Important Information From Operation IDA

Greetings CMDRs we at the AXI ain't stopping our operation, although it is true we need to reallocate all our efforts to at least beat the timer this week
The image above doesn't speak on behalf of the AXI overseers and was more in the likes of a meme. Apologies for any potential misunderstanding.

Good to hear it.

It requires a lot of effort just to save one system, this war requires a lots of systems to be saved. With our current technology in the game, the bubble is going to burn, so I say just let it burn until we get the means to save it.

I assume the narrative is to make it seem hopeless for while until something happens and we get the means turn the tide against the Thargoids.

This issue is simple, there's about to be 10 maelstroms. There will be hundreds and hundreds of systems that need to be retaken.

We were progressing at 1 system per two weeks.

Uh, I can't say that's really "beating back the onslaught"

Decreasing it to zero is hilarious poor decision making, something that seems to be trademarked by FDEV

I'm sure it's supposed to all seem hopeless at the start.
At some point there'll be an epic battle over Sol.
And when all seems lost something will happen to turn the tide.
Like War of the Worlds or something.
It's all part of the narrative.

This one point says everything that needs to be said. FD said, in their explanation of the mechanics, said that as this progresses, they'll tweak their machine.

One suggestion: don't reset it every week. Just give it six weeks and let us continue making progress. After D day in WW II you didn't see things reset every week - it was a process. This war needs to be done in the same manner. Just my 2 cents.
Resetting is akin to the film 'Groundhog Day'.........didn't enjoy the film so not gonna play the PC game;)

I'm sure it's just a mishap and FDEV will fix it.
If the infestation will only occur in 2 weeks approximately, the progress bar can only reset when that timer ends, not every thursday!

Although, thinking about it, if a system needs 2 weeks to defeat the Thargoids, with a good chunk of the playerbase focusing on it, while in the same amount of time the thargoids can take several other systems, then obviously we're doing something wrong. There's got to be more to it. Something we still dont know or dont have yet.

The issue going forward is "how can I trust Frontier & their programmers/developers in any future narrative content, after pulling a stunt like this!"

It was hopeless, now it's just not interesting
Some small sense of progress has to be made I guess, or people will lose interest as seems to be happening.
But didnt fdev say that things probably will need to be adjusted and balanced, as is the usual?
I was expecting that 1 system to be saved and maybe another one in the next couple of weeks, while all the other systems are taken by the goids...

Resetting every Thursday is intentional, FDev already confirmed this.

I believe the numbers of the thargoid-war bgs are just fked up. The whole playerbase whaled on one system just for a lousy 40-50% progression while 50 other systems were under attack, this can't be right.

If that's the case then the solution is easy

Who woulda thunk that wiping out player progress might be a not-so-good-idea? 🤦‍♀️

Same here. And just for the record, I would love to see this pushed to more extremes. By all accounts this war should be an extinction level event, not another mild spanking like all those skirmishes years prior. Plus it would make room for some much needed adjustments of the status quo (like the ongoing demise of anarchies).
The thing is though that it absolutely doesn't require this arbitrary weekly reset. If a concerted effort by the player base barely manages to save one system a week it takes very little effort for the Thargoids to overrun the bubble despite that. And there should be plenty of variables to tweak without having to wipe the progress every week.

I'm usually going out of my way to be nice and respectful to everyone, but wasting other peoples time like this is a colossally :poop:ty thing to do. I'm just glad I was too busy with retrofitting ships, otherwise I would be absolutely furious right now.

If that's the intention they are succeeding a little too well.

I agree. The progress should be over 6 weeks, not reset every week. Even if it is reset, there should be some level of movement on the slider bar indicating how much progress was made from the week before. Perhaps if we did get the bar to a 90% level by the end of the week, maybe the next week's progress bar should start at least at a 15 or 20% level.

I have to say it did not even occur to me that the progress bar would reset weekly. The obvious interpretation was that it was linked to the multi-week counter directly above it.
I was off unlocking Guardian tech to equip properly to fight in HIP 23716, and looking forward to it. Guess I needn't have bothered.
It had crossed my mind because this is really just some new stuff bolted onto power play so my initial thought was "things progress each week". However, given the timer later seen and the fact that the very concentrated effort was moving the bar extremely slowly I thought it was actually more based on the multi-week timer and I think the UI pretty much lead to that conclusion as you mention.

I think the 1 week timer is a big mistake really but they could tweak the numbers back into sanity allowing for a focused effort to save one or a few systems to succeed and still salvage this using that but now you just lost all the momentum so this week's numbers are going to plummet giving much less indication of what a focused effort would look like.

The 1 week timer was a mistake in my view. A pretty serious one.
