Mapping to New Heights ⛰️

I'm glad for some news, and this does seem like a super great feature, but part of me feels like it's similar to the billboards in that only people with the patience for some form of graphic art are going to get any use out of it. I agree with @Nioell that the best new features are ones that exist in the game, rather than ones that require leaving the game to use. In saying that, I terraform as I go, changing elevation where it's appropriate, so it isn't something I was looking for anyway.

Nonetheless, a lot of people are excited about it, and that's the main thing, and I'm excited to see what else is coming!

I'd like a way to download them from the workshop, this way they would be much more easily accessible.

Side note, I'm pretty sure we'll get more terrain stuff in the upcoming update.

These may still come in this update (and are actually very likely). This is just a featurette, not the whole update. That's likely on monday.

Yeah, I know that but honestly? I'm not getting my hopes up, got burned by that in the past and I'm not going down that road again. If they actually do add all that as well, great! But I also won't be surprised if they don't because that's actually what I'm expecting. Minus the terrain type selection option because that was a thing in PC already as well, so I can see them adding it as an actual feature in PZ, too.

I heard there were leaks regarding several terrain features. @Doran wrote about it if I'm not mistaken.

Seems like at the very least people will be able to use this feature to make custom maps, then upload said maps to the workshop. I don't think you'd be able to upload the .tif files themselves to steam, though maybe if you link it in the upload description that would work. Maybe the CMs/VMs could make a pinned page somewhere for people to upload custom made .tif files. I remember we asked for a similar thing when custom billboards, and then audio came out. It would be good to have those separate sections under the "Your Creations" tab. Just food for thought!

Awesome! I love that this will come with some pre-made samples, in addition to being able to create our own.

Especially love that you've made it open in sandbox, franchise, and challenge modes.

AND -- I love that we have the weekend to start figuring out how our create tif files (for folks like myself who haven't tried them). I'm looking forward to people posting their images too, like we did with billboards.

(tongue in cheek): Clearly, the billboard connection is a sure sign that we're getting an animal only pack this time around, since the import-it-yourself features allow Frontier to focus more dev resources on animal creation. :):ROFLMAO::love:

I'm wondering what happens with the trees in the map. Do they automatically rise to the new heights? Are they removed? Do they get buried?

Terrain features were datamined. Leaks for 1.7 and further updates are different story.
Bassicly there will (rather should be if this update is about terrain) be also waterfall mechanic which will work exactly same as in ZT2.
As I'm someone who never played ZT2, any chance someone might give a quick overview on how the waterfall mechanics worked in that game? :)

This sounds like a neat feature, definitely something I have wanted in the game as I am not very good with terrain tools, and always starting with a flat map in franchise can become rather boring. I was hoping it would come in a form of a terrain generator as this sounds a bit confusing to me at the moment. I do hope we'll be able to share pre-made maps with other players, perhaps via the Steam workshop?

Anyway, very excited for what's to come, and thank you Frontier for listening to your community! Each update brings community requested features and I really appreciate it!

If I remember it correctly you would place a Body of Water, build a Cliff next to it, place a Body of Water on that Cliff, drag the Mouse Cursor to the Edge of the Cliff while using the Water Tool and then you have a Waterfall.

But I'm not sure if this would really work with Planet Zoos current Water System

Maybe it would be more like rct3 instead? But zt2’s system could work in PZ

Gotta love the old ZT2 aesthetic
Awesome, thank you both!
Considering how customizable everything in this game is, I would actually be surprised to see something that works automatically rather than manually - but it would sure be appreciated to have that option.
