I don't know what to do anymore...

Today I joined the forum, hoping to make some future contribution to the community and build myself as a player..
Today I was most upbeat as I had almost finished a passenger mission to Colonia. Now, I had the idea to take a few passengers out there, so I loaded my asp explorer with 3 cabins and 3 missions to Colonia. Should net me about 50 to 60 mil after it's all said and done. I know, not much, but I'm a noob and I wanted to explore the unknown. So I head out about 2 weeks ago and start heading toward Colonia. It was my first trip out there so I had forgotten to bring AMU to fix my shift drive when It was damaged from so many neutron jets. I made it about 1/3 the way before my fsd started acting up and a was forced to stop using neutrons. I managed to make it to Colonia, but on my way to repair my ship I was scanned and two of my passengers left, failing 2 of 3 missions had picked up. Frustrated but still determined I pressed onward and started to head back toward sol, where I picked the passenger missions up. I figured, oh well, happens and thought I could make up the lost cash in data from scanned planets and such as I headed home. I spent a good 48hrs of game play scanning planets and stars and all sort of stuff as I made my way from Colonia to sol...and when I just get back to sol and just about to land I get interdicted and blown up. All that time and energy spent data farming and going way out to Colonia with passengers was equal to nothing as soon as I got back to sol. I'm a man and I can take a punch or two, but what this game just did to me made me feel like everything I had spent hours working towards meant nothing. It broke my heart. This isn't this first time this has happened to me but it sure as hell was the most painful. I am completely torn.

Oh my god. What a terrible bad luck. All I can offer is to wing up with you and help you to make some credits. Or I can invite you to my second commander who is actually southeast of the core. I can coordinate my flight plan in a way that you can be my crewmember the whole trip. I plan to fly towards Beagle Point east of the core.
I can offer you access to the ATAG teamspeak server to be as close as you can get.

I salute you

Thanks but nothing will bring back the hours I spent gathering data, all those star systems the credits or the time...all gone. I'm so heartbroken that this happened that I don't know if anything is worth while in the game anymore.

Experience is the best teacher but sometimes it isn't the most fun way to learn.

Well... you've been knocked off your horse.

What to do? You know what to do.

well, there is no thrill if there is no risk. you tried but had bad luck.

if you are in an explorer ship you are always at risk in inhabited zones, be very wary of that at all times, and learn to escape first, before attempting big endeavours. it's not really that difficult, actually (basically submit and highwake), you should be able to escape every single time from npc, and from most players with a bit of practice. you can find a lot of suggestions about that on the forum, or just ask here.

chin up, cmdr!

I don't believe robbing you from the thing you've earned in a certain amount of time is learn by experience, it's just a game mechanic

This kind of antics makes me want to be the terrorist group of elite

Don't get bitter. Get better.

Elite dangerous is like that some days.

Hell I just got my Conda blown up again because I tried to turn and fight after having my shield's shredded. Thought I had a chance since the Police arrived and started chewing up the other one.

Started at a disadvantage and my shields dropped first. Then the missiles started coming in and I forgot to invest in point defense.

Now I'm 5 mill in debt for a loan to cover the ship and after moving to my Viper I'm at 990 credits to my name.

Some days, when it rains, it pours.

Welp. Time to take the ole Snakebite out and start earning back that money.

Though it's late so I'll do it tomorrow. Take some time to mourn what happened.

When the game sucker punches you, you can ether sit in the dirt and cry or stand up, dust yourself off, compliment it on it's form, and then punch it right back in the face.

I tend to prefer the latter.

if you mean this, you are just not being fair. you do know that your explo data is volatile and will be lost on destruction. then don't risk it too much or unnecessarily. nobody robbed you of anything, you didn't put it in good enough care and lost it. it's on you, really. from what you tell it's obvious you were not prepared for such a long journey. learn. people here are just willing to help and trying to encourage you to move on and try again.

Greetings,

So sorry for your loss. The problem is possibly that you took on a major multi-million credit passenger mission without the experience in more local runs with passengers who don't like to be scanned, being attacked if you have a criminal passenger onboard, upon return picking a high security clean system with a short station run just before the bubble to turn in those explorer missions. ED is all about making a mistake then paying for it big time. Then again maybe you are very experienced but just had a bad day.

A story. Once upon a time Frontier took millions of credits away from players they thought were using an exploit. They hit me, I emotionally reacted hitting a hard plaster wall (it doesn't give) breaking bones in my hand. A month later FD realized I was a good guy and gave them back. Years later I still don't have full function with that hand. I made an emotional stupid mistake. Anyway I hope you feel a little better knowing there are worse things in life than losing some exploration data. You will move on then help the next player who makes the same mistakes. :)

Meanwhile there are A LOT of great players on the Forum who are there to help and be there for other players...like me! We don't post much in negative threads while many others do. Don't let the abundance of negative posts decide your opinions. They are such a very small part of the ED universe.

Best Regards

That sucks. Sorry for your luck. If it's any consolation, we've had Cmdrs lose multiple Months of explo data. You'll eventually get over it and (hopefully) be able to laugh about it. BTW, I usually stop at one of the first systems I come to and sell the data. I'm paranoid.:D

Deep-space travel can be highly rewarding, but the risks are extremely high too. No other profession in the game can force you to lose weeks worth of effort all at once. I've lost an unknown amount of exploration data to an interdiction after my first major exploration trip, so know a little of the pain of that magnitude of loss.

Personally, I'm an explorer and I know I could never do one of those to-Colonia-and-back-again passenger missions, or one of those deliver-cargo-to-Colonia CGs. I've been to Colonia, twice, and both times it took me several months. I prefer charting my own course, stopping and detouring when and where I want, and not having to worry about deadlines, mission objectives and keeping a fussy passenger happy. But, that's just me.

If you do decide to go back out there, here are some tips.

- Take an AMFU or two. But you've already learned this one.

- Passengers generally don't like it when you get damaged, and neutron-boosting damages your ship, so you might want to consider avoiding the neutron stars while they're onboard. If you want to hurry, stock up on high-grade jumponium mats beforehand. Jumponium boosts don't damage your ship.

- Fly in Solo when in the Bubble. You didn't say whether you were in Solo or Open, or whether your nemesis was human or NPC. But from personal experience, getting interdicted in Sol is rare, unless you've been unlucky enough for a mission-spawned NPC to show up. Sol is, however, a system I'd expect to find player-killers. If flying Solo isn't your cup of tea, then get social and wing up with some protectors to help you arrive safely - I've heard good things about Iridium Wing, for example; a player group dedicated to providing homecoming explorers an armed escort.

- Scans from Authority ships near stations are much less probable if you're Allied with the controlling faction. So, if you were planning another Colonia passenger run in future, get yourself Allied with the Sol factions, then do a "dry run" out to Colonia first without passengers, so you can get yourself Allied with Jaques and the other Colonia factions. Selling one page of exploration data is usually enough to get you Allied (especially if you've stopped to scan any ELWs, ammonia worlds or terraformables while enroute), so explore your way out to Colonia (taking your time if you have to), then sell the data at Colonia an at the waystations to and from, to get yourself Allied. Now, when you go back out to Colonia with passengers, you will be Allied with everybody and should be much less likely to be scanned.

Wise words Robin of Spiritwood

I usually drop my Data partially on the way home for example at the asteroid base in the lagoon nebula. And then I enter the bubble from Sothis. Selling you data there is very useful, because you gain federation rank(s). Staying in mobius or solo helps too.
I hope you can get over it, OP :)
