Needs it's own thread... RDR2 release date on PC

I know I sound like a broken record with this, but I can't praise Rockstar enough for how they relate the experience of talking to, riding and caring for your horse. I've never played another open world game where I took so much pleasure in slowly ambling from point A to point B, and the little random adventures that pop up (plus campsites that seem completely random as far as I can tell that disappear from one day to the next) are more fun than most games' main story arc.

The launcher and stability issues have me a bit scared to buy this yet. How have people's experience been with it? Anyone that had issues with launching it now able to play?
I had issues when it first released but it seems fine now.
The start of the first chapter is a little slow and there are times when it seems like a long series of cut scenes interspersed with just a little bit of controlling the riding just to keep you awake but gets better by the time you hit chapter 2. I have occasionally had some control issues but I think they are more player related than game related as I sometimes get mixed up with GTA V controls. This has the unfortunate consequence of punching the horse instead of mounting it ( the horse often gets it's own back by kicking you). I've had a few silly fails, like a bounty hunt target who absolutely had to be taken alive drowning when I tried to hogtie him in the middle of a river.

I did have a quick look at RDO but got a bit stuck. Just after you meet your mysterious benefactors there is a mission to kill an outlaw camp and steal their treasure. I knifed all but one who gave me a map in exchange for his life and found some treasure but I'm stuck in a limited area, if I try to get somewhere else I get a warning about leaving the mission area with a mission fail and return to the treasure if I ignore it. I don't know if I'm missing something or maybe it would be better to reset?

So I picked this up since it is on sale at the Epic store. I dont yet know if I like it or not. I've gone back and forth.

On the one hand the story is very engaging and I dig the characters and voices. On the other it's mostly like watching a movie and it tightly scripted. I love the visuals and soundtrack, but hate the overwrought animations that make the actual process of controlling Arthur feel like I'm pushing him through mud.

Doesn't help that i suck at combat. I rage quit last night after some O'Driscolls at a bridge killed me and my horse that I'd been bonding with. Lol.

So yeah..... Great game that is just not for me maybe. I'll give it some more time, but I'm half thinking I should've given it a pass.

Once you get out of the pro

You just have to get back on that horse!

What, my loaner horse?? Pffff!
:)
I bought a $15.00 horse and named him Derby. He's slow, lacks stamina, is skittish and kind of stupid, but I love to feed him oats and pat him on the neck when he gets scared by something. He's my friend, despite his flaws and we take care of each other:)

I came across someone caught in a bear trap. Being the honorable thief I am I stopped to help him out. Bending down, I started prying the trap open. Unfortunately my 'click the mouse rapidly' skills were not up to the challenge and the the trap snapped shut, killing the poor dude. Oh, and this earned me dishonor points apparently despite the fact no one saw and I was trying to help. After all, I could have just robbed him! Gotta love game logic. Lol.

Some escaped convict in handcuffs and leg chains came stumbling out of the sage brush, haggard and nearly dead from lack of water, and assailed me begging to have the chains shot off and a drink of water. So, being the kind soul that I am I whipped out my pistol, took very careful aim...and accidentally shot him in the foot. The last time I saw the poor guy he was screaming and limping off across the plain. Honestly, it made me feel like crap.

You and me both I reckon :)
I bet you know the answer to this and can help me: I just got a varmint rifle, fully upgraded, and have proceeded to shoot over a dozen deer in the head, only to watch them go galloping away. What's up with that? Is the varmint rifle not suitable for game that big?

I have not tried this in RDR2 yet but that makes sense - varmints are small animals, not big game.

Gonna take some research, I guess. I just shot a three star buck right between the eyes with a carbine repeater and by the time I hustled over to relieve him of his hide he'd been downgraded to a two star.

The .22 Varmint rifle is for badgers, beaver and smaller. For deer you'll need a Springfield...preferably with a medium scope. The Springfield with scope and high velocity ammo can kill anything one shot to head or heart from deer, boar etc up to and including Bison. The beauty of the Springfield with a scope is you can toggle the scope on and off for short range shots unlike the rolling block rifle and the like.

There's also a big difference between amunition types. Sometimes express or normal ammo does too much damage and damages the pelt...high velocity does less damage but has higher muzzle velocity and range making it perfect for all sorts of medium or large game.

I was just heading into town to purchase one. I don't know why, but my favorite activity (and I mean I can hardly drag myself away from it) is hunting. It's like an addiction, though I'm pretty bad at it so far. How do you acquire recipes for bait and disguising your scent? All I have so far is the "potent predator bait" recipe.

You can buy cover scent lotion from any general store...but the recipe can be had from the fence at Emerald ranch...or any fence for that matter. Basic predator or herbivore bait is the same...buy from a store or get the recipe from the fence. Predator bait is just gritty fish meat and berries.

You can also eventually find the recipes by exploring the world in chests etc.

The Springfield is perfect, great recommendation! Still can't find bait recipes, though, even at the fence in Emerald Ranch

Kind of confused about crime and bounties: I did a mission that involved shooting the heck out of a bunch of lawmen in the middle of a town. I was advised to put on my mask before committing any crimes, which I did, but I still managed to rack up a huge bounty and wanted status. What did I do wrong?

It's all just to make the area the crime was committed a bit more exciting until you can afford to pay the bounty off...it's not really that complex for a law and order system, more of a GTA style of having endless lawmen chase you around whilst the bounty is active.
After a particular one in Valentine...I rode away until the 'wanted' tag receded and the pursuing lawmen broke off the pursuit, turned around to head back and pay off the bounty at the post office only to be spotted by the lawmen who were also heading back to Valentine and the chase began all over again...in a chase...I tend to shoot their horses to slow them down and force them to pursue on foot rather than kill the lawmen. But the bounty for shooting a horse is more expensive than killing a marshall :D

What benefit do you get from wearing the mask?
