Game Discussions Microsoft Flight Simulator

In case anyone is interested, the Aerosoft Twin Otter for MSFS was released some time ago. I have given it a fair few flights so far but it is not as good as their "extended" version for FSX/P3D, however it does at least fly and has had some updates to overcome some niggling issues.
I have it also. You are correct in that there are a few minor issues but it does work pretty well on the whole. Most complaints are about the sound and minor control issues. The Daher Kodiak 100 from SWS is a more complete package and much more of a simulated package.

At last, Asobo added a World Update for Italy (and Malta), with several new photogrammetry city, including mine. There's also a very annoying issue with an overwhelming abundance of overgrown trees that makes every photogrammetry city feel like 100 years after the fall of civilization. Modding them away leaves the terrible blocky blobs of real trees in their place, but the general appearance from some distance becomes uncanny.

OA has already made a video about the tree apocalypse.

Asobo have been silent about it, so hopefully already fixed in Sim Update 9, due next Wednesday (25th) I believe.

They already released a fix yesterday, but from a quick glance at their forum it seemed to be hit and miss for different users. In my case, totally miss, it didn't seem to change anything. Current solution is far from ideal, but still better than the rain jungle.

So now I'm back to a microsoft flightsim. Before FSX , I had also played FS2004, FS2002, FS2000, and FS98. Some of my old addons for FSX are defunct like RC4x. And there's no passengersX with MSFS, so I'm using Air Hauler 2 with MSFS. And hopefully one day FSTraffic will be released for a more full (and easier to use) air traffic of commercial planes at all airports.

So I'm kind of "remote" playing MSFS or not actually as much currently except for type checkrides and some cargo flights on my own, and just checking in time to time with AH2. Six hired pilots. Just bought my first Cessna CJ4 in my "company". I'll wait until my AH2 company reaches enough funds to buy a 737 before I consider getting the released PMDG 737 for MSFS. With FSX i had the PMDG 737ng, 747, and was in a "Delta" virtual airline where I did the proctored test and passed into a DVA captain. But no more virtual airline, I'm happy with AH2, and the slight or intermittent time requirements although it's real time, so progress has to wait over time, and of course it becomes like a quasi-text (mail) game in a ways which I'm ok with oldschool.

I'm really amazed at the advancements of MSFT& Asobo's MSFS. Wow, the streaming satellite and aerial data with no real need anymore for general satellite scenery packs like Megascenery. And a bunch of poi points and visual landmarks included. And I guess ok weather so far maybe not needing ActiveSky. A bunch of airports and scenery also included and nice that Asobo is doing free occasional periodic updates like the trend with ongoing games today. Nice having a bunch of props and turboprops included, and detailed plane onboard systems enough compared to old payware planes for FSX, more garmin and some FMS for the heavies. Although I did get a Carenado piper PA34 last month through the in-game to steam marketplace pages. And very nice having the "showcase" camera where one can simulate "walking" or matrix-"flying" around the scenery seeing your home, city and places you've been even though some buildings are replaced by autogen buildings if not detailed enough in that particular local. Still, kind of like seeing the bing/google satellite/3d maps up close and plane interactively. I haven't been so far yet, just sticking to my locale and state mostly. Of course I should go see and fly over grand canyon, and all those other places vistas in the whole world. Overall kind of so much of dream features and immersive quality come true for those of us fs enthusiasts who had played the earlier fs's (or x-plane/prepar3d). o7

I agree. It is a phenomenal piece of work considering its size and complexity. I am amazed how good it is even with the odd issue/bug that occurs along the way. Most I can live with but there are some moaners out there complaining about the smallest issues with no thought to the scale and magnitude of the package. To be honest, I hardly ever touch P3D now...

I bought this on sale this week during the Steam Summer Sale. What a beauty! I haven’t played a MS Flight Sim game in decades, I’ve been watching this one since it came out but I wasn’t sure it was my type of game. Turns out, flying a fighter jet from Seattle to Grant County (a car trip I’m very familiar with) is right up my alley! I couldn’t find Grand Coulee Dam even though I saw it mentioned in the new update, so I’ll have to fly around a bit until I spot it. Amazing game, so glad I sprang for it.

I was confused about a couple things, I could only engage afterburners by looking down at the throttle and selecting it with the mouse, and I saw a prompt about shutting off my engines but it went away too fast to see what button it’s assigned to and that one I can’t seem to find a switch for in the virtual cockpit. I googled how to raise your landing gear and what I found was all incorrect for my setup. I know there’s tutorials for these things, I’m actually really happy that I could take off, fly to a destination, and land without ever going through a tutorial.

Haven't flown in MSFS for a while as I've been out exploring in Odyssey, but after updating yesterday evening, thought I'd dust of the Reverb G2 and take a spin.

Have to say that it really does look awesome. Don't think I'm getting great fps, it's a little stuttery here and there but not bad enough to to give me any nausea at all, and the scenery... Well it's sharp and crisp, hills, trees, rivers, roads and buildings all look really good, it's almost like being there, and the cockpit clarity (172 with the glass cockpit) is just great, don't even have to use the VR zoom feature to see the screens just fine.

Flew from San Jose to Monterey and everything worked great, VNAV descent picking up an ILS approach. Made me smile... :)

Is there a concensus on whether buying the game through Steam or direct from MS gives a better install/upgrade/overall experience?

Or are they much the same?

I had heard that Steam gives you the same (MS) loader for the game, and that in this case it is working solely as a shop-front. Eg Steam itself adds no value to the game.

Thanks in advance!!
