You cannot change other people, but you can change yourself.
Utopias do not exist.... virtual Utopias do not exist either.
Whether or not one gets a rebuy due to a station, npc or an outlaw, the credit price and time loss are still the same. Think of the ganker/griefer Commander as simply another form of very deadly NPC, e.g. Thargoid Hydra but uglier. It is a harsh reality of life that in any human grouping, virtual or not, there will ALWAYS be those who prey on other humans. Requiring or asking any human stranger to respect another human stranger simply out of the goodness of her heart, is unfortunately, naive. Especially in the case of a video game, it is far more empowering to teach yourself to be emotionally and psychologically immune to gankers and griefers. Since credits are easy now, I truly don't care if I get blown up. If I get repeatedly get interdicted, I go to Solo. But I always go back to Open Mode because I am continually meeting really wonderful people, organically. I have even met some really interesting unlawfuls who have gleefully blown me up.
Since I started to not care about dying in game, this game has become so much more fun.
I have also learned that the risk of being in Open is negligible compared to the often interesting and mostly joyful encounters I have had with random Commanders.
The friendships I have made in Open are priceless compared to a rebuy.
