INRA Base Discoveries

Is it possible that as per the logs he did manage to make one jump before the systems went dead? We can use that to determine a list of systems the hive ship was in. Or, are we accepting he didn't? It seems to indicate he had some control after he fired, and he did set a jump to occur after firing.

IDK what the consensus is here (not in here much), but looking at the log it does leave open the possibility that he had control for a while after the program triggered. The initial program triggering maybe have just been a program to watch for a hyperspace jump, & then afterwards kill all systems. But with just that log to go by, we have no way of knowing for sure.
And for that matter, we don't even know if he did jump out of the hive system! All he says is "Then I punched the throttle. Woah!", so why do we think he did jump system?

Where has it been confirmed we started the war?

Do not forget that it was 200 years ago... the INRA bases were probably far out of inhabited space and the mining station simply did not exist then.
I think, we haven´t searched far enough from the crash site or haven´t looked good enough. I will return to the site today and start another attempt.

I thought it was more like ~130 yrs? Wasn't the original Elite based in 3175?

It's all about possibilities. Either he couldn't jump and the hive ship was in system, or he did jump and the hive ship was in one jump's distance.

Cool! :)

Fair enough, that's probably not that many systems either way, although that depends on his jump range.
Did he have Elite's standard JR of 7 LYs? (which would make it much easier!), or did he have a much higher than standard JR??

And even if we knew that, & if the hive ship is in the game, presumably it would be a POI showing up in the nav list? (assuming you're not looking straight at it), how near to these POIs do we have to be for them to show up on our nav list when we haven't visited them?

The discovery suggests, to me anyway, that ships during the era of Jameson were much less modular in design than they are nowadays.

Interesting.

If Jameson survived the crash then he might have set off on foot to try & reach the INRA base, leaving the beacon arrow to show his direction. Might have reached the mining outpost (it’s suspicious that it is so close to the crash site & more than one Cmdr has found it), which would probably be best for him as he would likely have been killed by INRA if he’d got to their base.

I thought it slightly strange that his sabotaged ship “rigged to disable after the weapon deployment” could still hyperjump after that deployment; would have been better for INRA if the jump drive was disabled on weapon deployment so the goids could finish him off, but perhaps it was done this way to give him a chance of survival in ED

So they could say he must have suffered a mis jump maybe?

I'm in the system now, haven't seen anybody else cruising around so far. This will be interesting once I scan the proper planet/moon.

Interesting story which is new to me, only been playing for less then a year now.

First off I just want to give a huge thanks to all those who have put the time and effort in to finding all these bases and Jamesons Cobra. Ive really enjoyed visiting all of them and absorbing the lore and atmosphere.

Second, has anyone else encountered the stalking System defence Cobra about a km from Jamesons wreck? Three times now I have visited it and each time, one will appear. He just sits there landed facing in the direction of the wreck.

Seems like Traffic creates NPCs

I was following the 320 bearing of the "arrows" when I had two lawless npc sidewinders jump in. They followed me for awhile and then high waked out. Odd.
