I’d like more commanders in the Open

For the record, I don't agree with combat logging either. And per my earlier position, if that was the only interaction I had on which to base a judgement, I'd judge them accordingly. No issues from me there. My point stands - don't act like a jerk if you don't want to be judged as one.
Thank goodness we have ED. It sucks in thousands of people who would otherwise be busy in RL engaged in the worst activities in the world. All-round meglomaniacs, drug dealers, cop murderers, murdering cops, pirates, slave traders, pirates who eat slaves (see: Kumoburger) and worst of all: tourists. shudders It's good that the chinese government has invested in Fdev (as a purely social charitable gesture, nothing insiduous to see here) but why havent all governments invested in ED on the same basis? Think of the lives saved and misery averted! (except on the forums)

I think the big problem is solo play. Because it's there, most of us who aren't that good at combat decided that instead if getting good at it, we'd just go somewhere where other plsyers don't exist and just fight aganst AI.

I'll admit that I've been attacked without provication by people in much more powerful ships than mine, and I even had one guy track me down on live stream just to kill me. But none of this encouraged me to try and get better at the game, because I'm 46 now and really can't be bothered with competitive gaming, so I play exclusively on solo or Mobius.

Not ideal because I enjoyed open, but I don't have any desire to spend time trying to become some sort if ace combat pilot... if I was a kid again, maybe up to mid/late 20's, but these days I just want to chill and have as little stress as possible while gaming.

I do the same, but don't see the problem.

Whether Solo is a problem or a feature rather depends on ones preference, or lack thereof, for playing among other players.

You are more than free to play on Mobious (I hang around there occasionally, though the PS4 version is rather empty) or in Solo, but I just want to point out one thing. You don't have to be a competent fighter to play in open. You merely need to be adequately equipped to survive and get the hell out if someone wants to shoot you and you're not willing to fight back.

I think I got interdicted by other players like 2 or 3 times at most and every single time it was in Shinrarta. The only time I actually almost died is when I went there in my paper explorer, which I don't do anymore xD.

I'll turn 43 this summer and I have no problems competing in open.
(Elite isn't that dependend on ultra-quick reflexes, nothing a good KB+M and a pip macro can't solve 😜)
I jest I jest, if you're comfortable stay in Mobius, but open isn't the hellhole some tell about.
Open IS a mode where your decisions have consequences though.
Jump to Deciat in a 3D shielded Asp, and even lightning reflexes won't save you most of the time.
Put some thought into your build and what you do, and survival is not a problem.

I think fdev solution is the solution in the OP, to wing up and do it that way. Open is for people to wing up and gank, for people to wing up and run the gank to protect each other and for people to wing up and actively anti-gank, amogst other things.

Unfortunately, being Open, they rarely happen except by appointment as most people are too busy running or dropping out of SC to wake out to stop and say hello these days.

I am surprised more anti-gank don't hang round Deciat providing escorts but I don't do it so cant blame anybody else, I mean Ill offer if Im there but not going there specifically.

Unfortunately best advice is probably to go to Deciat in Solo/PG at least the first time if its gonna bother you as the risk/reward at that stage just isn't worth it.

& I'd like to kiss Beyoncé in the tradesmens' entrance (at my local Travis Perkins builders' merchants...why, what did you think I meant?). But in life..."You caynt always get what you want!"

Solo mode and NPCs are not to be underestimated when it comes to training to be a Pvper. First, although I play mostly in Open, for the most part I am left alone. I might as well be in Solo. Second, it is absolutely necessary that one's aim be nearly flawless with NPCs before one can reach the top tier ranks of PvP. It is no easy feat to consistently hit elite npc viper3s with slow plasma accelerators. I assure you that many PvPers have spent hours training in CZs. In addition, one of the most difficult techniques in PvP is flying at very high speed Completely Within a dense asteroid field in total FA off (no straight lining) without crashing into rocks. Rocks are just as deadly in Solo as in Open.

Although I am a Pvper, I am mostly competitive with myself and not other PvPers. I use my fights with humans as a gauge to measure improvement or lack thereof on my part. I am a weird Pvper because I really don't care about "winning". A win in a cheese build is utterly meaningless to me. I fight a great human pilot to assess what I need improvement on. If it is possible, I practice using NPCs. Of course, that is not always feasible since humans are very different.

And I am 54 and getting older.
And slowly getting better at PvP, too!

:)

He saying that instead of the game encouraging you to get better at it, like a difficult level on some other game that you can’t progress beyond unless you do so, the game just offers an easy out. He’s saying he doesn’t have the patience so he takes the easy out.

yes, we know lots of you like the easy out. Terrific. That’s his point though.

55 year old pirate here: it really isn't difficult to avoid gankers in open, just learn the standard submit, turn, boost away while chaffing routine. Even in my DBX I successfully avoid them, most gankers aren't that good. I have still been killed of course, but I think a total of 3 times in about 1500 hours.

Playing a different way doesn't have to be a value judgement and you don't have to feel guilty about the choices you make in the game. Not getting blown up while you get on with the things you really enjoy is just blazing your own trail. You're not compelled to help someone else blaze theirs.

I agree, you should be able to blaze your own trail and be able to take actions to avoid being blown up. Well what do ya know? You can! There’s guides on it for crying out loud. But if you can win the mini game, submit, turn, boost, chaff, and high wake. Don’t forget to not fly in a perfectly brain dead straight line.

I'm playing in Solo because I'm exploiting a broken game mechanic to earn the multiple billions required to be able to access the newest content release and speed is of the essence before its patched out.

(Which could be any day)

I've spent five years in Open mostly and have earned more in the last three days than in those five years.

Solo plus exploits equal broken game.

Draw your own conclusion.

This is all true, but I don't think you're getting the full meaning of "not interested in combat". I'm not bad at combat and I know about the escape methods, but I can't be bothered with that kind of interruption to my gameplay. I just don't want to put in all that effort to entertain someone else.

But all this has be said many times before. :)

Define exploit in this context, please.
