INRA Base Discoveries

It was all skybox matching at first.
Really an hit and miss, I circled around the planet several times until I thought of being close enough. Glided down to the surface, straight toward the canyon that was under me. From there just following the canyon's general direction; there was an awful lot of surface POIs on my radar in that area, I aimed at them at first but was only finding System Defense Force vessels every single time, which led me into a circling chase of about 50kms in radius, until I had the Milky Way's bright light contrasting with the surface on the screen (not even talking about the ambient occlusion near fat rocks on the ground that let you think you found something, the deception every time :D).
There was an object near a few rocky ridges that was creating some aliasing with the heavy contrast right in the middle, so I headed there, and bam.

I realized long afterward that it wasn't the same as the trailer, I was so focused on the background that I entirely forgot to compare.

Of note, I spent a few thousand hours licking planetary surfaces back during the CoR exploration CG in search for the bases, so had a fair few ideas of how to "enhance" the yoghurting experience already :D

About the above : Reduce all your graphic settings to the absolute minimum (planets looks like yoghurt at this stage, hence the term), try to find "contrasty" lighting conditions, and something I like doing : licking the surface upside down with the camera angled straight up your head

ah very nice!
so sky box was used to find the system, was wondering what lead to Hermitage couldnt find it in the thread :D

Yes I did find it abit odd that there were POIs out the crack out tehre and that there were also a lot of USS convoys.

Thanks for all that details. I was not aware of that. Just was with you live on vocal during the uncovered but I was not so aware about the details. Very enlightning !

And he just unleashed a plague on humanity. Those bases are really Thargoid ploys that are a 'reverse-mycoid' virus that will kill us all!

Still can't work that out. If it was the skybox that matched the system, then that must mean that there's other bases in that system we need to be searching for.

I know it's been made mention elsewhere, but in the linked video, at 15 seconds, the hull all the way to the right, looks like the new T9+ (T10?) with only 4 of its 8 engines lit.

As a space cow pilot, this intrigues me. It appears to actually been in the battle with the first wave of Thargoids before the 2nd wave dropped.

Wait, so was it skybox matching? Or intuition? I'm confused. And I still haven't seen any proof that the skybox matched. I thought that Jarvis just "flew around Alioth" to find something that looked right? Although.. 60ly isn't really "around Alioth" to me. But what do I know? *shrug*

For those who have the paperback copy of Premonition (not sure if pdf is the same), I think the last half of page 343 might give you a clue as to the fate of a certain ship related to the storyline ...
;
and I don't mean the Escape Velocity - although it was great to see the reference in there!

Congrats - I had a nosy round here back when the game launched - have always been on the lookout for something from the original games , wonder how long it's been in game ?
Also wonder if we can find any containers of Mycoid Virus to recover ?, "old" Thargoid tech even ?
On my way - need to go over this system with a fine toothcomb.

Why on Earth would you want to pick up the virus lol.

The logs make it seem like INRA weren’t the boogeymen they were made out to be.

The logs are indeed strange and don't seem to really fit:

The logs must be really old from when this base was first established. She is talking about the Mycoid virus only in it's initial conception and yet the base has tanks storing the virus... It doesn't make sense to me.
