I highly doubt that.
Well, if you change your mind I'll be docking at the Space Café in Sol from time to time. There might be an off-line mode down the road, and I support it.
I highly doubt that.
Yes, because accessing a 1000k static webpage is like playing a permanently online MMO.
Elite, Elite II and First Encounters weren't games then? Interesting.
Then the "THEIR VISION" argument goes right out the window. It's not a valid defense. People either like something or they don't, and have a right to be upset, vision or no vision.
Basically these 4 posts represent a general trend going on here of "We can't have fun offline, so you shouldn't have fun online". This is the definition of toys being thrown out the pram here.
Please, the 4 people here, go get your refund then delete your forum accounts. There is nothing anyone here can do to turn your opinions around now, so you'll just add to the negative noise.
I skimmed through the KS page and the only thing I saw was a reference to solo player mode, but that was under the multiplayer heading i.e. that would need a connection.. Have you got the direct quote, or say where on the KS page you saw it..
In case anyone else wonders - the sudden lack of offline play is not a subject the Design Decision Forum heard a peep about.
This is of course a likely possibility.Though I sympathise with some, it's amusing to look at the post history of people wanting refunds and how much and how long they've already been playing the game for. Hint: If you've been playing the beta for 100 hours already, you're probably not going to get one.
So the game will only exist for as long as FD exists. That's nice for you.Trying to make it offline would have made both experiences worse than we were willing to tolerate. We had to make the decision and have done so. I would say that an offline rewrite of the game is unlikely for the future.
Better? Better for whom?I don't think anyone is arguing that those who need or want Offline-compatibility, don't have the right to say it. I've said that over and over again in this thread.
That said, if the game is better on the whole, because of this decision; and meets the quality-levels that FD have strived for... then perhaps it's a necessary evil.
I do not collect the tears of those who feel a great misjustice has been done. Instead, I stand back and appreciate why it happened. And I am sorry for those who will leave the game because of it, but I stand behind the decision that FD has made. Not because I am a fanboy, but because it makes perfect sense.
It was said from the start, it is still on the kickstarter page where I bought my "DRM Free" boxed copy which now requires persistant online connection
So if FDs vision was to make a game that you judge to be poor, you'd just accept and love it anyway?
Of course he wouldn't, he's not stupid.
Then the "THEIR VISION" argument goes right out the window. It's not a valid defense. People either like something or they don't, and have a right to be upset, vision or no vision.
This is comedy gold and a true sign of the times. People like you are the reason developers get away with always-online-DRM and butchered games like Sim City.

That would be 100 hours of my life wasted. I played to make the game I funded a better game. If I would have known what I know now I would never have played.
Considering that it would be a fair move if they didn't just give me a refund, but also pay me additionally.
PS: In my case it wasn't 100 hourse. But still too much.
They wanted to reel in as many potential buyers as possible before dropping the bombshells like this and the removal of half the promised features and content. Not surprising.
I like how you mistake being "mature" for simply having no standards of any kind. Carry on bragging about your education too, I'm sure people are impressed.Still is DRM free, just requires internet. Internet =/= DRM
Give me your babies.
No, id doesn't. Because if I did't agree with their vision, I just wouldn't fund it and participate. That simple. I'd get a refund if I wanted it, and move on with my life. Not moan on the forums for hours. But hey, I guess that's just me.
Really? Because I'm mature enough to realize that if a producer doesn't offer what I want, I can simply go to another producer? That's strange... I must phone my economics professor and tell him I've been mistaken this whole time. Thank you kind sir!
Maybe that's because the DDF is now an archive of early design work... Could be a possibility...
Requires internet=DRMStill is DRM free, just requires internet. Internet =/= DRM
i have downloaded every alpha and beta, the jerkyness in combat is a joke, the jerkyness in SC around systems since beta 3 is horrid, I backed originally because an offline mode was offered, great for when the game has run it's course we can still play, we're now a month from release to date i have 8 npc kills for the whole of alpha/beta due to my cross hairs going all over the place when anywhere near another ship in combat, offline stood a chance of making the game stable enough to play, I wish I could believe they could sort the network issues but they have failed so far, £200 is a lot to pay for something that I can't see being playable anytime soon
Still is DRM free, just requires internet. Internet =/= DRM
I'd try the pizza see how it tastes and if terrible i'd then complain.
I certainly would not whine and moan for hours to a chef about one ingredient missing from what could have been a amazing tasting pizza without even tasting it.
Did the chef do it on purpose to lose a customer, i very much doubt that.
It looks like what I said it does. I don't really see how any arguments could convince you otherwise. We can only go by what we see, and what we see is FD keeping this announcement for pretty much last, for reasons as discussed.Utter supposition, commander.
You're intent on seeing some vague evil presence because it would match up with your expectations. Better to see a demon, than logic, right? Because seeing logic would mean you'd have to think.
And thinking is what Michael, and David, have done a lot of - before they came to this decision.
I'm utterly tired of the communistic-accusatory model, that is based around feature X being removed, and therefore we're working with the Eye-of-Sauron.
Please, give it a break. Your tinfoil-hat encounters are amusing, at best.
For the record, I understand how frustrated people are that this has happened (probably around the 18th time I've said it in this thread), but the sheer misdirection and inability to comprehend fairly sound decisions astonishes me.
Fly safe, commander.
