And if weapons are disallowed in stations or settlements, then wait for the door blockers.
ROFLMAO.

You are stumbling in the darkness, the ground in front of you illuminated only by the blue-white light of your head-mounted lamp. The sounds in your oxygen mask indicate you are in your last seconds of life.

You fall to your knees as your vision turns to grey, then to red, the gurgling sound in your lungs telling you it is time to die. You close your eyes and .....

.... open them in Rescue Dock 7, gazing up from your hospital bed at a four-eyed nurse-being who makes Felicty Farseer look like a beauty pageant winner. You scream loudly and press <ESCAPE> to log out.

Your computer displays the message There is no escape, Commander

But do I see the rebuy screen after that. and that vision of death would be cool and scary as hell

Yeah but if we panic now, it could save time for any real panic later by already having clearly established arm-flailing routines and sufficient pitchforks and torches.
It's the tradition around here - get a few vague indications of what might happen, extrapolate wildly, panic. Then be overall happy with the outcome when it ships (and be annoyed about something that hardly anyone noticed beforehand). Some people like the excitement 🤷‍♀️

When your body explodes, your head detaches and warps to another fresh body.

That, or we were all AI under the control of the Pilots Federation all along and death has no meaning.

There are many ways to do first person gameplay. If (big if) it is coming in 2020 it does not necessarily mean it will be a shooter gore fest. Remember that, most likely, FDEV needs to ensure integration with VR. Based on the first person experiences there are for VR out there at the moment the result will probably be a somewhat more deliberate and slow gameplay (including zero gravity mechanics) than, say, PS2.
