Is Chapter 4 "make it or break it" for you?

It pretty much is for me. I stopped playing a while 3.1 (after a longish break after 3.0), and FDev will need to wow me to get me playing again. Fun new exploration and mining mechanics will likely get me to at least check them out when they're released, but major improvements of game balance on the whole will need to happen to KEEP me playing.

I suppose chapter 4 will be simply more of what I already like. So unless they'll ship some atrocious pile of garbage, it's not going to break Elite for me.

It's really interesting to read this thread. And kind of sad, too. Many people are still enjoying the game and will continue to do so no matter what future brings.

But there are also so many people who simply didn't find the game interesting, got burned out or stopped playing due to time restrictions or other reasons and now they are waiting for some miracle to happen. I feel sorry for them.

It's also the reason why the Forum is full of salt. This is partially Frontier's fault, but mainly people refusing to simply move on. But miracles don't happen.

Maybe for some.
Ill say
Every update is hated by some due to the broken unfixed bugs from last time

and all the new ones added that will not be fixed next time.

Send in a bug report "we are looking into this" 2 years later. Nada
But hey we'll get you your paint jobs in the store on time. Even some 4 quid light strips for you to add.
Whoop Whoop, Aint FDev the best.

Again Ill say I cant bring myself to log in, when I do see a ridiculous bug and log out. If they don't care why should I (meaning spend more cash)
Lets hope they pull themselves together, get a new QA chief to sign things off when they are ready and bring out a stonking Q4.

All forums, game or otherwise, is full of salty stuff. It's just the way of the internet and humans. People don't tend on the whole to post positive stuff. Moaning is much more rewarding!

100% with you there. I read the steam forums today on a game I don't even own.

My wife hates me you know.. dog always bites me. If only I had mates down the pub.

No, though I'm more than aware of the current limitations and need to expand in neglected areas. Having spent most of my game time in exploration and probably a lot more to come, I hope that side of Elite is fleshed out in a suitably engaging manner.
It would take a sustained collection of static and pointless updates rather than just the one in particular to fully push me away from the game. As long as Fdev are committed to pushing out updates throughout the year, then I'm committed to remain a current player.

I wouldn't say "make or break", but there are a lot more options now (and coming up) than we had in 2014 when the game came out. For me it will be the difference between playing for 20 minutes whenever a new patch comes out just to give it a try, and putting in another few hundred hours.

No. I am a happy player. A noob even at my 700 something hrs since the end of january. A precious happy snowflake who doesn't find the game boring or complex or dumb. A silly white knight who thuroughly enjoys Elite and even finds it among the best games ever. And I have played a LOT of games. So many it will make most 20 something gamers head spin. I am experienced and very well educated in the world of gaming and still I proclaim: ED is the bees knees.
Outrageous! :)

Shame on you, sir. :D

Witness the Rep that I couldn't tender. Plus one for you, whether they allow or no.

Fly crazy Commander. o7

Given that the core of my game play is largely unchanged since about 1.4/2.0 with minor balancing - BGS play - that would be a no. Everything new is bonus over things that already work well and keep me occupied. If mining ends up having a decent influence effect - which got removed around the trade nerf - i may mine again, though.

Not everyone has what it takes to rival Bazmeson.
