Oculus Rift & Windows 10 Thread

That might be a global issue. I can't full screen an embedded youtube video either, and I'm on Win7 with IE10.

Depends. How does it manifest for you? Some types of embedding don't allow full screen by design but what I'm now getting is new. It goes full screen, but then the video disappears and I see just the browser page (in full screen) while I hear the audio

Just have to say, I'm loving Windows 10. I don't know how but it just is better. I even sat at an outpost watching the stars with 2.0x SS with no stutter (the oculus slider was at like 70%)

I have never managed to achieve smoothness at 2x SS before, regardless of how everything else was set

Bought a little Asus atom laptop to keep in the car for the OBD today. Cheap little thing but runs nice enough. It came with Windows 8.1. Upgraded it to Windows 10.

The touchpad doesn't work. Power management, brightness, volume, hibernate doesn't work. Bluetooth doesn't work so it can't connect to the OBD. Updating the drivers didn't fix anything.

Downgraded it to 8.1 and all works as intended. What a complete waste of time.
I had it the other way round. Updated my atom based surface 3 just fine (no surprise, it's a M$ product). Then i updated my gaming rig (Win 8.1).
The update stalled with a blackscreen. After several hours i did a hard reboot and ended in the recovery/repair menu. Rolling back to 8.1 failed because the files got corruptet. Completely resetting to start afresh failed as well (stopped at 2% for hours).
In the end i had to install windows 8 again and update it all the way to 8.1 with updates again. Then i did the upgrade again and it worked.

Windows 10 itself seems to be pretty good though now that i have it up and running. :D

Sounds like you might have power issues there, check your PSU, connections and the life of your Hard Drives

Windows 8.1, despite what all the newsfeeds claim, isn't necessary - windows 8 is fine. I had turned of 8.1 update reminders and couldn't get them back (nor the update itself!) and after a while of irritated panicing, I just decided to run the Win10 installer to see what would happen and it worked fine. Activated and everything

If anyone wants to do a clean install after doing the upgrade, just get the key out of windows 10 using a tool like Belarc, or Nirsoft ProduKey and then clean install it.

I learned that i can upgrade from the iso only after i did all that. If you boot from CD you cannot upgrade because the windows 8 key is not accepted. If you run setup from the CD while running windows 8 you don't need the key and the win 8 key gets converted to a windows 10 key though.

At least i got a clean install now. :D

When you do a fresh install using the ISO, what key do you enter? Can you use your original win 8 or win 7 key?
i prefer to do fresh installs rather than upgrades.

You are asking the wrong person, but if I were to guess, I'd say that yes, your win7/8 key would work fine, just make sure you have it. A few posts up someone gave some software that will find it for you for free.

Ps. found the settings that let you revert to win8/7:

It doesn't take your Windows 7 or 8 key during install, I just skipped this process until the install was complete.

Once installed I put my Windows key in and it activated with no problems, however because of certain issues with the auto Software updates I had to re-install it several times and in the end I just never put a key in and it still activated

The whole reason I have pro instead of home is because I tried using the win8 pro install with the home key and it magically worked. I'll be reaping that benefit forever it seems lol

I'm running windows 10 with a DK2 and a GTX770 with SDK 0.5.0.1.
If anything the frame rates have improved with the win10 upgrade. It is certainly stable.

I thought is take advantage of the free upgrade while I browsed the forums and update my laptop, things went well at first all installed then keyboard on the laptop stopped working followed by several BSOD's and then just a nightmare

Ended up spending the rest of the night formatting the laptop and putting a fresh install on that.

Ditto, glad to find out I'm not the only one!

Well I took the plunge last night and upgraded from WIN7 64 using the ISO and media creator tool. I was expecting some problems based on other peoples posts, and as I have a very old sub-optimal rig, made sure I had a WIN 7 recovery disk and full backup before I started. I was delighted when it all went smoothly - the only problem was the Nvidia driver for my GTX970, which had to be upgraded to a new WIN10 version. Everything else working without issues, DK2 (extended mode 0.6.1b), Warthog HOTAS, voice attack, audio, corsair keyboard, and Razer gaming mouse. Too soon for me to tell if there are significant improvements with E.D.

After some trial and error, I got the DK2 working on Win 10 with the 0.6.0.1b runtime... but my X-55 is still not working properly. Saitek really dropped the ball again there.

Thanks OP. Without this thread I wouldn't have dared to upgrade. I had problems with the oculus driver, despite following the procedure posted at the rift forums (no headtracking and flickering). Looks like you have to go with runtime 6.0.0 and not 6.0.1 wich was working perfectly under win 7. Now everything is perfect. Still can't believe that the update worked as advertised. Kept all my programs and windows settings. Also i can confirm having lower latencyin elite and asset to corsa. Quite impressive improvement to be honest. Like OP said, you don't notice it until its gone. Can't wait to play tonight :)
Long story short: Get windows 10!

Except when you happen to use a Saitek X55...

Not sure if anyone else has tried this...

I was running Oculus runtime 6.0.0.0 in windows 10 by using the compatibility mode desktop shortcut method... had a few bugs (like the black desktop bug) so decided to downgrade.

Can confirm that on my system Oculus Runtime 5.0.1.0 runs out of the box (set installer to compatibility windows 8 before installing)... I don't need to trick it into running with a shortcut or anything, it just works in the background as it should. Desktop bug has also gone.

Of course this might not work for everyone!

Very cool! works on my system too. It, like 6.0.0, cant run direct mode thou (youre able to select it but the display driver crashes). other than that it´s a great solution to have the display driver and configuration utility running in the background as usual.
Curious if I see a loss in framerate since I found it quite improved in a number of games going from 5.0.1 to 6.0.1,

@ warbaby2: what´s wrong with saitek X55? are you sure the issue isn´t on your or Saiteks side? (check usb power driver ect..sorry if this has been discussed before)

I have quite a collection of usb peripherals plugged into my Workstation all the time and its business as usual after the update. (I was prepared to fight with drivers and curse Microsoft, like it should be with a major windows release! ;-)
Even strange ones as my Nikon Coolscan V (35mm Film Scanner) wich was last supported on XP and was a huge pain to get running on Windows 7 and my Dualshock 4 Controller via Bluetooth/DS4Windows work. (those two were the only ones with no driver support for Win7/8 and my workarounds keep working, very nice!)
other gaming/work stuff I allready tried and can confirm working under Win 10: Defender Cobra M5 Joystick, CH Pro Throttle, Logitech DFGT wheel, Roccat Tyon, Samson Go mic, Huey Color Profiler, Audioquest Dragonfly and iFi Mini Audio Dacs..

It's the Saitek driver, most likely. The stick and throttle work in theory (meaning, in the HUD configuration software), but in game it seams like the "right" direction key is pressed all the time, making navigating the menus, let alone playing impossible.

I can conform that the DK2 works with 0.5.0.1 driver, though.
