New Version of Cmdr's Log Available!

Two more problems I've found with 2.1d:

- Missing government type 'Cooperative'. Example: Borel Dock in LP 410-81
- Can't launch more than one instance (maybe not an actual bug). Didn't want to import from my old data set in 2.1b because of all the various name changes and tweaks but still wanted to open it, side by side, with 2.1d as needed. With one running the other does not open.

Can also confirm that I have seen the 'HD set' on 'Illegal set' bug mentioned above.

I've just had a BSOD on my 32-bit laptop...and upon a restart it appears that all of my data files have emptied...quite literally. All that each file now contains is:

"Save Data
{
saveversion = 2
}"

and nothing else. The Cmdr's Log has been behaving a bit strangely all day. Lots of lag. When ever I updated fields in the Commodities screen I would get a pause and something visibly would be happening in the Systems and Stations list - highlight bars moving up and down and screens refreshing - until tonight when it finally crashed on me mid-data entry. The BSOD occurred and then it seems all was lost.

I am a bit destroyed. That's six days of post 2.1b data, all gone - stations, commodities, notes and journal, the lot. I kept a version at 2.1b but not since. Take back ups fellow users, take backups.

Tonight, I'm done with this but can anything be done tomorrow when I have calmed down? Is the data sitting hidden somewhere?

Still loving it (but a bit fed up).

Jon

EDIT: Nope, all of the files are gone. Oh well. I was more fed up about the loss of my notes and journal entries than the Station data but hey, nothing in life is forever! Gives me an excellent excuse to go back and have another look. The only reason I was using it on a lap-top was because my NVidia ShadowPlay screen capture thingie would not work with the Windowed or Borderless monitor settings on my two-screen set-up. You could not look at both ED and Cmdr's Log at the same time. Anyway, a little digging on t'interweb has shown me a workaround for this problem. I now have ED on my primary monitor and can access CL on my secondary. No more need to use a 32 bit version either. It's the full 64 bits for me now!

Take care
Jon

This is an excellent tool but I have a few niggles.

Is there anyway to add in systems without stations? I was doing some exploring and just typing in the system names on add so they were showing up as systems but leaving the stations blank (due to not exploring them). Once I closed and reopened the program they were gone.

Could the travel log pull the system name from the game like ocr does and use that rather than needing to click arrive and depart each time as this way you could log unexplored systems.

The economy names are like High Tech - Extraction but on the system view they show the other way around. I understand that this is a design choice to display all system types together but it does niggle me when they should be the other way around.

Could you add in check boxes like the black market one for shipyard, outfitting, refuel and reload? It would be nice to know at a glance where to go for stuff.

Any plans to expand the trading to do multi-hop routes rather than just round trip?

This with ocr is great for trading without cheating and I can pull in all station data in under a minute. Thanks a lot for the awesome work :)

I can answer a few of those niggles! (That's a funny sounding word)

There is a checkbox in the add system/station dialogue that says "No Stations". There has been since version 1.

You can edit your default_station_data.txt file if the order the categories are in bothers you.

You can add your own checkboxes through the "Custom fields" feature in the latest version of the program. (In earlier versions checkboxes were not an option)

Concerning the two feature requests I obviously can't speak for ArchV1, but those would probably be major additions, so it'll probably be a while before they get added if at all.

If you want to just add the system (or it has no stations) then make sure the "No Stations" checkbox is ticked.
I just tested it by adding a system manually with the "No Stations" checkbox ticked, closed the program and restarted it. It was still there after.

Well the real power of this program is it's flexibility. I had the same OCD issue so I did something about it.
Look at this screenshot for my setup:

It's really not so hard to do just a case of manipulating the xml files with a careful use find and replace for the data already saved.

Again, the program has the tools you need at your fingertips. Use snippets for the stations notes (which you can edit/add to your heart's content).
Example again:

It's very easy to add in data that isn't 'hard-coded' into this, you just need to find out h ow it all works and make it do what you want.

Thanks a lot for the awesome work :)
Totally, totally agree with this :)

Hi

I've two suggestion für v2.2 and v3.0 :)

v2.2:
It would be nice, if there is a counter about the Systems/Stations which are registered. Additional perhaps a counter how many are hide or not.

v3.0:
Distances. I'm an traveling trader with a lot Systems and Stations over 150Ly radius. So the Trading-Window didn't realy help, because the "good" traderoutes are mostly over 50-100Ly. I wish i could quality a range in which the Round-Trips will be calculated.
I know this will be complicated, i've no idea where to get the coordinates und how to calculated then the distances between to Stars (perhaps the verbose netLog?).

Thanks

Sign! This is the only missing function i realy think which will be useful...

Since I had some issues with OCR in another tool and me wanting to keep this on my laptop (semi-second screen) I gave this program a try.
It's quite what I was looking for. After a few hours of use I think I've found all features that are available.

I have one request/remark though;

When I search for an item type ('need'), the stations providing that show up in a new dialog window. That dialog window receives focus as it should. But the main window also pops up in front of the Trading window. I'd like it i that last bit could be removed.

Thank you for this tool!

Each pop-up window has a button in the top right which toggles that window to stay above any others. When the word 'top' is in capital letters, it stays above.
So use that button on the trading window and the 'need results' window will not force the main window to come to the front.

That way the results window stays behind the trading window too (with the search results window being a 'child window' of the trading window you'd expect otherwise). Though with the search results window put to the side that works.

Except that TOP also forces the trading window above windows of all other programs and I might want to alt-tab occasionally.

Well if you stack every single window this program provides on top of each other then of course that will be the result. There's a reason why they are all in their own individual windows.

I came across this thread and thought great, just what I need to keep a record of where I have been. However, I am thinking that the learning curve for this is only a little less than the game itself. I therefore started a spreadsheet and went back over my numerous notes deciding what to include. The more I used it the more I realised that I needed to keep adding fields to record data. So maybe the Comd's Log is the only way to go. Is there any form of instruction/guide or is a case of learning by use?

Just mess with it, it is fairly straight forward, post here if you have problems. There are always peeps about who will help

Thanks for encouragement - is it possible to add all my data from spreadsheet/notes in retrospect? (I accept that this would be a manual task) - I am thinking about the chronological ordering of the information

The program only displays time relatively, for example "9d", "15m" or "new".

All the data you enter will be assumed current for the time you enter it.

unless you open up the "system_data.txt" file (after exiting out of the app of course) - you can then go through and modify the date/time in the file for each commodity - a big task, but do able.

Each commodity in the file has a property: e.g.

modTime = "2015,01,30,10,37"

Hope this helps.
