Begging is more profitable.
I've made 100 million in a night doing PVP piracy.. Ok, I could make more mining, but I don't think it's as bad as people say tbh, and it can be a lot more fun than mining.

Nothing personal, but I like keeping my prototypes secret. The element of surprise is part of my strategy. Eventually my reputation will grow and word will get out about my dread pirate ship that has no equal. Until then, I am a ghost in the mist.@Old Duck, what manner of vessel are you using to experiment with piracy, CMDR? I am considering a side piracy gig, myself. I have no experience in the trade. Presently, I am considering the Python, Clipper, and Cutter, as possible pirate ships. Thank you for your consideration of my request. o7
Cobra Mk III is the best pirate ship.Nothing personal, but I like keeping my prototypes secret. The element of surprise is part of my strategy. Eventually my reputation will grow and word will get out about my dread pirate ship that has no equal. Until then, I am a ghost in the mist.

My ship must be working, as I chased both a Deadly Cutter and Elite Corvette out of the ring! Never expected that..
I'm able to drop a lot of cargo from my "guests", but my collector limpets are being pretty rubbish at picking this cargo up... Do I need to individually target each item I want when it's not mine? I can do that, though it sure goes through the limpets quick.
I don't bother with NPCs, they are too predictable and boring. Piracy for me is a subtle game played between two or more intellects - a game of the mind. There is no negotiating with or intimidating or bluffing or [insert favorite psi-op] an AI. And when it comes to outsmarting an AI, I'm looking for weaknesses in an unchanging algorithm rather than the second-by-second evolving tactics unique to each individual player.years ago, i have tried to figure out how to go pirating NPCs.
Go easy on him @Krash I'll put money on the fact that your T10 is tooled-up in some way!Deal. I'll be on same time tonight.
If you could somehow launder pirated goods and sell them on as clean then it would be worth it.FWIW, I'm pirating for the challenge and the fun gameplay, but still, it would be nice if I could make enough credits to make it worthwhile.
Great idea cmdr. Things like this and improved missions would really benefit the game. Just recently finished Far Cry 4 and that had karma events that would just happen as you were passing by and you could choose to participate or ignore. Imagine randomly getting a message saying a ship carrying valuable cargo was in peril with reward to assist, with some cmdrs going to defend, some to attack, like an instant mini battle with no predefined outcome? What FDev should do is give every system a heavily guarded ship that has a unique cargo. Let's call it "Valuable Crap". This ship is loaded down with Valuable Crap and is guarded. It spawns at least once an hour or so in every major system and lasts until it is brought down. And the Valuable Crap it is carrying is worth around a 500 thousand to a million credits per ton depending on the markets. Which I think would be fair considering how much more effort goes into piracy than mining. Also it would be a risk vs reward endeavor seeing as the ship as I said would be heavily guarded. And it's not like the ship would be carrying nothing but Valuable Crap. Maybe just 10-20 tons per ship. And while we are at it lets make it to where this commodity can only be attained via piracy.
This would not only make piracy a more viable money making occupation, but it could also lead to some pretty dramatic gameplay. Imagine if 3-5 pirates are in the Sol system and they all find the money ship at the same time. Would they work together and divide the cargo? Would they turn it into a free for all?
Blame griefers. Also players tend to log as soon as they see a triangle on the scanner.

Nah, piracy isn't worth it. Fdev's policy is "low effort, high reward" anything that involves any kind of "git gud" pays only pocket change and sometimes even costs more than it pays (pvp combat is an example...)
I've done some pirating in the past, back in the early days. I didn't bothered much with particular high price items. I used to raid just about any freighter there is, anything goes. I was making decent money for a starter on selling in large quantities, not on the value of particular item. This is the whole idea. You getting bunch of stuff, real quick, sell it and get more. Eventually I gave up on pirating, I grew over it. I figured T9 outfitted for trading on a good trading route makes me more money and just as easy. As for pirating LTDs goes. I don't think you can make just as much money by pirating as by mining, and considering amount of time and effort required to mine full load of LTDs I don't think you should. Even in real life thieves forced to sell stolen goods for a fraction of the real value. The only reason to pirate is that you don't have to spend hours on mining. Just wack one dude, get his cargo and sell it in a hurry.I've been enjoying my new "night job" as a pirate. Thank you Frontier for giving us Borann! And thank you those who mine in Open. "Acquiring" LTDs is not my issue, selling them is. This is a pirate noob question, but do black markets mirror the regular markets when it comes to demand and price? In other words, is it possible to sell stolen LTDs at a price that is at least close to what I can sell clean LTDs for? Currently I'm selling stolen LTDs at a huge loss compared to actual mining them myself.
If the answer is "Yes", then how? If the answer is "No", then this is bad game design. Why would pirates even bother pirating when mining is so easy? Mr. "I guess my kids will go hungry" just needs to trade in his combat weapons for mining lasers. If anything, there should be piracy-based missions that offer MORE than market value (for "reasons") for things like LTDs, to make this valid form of gameplay actually make sense.
FWIW, I'm pirating for the challenge and the fun gameplay, but still, it would be nice if I could make enough credits to make it worthwhile.
With Fleet Carriers FDev are putting the potential for large scale player to player asset transfers into the game. Perhaps they will be more receptive to increasing or removing the bounty cap from PvP bounty hunting?
Blame griefers.
I dont consider myself as miner (although obviously grinded some for FC) but I wouldnt mind dropping FEW diamonds. But borann had more griefers than pirate i think.
