Making money as a pirate, is it possible?

I've been enjoying my new "night job" as a pirate. Thank you Frontier for giving us Borann! And thank you those who mine in Open. "Acquiring" LTDs is not my issue, selling them is. This is a pirate noob question, but do black markets mirror the regular markets when it comes to demand and price? In other words, is it possible to sell stolen LTDs at a price that is at least close to what I can sell clean LTDs for? Currently I'm selling stolen LTDs at a huge loss compared to actual mining them myself.

If the answer is "Yes", then how? If the answer is "No", then this is bad game design. Why would pirates even bother pirating when mining is so easy? Mr. "I guess my kids will go hungry" just needs to trade in his combat weapons for mining lasers. If anything, there should be piracy-based missions that offer MORE than market value (for "reasons") for things like LTDs, to make this valid form of gameplay actually make sense.

FWIW, I'm pirating for the challenge and the fun gameplay, but still, it would be nice if I could make enough credits to make it worthwhile.
I'm sure someone answered already but, yes, BMs price follows the local market price but you get 25% less.
As a VR pirate myself I am gradually expanding my selection of Voice Attack macros: if the client actually stops (not likely at Borann) I'll attempt to type while peering through the crack :)
I must have earned 1.5 billion through NPC piracy, and it's still very viable, but PvP piracy is peanuts in comparison: I suspect there are very few cmdrs out there willing to sit there while their hold gets emtptied.

I agree that something should be done about piracy missions.

I just need to sent in local "Tasty Cargo?" and you see the contacts drop and no wake signal at all. That's why I built a "stealth" pirate ship, much more success with that one.
May I ask what is your stealth ship of choice? My DBX has had a new lease of life recently, no longer just a taxi :)

Correction. An elite player in a mining corvette. But still. I wish all pirates were like you. I'd purposely return to your hunting grounds for the security and "tax".
Was that you I encountered? TBH, I don't know why more pirates aren't like me. That's not a brag, but rather an observation that my current approach to piracy is way more fun than other approaches I have tried (I'm being vague on purpose). It takes patience and a bit of skill, but it offers a form of gameplay that I really enjoy, something totally different than the typical session in Elite. It's definitely different than the average pew-pew gank (which I once tried on PS4 and grew bored with pretty quickly).

I made "good" money last night, about 10 million for a hold with about 30 LTDs. My ships of choice don't hold a lot of cargo, but I'm okay with that because I found the PERFECT (for me) pirate base within one jump from Borann. It has both a black market and an interstellar factor, and more importantly, it looks like a proper pirate base in orbit of a scary lava world. The prices here aren't great, but they are above the galactic average, and I'm pirating for fun more than credits. I just want to make "something" for my efforts.

Which is also why I prefer PvP piracy, as it is way more fun and challenging than NPC piracy, as detailed in a previous post of mine.

Also pirating players can lead to some interesting, unpredictable results. I pirated a Cutter expecting to get LTDs, and instead I got Fujin tea! Why's a Cutter carrying Fujin tea while mining? I don't know, but I enjoyed the surprise :D

I was at Borann 2 mining last night. After I filled my cargo hold, I wandered around the triple hotspot looking for a flying Duck to no avail. Sorry, I'll do better next time.

"Night" is relative. I'm often on between 6 and 8 PM EST, and I don't use interdiction (meaning that you're more likely to find me in normal space than supercruise).

Sorry I missed you last night, yes we're both in EST. I added an extra 50t of LTDs just for you. So you can only carry 30t?

As a Lord Pirate who would like see the burbble under anarchies flame i have to say:

1. I dont want clean comodities, but its welcome if its profitable.

2. I wanna get my pirate/smuggle carrier "Port Royal" and put a black market where players can buy cheap and sell for a good price at station to destroy bgs. I think the players can pay me to put my carrier to do that and the owners bgs faction can pay me more to leave the system.
