To be fair, it's not a seamless transition today, and taking the same 'fade to black' approach as for SLF/SRVs and apply it to EVA would at least be consistent. I just fail to see why Frontier would decide to spend a significant amount of dev time building detailed interiors for 37 ships unless there will be some meaty gameplay added to make use of those environments. And I just don't believe that's what we'll get (though my guess is as good as yours).
Not only are they backwards compatible, but I expect ED owners will see the benefit of having unlocked framerates, so a PS5 owner will be able to select Quality Mode graphics AND have 60+ fps!On the next gen consoles, it's worth noting they are releasing a console version of Planet Coaster xmas this year, and enhancing it for the next gen consoles. I imagine the EDO version they are working on will work on next gen consoles, no? Are they not backward compatible (I know they arent out yet)
They said there are no current plans to support next gen.
Hughes: When we deal with those platforms, we want it to be special.
Yeah, I imagine limited cockpits would be quite simple for them to do if it weren't for the whole artificial gravity not existing thing. My biggest gripe with this (aside from immersion value that of course will vary for each player), is that the lack of ship interiors is also a telltale sign that several things I was hoping for won't be there as well as they pretty much depended on ship interiors and ships themselves being part of a seamless world.
I would love for instance to get up from my seat, go to the ship airlock, EVA to some derelict wrecked ship in space, get inside, explore and collect salvage, then EVA back to ship. None of this is possible without ship interiors. Not can I join some other player in his/her own ship to go do something somewhere. Etc.
so the DOOM NO PS5! complaints are a little silly. But then, this IS a silly place! Not only are they backwards compatible, but I expect ED owners will see the benefit of having unlocked framerates, so a PS5 owner will be able to select Quality Mode graphics AND have 60+ fps!![]()

God yes. It is the prison transport that I have to drive to get me from the freedom of my home to the cell where I work. Ship interiors? No thanks.Do you get bored being in your car?
I have a feeling they will go for 8k as opposed to 60fps minimum, because you can't tell smooth framerates from promotional screenshotsNot only are they backwards compatible, but I expect ED owners will see the benefit of having unlocked framerates, so a PS5 owner will be able to select Quality Mode graphics AND have 60+ fps!![]()
That's not to say PS5 owners won't have something to complain about, since they will be stuck with PS4 graphics settings (textures, shadow quality, etc). As new games come out for PS5, ED will look dated in comparison. However, Frontier has time before this happens. It usually takes a year or more for developers to really take advantage of new hardware like the PS5 (Uncharted series notwithstanding). I suspect that Frontier will eventually switch to the next gen consoles once Sony & Microsoft stop selling the last gen consoles in another year or two or three.so the DOOM NO PS5! complaints are a little silly. But then, this IS a silly place!

True, but if all we're walking about our ships for is to get out of the cockpit onto the surface, that's a whole load of ship that we're not visiting and would we not be better with the 'fade to black' we have now with the SRV after the 10th time.I didn't select the Cutter on purpose because that appears to have a set of stairs at the front![]()
Let's actually get it confirmed, but what gameplay would you have that would make you want to walk around your ship after the first time?
Ah yeah. I mean, the thing is, the more you think about the implications of having ship interiors in the game, the more aspects you will have to consider. What gameplay should be added? How will this work in certain ships (hence my Sidey example earlier), will it actually be engaging to most players in the long run once the novelty wears off, etc. etc.True, but if all we're walking about our ships for is to get out of the cockpit onto the surface, that's a whole load of ship that we're not visiting and would we not be better with the 'fade to black' we have now with the SRV after the 10th time.
I am talking about our own ships of course. Unless we get to sample the narcotics or slaves we have aboard I don't see what we'd do most of the time. I'm happy for the devs to prove me wrong though.

Having stuff happen in flight is going to have a couple of issues if you're, say, flying though Deciat on a Saturday afternoon in open. Anything else we already seem to deal with through the HUD in the cockpit. I don't think doing the same thing but with extra steps is really the new gameplay a lot of us are after. It would depend on:
What had got loose in the hold
The benefit of personally tweaking a large variety of ship components
How many of my crew were availabe to repel boarders
The need to personally investigate a warning indication
Fitting a bespoke modification
The need to analyse a sample in the science bay
The need for medical treatment in the sick bay
A large number of other reasons.
