Needs it's own thread... RDR2 release date on PC

The launcher and stability issues have me a bit scared to buy this yet. How have people's experience been with it? Anyone that had issues with launching it now able to play?

Been rock solid for me, and there have been two sizeable patches since release that have fixed most (all?) of the stability issues other people have been having.

The only time it has crashed has been if I'm running one of the Scripthook variants. I don't think they work properly yet. But the game itself... no issues whatsoever.

I could play without any problems right from release. However, the game invariably crashes when playing for prolonged times - as long as I remember to restart it every 2-3 hours I'm good. Lately, those crashes were accompanied by a message that I'm out of virtual memory, so I suspect that there is some kind of memory leak responsible for this. I also had a reproducible crash during one side mission (Emmet Granger), which I solved by setting the graphics settings to low for this mission.

I've played the story through 3 times so far and the 1st thing I do (after the hosea bear hunting mission) is go back to the snowy area for that sweet white Arabian.
one of the fastest horse in the game (and she's free)

and thats just her base bonding Lv1 stats
I never liked the Arabian...very fast and agile but chucks you off when the wind blows through the trees or a deer farts...very skittish. The Turkoman being a crossbred warhorse/Thoroughbred is as fast as the Arabian but a great deal more stable, it's more likely to stamp on a snake instead of throwing you off a cliff leaping about like a rabid poodle.

I like how the different horse breeds have their own personality traits too, makes you more likely to actually like your horse. The Turkoman also one of the tallest horses in the game, less like strapping a saddle on a dog with hooves :p

That's pretty funny, given that's the temperament of an Arabian in real life.

I've been trying to hunt a Florida panther to get the last pelt I need for the legend of the east satchel (I reset my save to chapter 2 a few days back after a rare (for me) game crash lost me a mission item). It's one of the pucker factor 9.5 moments in this game when laying some predator bait and hiding in a bush waiting for said panther to appear...you begin to realise after a few failed attempts and being eaten whilst shouting at the monitor after snorting coffee all over the keyboard in sheer terror that you're actually the prey and the panther is hunting you.

The big cat behaviour programmed into this game is the epitome of evil incarnate...

Not counting totally new replays, how much time do you figure you have on any given playthrough?

It's kinda hard to work out...given that once I've finished the prologue I may wander off for several days... in real time... just doing stuff and completely ignoring the story...certainly in the hundreds of hours per run through.

Since I've been playing it for a year already on the Xbox...I've completed 4 run throughs of the main story but never completed all the various collection tasks, legendary animal tasks, legendary fish tasks...as well as many other side quests. I spent 3 hours in a saloon last night just playing blackjack...for instance :D

I also very rarely gallop like a madman between places, I either just walk the horse or canter looking around for whatever grabs my eye or attention. There's so much detail lavished on the game world that I tend to look at it as 'living' the game...rather than just playing it trying to complete objectives in a set time or for a specific reason.

Love the (white) Arabian myself, mine does not feel skittish at all. Or rather, no more than the supposedly fearless Hungarian half breed, which chucked me off right in front of a cougar when I was hunting west of Strawberry yesterday. Already had my bow out, so I got the cougar and no harm done, but still sold the horse shortly afterward. I also found a red Arabian in that region, but it's stats at bond 4 came nowhere near the white one, so I sold that one, too.

tbh i never had much problems with the Arabian bucking me off but yeah one of the things i don't like about it is the size, it's like a shetland pony :)

That's how I see myself playing it. It's rather refreshing that the game turns out to be more of an "old west lifestyle simulator" than Grand Theft Auto simply stamped into the western theme. I love the slow pace and the attention to detail that makes you want to engage the simulation, like patting your horse, or just leading him around by the reigns whilst searching for herbs. Speaking of the horse, this is the only game I can think of where I can actually communicate to my equine partner in a way that doesn't make me cringe or conjure images of animal abuse (I'm looking at you, Geralt!).

my 1st play through was about 85 hours (to complete the story and prologue) but it's still not "finished" yet

subsequent runs were shorter as i skip most of the cutscenes

you're a good boah

There was another 2.4Gb patch this evening as I turned the launcher on...
