I almost feel bad for Frontier

And yet, I can't fully bring myself to feel bad for Frontier. It seems they are just totally out-of-touch with their customers and player base.

This is what happens when you stray from the formula. This is what happens when you don't focus on doing one thing really well.

I have said this a million times before, but this is precisely why I don't like fleet carriers and I have no interest in having space legs. I play Elite because I enjoy flying spaceships, and this game is, without a shadow of a doubt, the best space flight and combat simulation experience I have ever had. Fleet carriers and space legs add nothing at all to this experience. They are part of a "second life simulator" end vision for this game, but that end vision doesn't make sense.

Fleet carriers are now the basis of that assertion for me.

I'm the silent majority. No, I AM the silent majority. No, I and the SILENT MAJORITY!
NO....I am the silent majority...and so is my wife! (Sorry, couldn't resist :D)

I was all up for Fleet Carriers...until the reveal stream last week and within 20mins I was really disheartened.
Part of me, the optimist part of me, still thinks they made the cost and upkeep so ridiculous so that after beta they can say "Well, we listened, FCs now 2b to buy, 1m a week...and FCs no longer get decommissioned and instead services just close if you don't pay"...the go in high then come down to please people...common tactic.

Somehow it reminds me of Windows Phone 7 when it 1st released....WITHOUT any cut and paste functionality (That they had in Windows CE prior to Phone 7!!!!!!!!!)...then 1 year...yes 1 WHOLE YEAR later, MS came out and said "Look we listened to you all...we've implemented cut and paste".

Bought one on the beta, took a photo, will keep the photo and ditch the FC and I very much doubt I'll ever find a use for a FC in the live galaxy. It's too expensive to maintain and very unlikely to ever make money from the player community.

I differ with you in that I'm looking forward to space legs (though with VR I'm less "needing" of them). The problem here is that the people who DO want the things Frontier provides are being let down by the very thing they asked for.

But to your point, I would have much rather Frontier finished the space side of their game (atmospheric planets, comets, proper active volcanoes, list infinitium) before adding all this other stuff. But if they are going to add "other stuff", at least get it right.

I'm just curious as to why they took 2 years to release this... Graphics and animations were mostly recycled and not much new stuff. Of course new UI elements, as well as changes to the current UI such as system map took some dev time. But I'm sure the most complex part was the networking part and making carriers persistent. But 2 years+ for that?

Yeah, I also feel bad for them :-/

As a noob having paid subs to a publisher for years it's refreshing to play a game that's free once purchased.
And yet the marketing ploys to increase the pool of players remains the same.
Daily grind I don't think so. Been there done that. It's bolox.
Frontier need to stop listening to marketing and start listening to us. Before it's too late and elite dies.
I love this game. Truly. As I'm sure alot of you do. Frontier have took a huge dump on their player base.
Revenue rules.
Gameplay suffers.
Same old story.
So fix carriers fix bugs fix everything.... and see the posts all positive and mostly happy. What a nice day that would be

Agreed, especially if they try to do a FPS next year.

I would have been happy with complete damage models on all the ships, some new ships and srvs, ship interiors, limited station interiors (I wanna take the car into the station) and possibility to do maintenance on ship and also minor modifications on the ship.

Well I guess without a subscription they could focus on making money either by selling new copies or by selling ARX. Could explain why flashy updates like FC look awesome at first glance, maybe to attract new customers, as probably will the New Era, but in reality are just shallow. They don't gain that much by catering to established players, as I'm not sure if ARX sales are more lucrative then full game sales.

To put all that time, energy, and enthusiasm into a project to just watch it bomb - I know I would be disheartened if this were the response to a project I invested time in.

Yeah, they put all that time, energy, and enthusiasm into a project.... Just that project is called F1 Simulator(?)... or is it Jurassic Park... Or is it Planet Coaster... Or...
Whatever it is, it isn't ED... 500 devs 3 years. Puppy's Privates this game's development isn't.

Stupid idiots like me paid into this game at Alpha and again at Beta with the promise of LEP DLC (plus a Horizons cut price extra commander)... I could have bought a half decent Star Citizen ship for that price! LOL.

This is the last game I will ever pay more than the actual regular price for.

Once fooled, shame on you. Twice fooled, shame on me.

I will never again buy into prepurchase.

At least with Star Citizen, I knew I was buying a (crack)pipe dream.

With Star Citizen, I never thought they would actually be able to deliver all that they (over)promised. But I assumed Braben (OBE) was more pragmatic and would actually deliver most of what he promised in the original discussions...

As it turned out, place holders have become set in concrete for the better part of a decade.
