For what concerns the galaxy/system UI, I like some parts and dislike some others. For what concerns the outfitting UI, I feel that the changes made it unnecessarily sophisticated and convoluted and that Horizons UI is better in every aspect.
GALAXY UI PROs
GALAXY UI PROs
- The system search function is better than Horizons. Having a list of systems you can select is overall better.
- System filters are in a good spot.
- Having my ships' positions easily accessible in the galaxy map is a great addition.
- New markers added are a great addition, too.
- Better bookmarks accessibility.
- Copy system name function.
- Selecting a system is sometimes harder than Horizons UI. It feels less precise and sometimes clicking on a system results in selecting a system I didn't want to select. I feel that this issue would be magnified in denser areas, such as Galaxy Centre.
- Points of Interest function in system map allows a better search function for settlements.
- Better bookmarks accessibility.
- Copy body name function.
- Too many steps to access basic body information.
Suggestion: I think that "Description tab" and "Planetary information tab" should be merged. - Missing body information replaced by an image that is sometimes ambigous or doesn't really explain what body type you're looking at.
Suggestion: Having a simple high metal content body or icy body nomenclature, as we used to have in Horizons, would be clearer.
- Stored modules are more clearly sorted and are easier to access.
- Modules are difficult to fit on ships. When you have more modules of the same type to fit, it's really easy to fit an already equipped module in another slot, trying to fit another one.
- UI is overall counterintuitive and disorienting.
- UI generally requires more steps to do simple things that in the old UI would require less steps. More of this in the next point.
- Equipping stored modules is not time efficient.
As of right now I stored four heatsinks and I am trying to equip them back on the ship. Every time I want to do that I have to select modules storage, then select heatsinks, then select the heatsink and equipping it on the desired slot. After doing that, if I want to repeat the same process with another module, I have to go back again to "modules storage" and do it all over again. - Possible solutions: revert it back to the old UI. The new outfitting UI is just worse.
