Odyssey Optimization Needs to be Fixed

12 updates in and a lot of the fundamental graphics performance/lighting issues are still there and based on issue tracker some of them will not be addressed. I don't think people are out of line at all to wonder if the tech just isn't up to the job.
So they fixed like a 1000 bugs, but because they didn't fixed that one issue, it's the end for the game? Come on, man!

Tbh, i read a lot of your post, and you don't look like the person that would be swayed by other opinions with out trying out the game your self. But since you resisted for over a year now, there must be some other reasons. But regardless of what you think, Horizon has no future, only Odyssey does. So if you don't get on board eventually, you will be just left behind.
I'd try Odyssey in a heartbeat if that was an option, but you're asking me to BUY Odyssey, and that's a bird of a different feather. It's too bad Steam doesn't have a better return policy. Of course if a steep enough sale comes along, then I'll probably just go ahead and "give it a try" for the cost of a french fry.

When Horizons is replaced by Odyssey Lite (which I do believe will happen, though probably not until next year at the earliest), there are two possible outcomes if I'm still a "Horizons Holdout" at that time. If I'm one of the lucky ones with none of the problems reported in this and other threads, then I'll just go ahead and upgrade to full Odyssey. If, however, I end up with all the same issues being reported here, the same issues that has earned Odyssey a Mostly Negative review rating, then I'll likely just uninstall Elite and "abandon all hope".

I will say this about Odyssey, it's given me a renewed appreciation for Horizons. It's back in my trifecta of favorite space games, with X4 Foundations and Space Engineers being the other two. I will be genuinely sad if it's totally replaced by Odyssey someday, but I am prepared for that eventuality.

well all the missions are still broken randomly , NPC's standing still when getting attacked ( not moving no matter what ) , misaligned objects in concourse , settlements and carrier , extremely bad performance for no reason , missing npcs in assassination missions , settlement raid missions with no npcs in them , getting killed by invisible people , this one happened to me in a recent game , was jumping around an empty settlement then saw targeted for a scan appear , but no one was around (even on scanners ) then I got killed by no one , these are just a list of bugs , not just since update 12 but since buying the game 6 months ago .

I haven't experienced anything that you have described in a long time. It sounds like you are nitpicking about random issues that happen to few people and make it out to be like everything is broken.

Let's say you put me on ignore (I'm not asking you too, I'm just making an argument). Does that mean all of the sudden all you see about Odyssey is stunning positive reviews? You act like I'm single-handedly destroying Odyssey's reputation. Out of all the posts in this thread, including the OP, why single me out? Is it because I'm an easy win in an argument? "He doesn't have Odyssey, so everything he says is false." Okay, sure - you win!

Now what about everyone else posting about bad performance in this forum and elsewhere?
I answered because you stand out with a high frequency of negative posts on ED:O performance in combination with total lack of experience which you bear like a sign in front of you (your disclaimer says it all).
At least, most of the people who complain about issues, actually own the product and report first-hand experience.

You're right, of course. I'm sorry for misleading everyone. Odyssey is a great DLC which performs amazingly on the vast majority of players' computers, well earning its overwhelmingly positive Steam review. I encourage everyone, if you haven't purchased Odyssey, stop what you are doing and buy it today!

Your sarcastic remark deliberately misrepresents Jinx Chrome’s point. That’s dishonest, Duck.

I recently observed really bad stutter flying near a surface, I was fine if I was 1km up but as soon as I got near the ground where rocks etc loaded in, it started stuttering like mad. The planet had bio but I couldn't actually see any between chunking frames. Worse than day 1 odyssey for me. Its always been not great and the faster you go, the worse it would be at very low altitudes but I was surprised how bad it was after all these updates.

I'm on an i7-8700k and RTX-2080ti. I'm used to getting decent performance in odyssey, stations have been decent and I've been playing VR without much issue. Planetary has always been a bit of a crap shoot but this was unplayable at that altitude, it was either pull up out of the rock-rendering-zone or land and get in my SRV.

Hey man, no one said you have to stop playing. I'm merely commenting on speculation that the game engine might be hitting its limits. Keep playing if you are having fun, that's entirely up to you!

happens often to many people , even ricardo has video proof of it happening , either way if the game works for you thats great , but it doesn't work properly for me and it doesn't work for many people so I'm not going to pretend everythings fine when it isn't

Blaming the Cobra Engine for being slow (without any knowledge of it whatsoever), is like blaming a car for being slow, when somebody is driving it at 20MPH.
But why are they driving the engine at 20mph? You already mentioned the reason: no knowledge of it whatsoever.

The problem with in-house engines is that they require in-house training. Developers familiar with Unreal are not hard to find these days, but who has ever worked with Cobra?

Imagine Night City the size of a Planet - real planet - why didn't CDPRed do it, why stop on a tiny city? Because it would be a slideshow.
Because Cyberpunk isn't a space game. And how do you know it would be a slideshow? Games with planet-sized procedural cities exist, but they don't run on the Cobra engine. Meanwhile EDO collapses under the weight of a tiny village surrounded by a desert. No matter how you look at it, performance-wise EDO is at the bottom of the food chain.

Btw, this screenshot was taken today. I feel like I'm time-traveling back to May 2021.

Odyssey's broken optimization needs to be fixed urgently.

I'm seeing that for me, even with above average settings, I still suffer from drops, freezes and extremely low fps in stations and settlements.

This is something that had to be focused on to be corrected, because in addition to alienating new players and even the oldest, it still creates a "bad reputation" for the game. And it's not just me saying this, it's the community itself that evaluates the game through Steam, Epic and other media.

In terms of content, immersion, fun and the like, I can't criticize ED: Odyssey, as the game and its expansion give me all of that. But in terms of optimization and problems currently existing, I wouldn't recommend buying the game to anyone.

One of the experiences I've currently had really put me off even playing it. After a group of friends (8 players) bought ED: Odyssey, in a few hours they all asked for a refund, precisely because they played ED: Horizon without any optimization problem and in ED: Odyssey it becomes annoying and breaks any experience.
Would you recommed a game to me, and I'll see what it's like?

Your friends were able to get a refund, though? Makes sense if they're not happy with what they bought. I'd recommend EDO, with a lot of heads-up, but also, I'd not expect anyone to stick around if they weren't happy with it. Was that through steam?

I'd try Odyssey in a heartbeat if that was an option, but you're asking me to BUY Odyssey, and that's a bird of a different feather. It's too bad Steam doesn't have a better return policy. I'm fairly sure steam has a decent return policy. Looks like some folks who know the OP got one. I've not needed it for Odyssey, but dont they give you a time period to use whatever you buy, and if you're not satisfied, you can return it? Or does that not apply to Frontier games, since, well, it's Frontier etc? Genuinely wanting to know if thats a thing. If refunds go as normal, it shouldnt be complicated.

Darn, I clicked that link and felt like I've been rick-rolled lol, getting a face full of that never-going-to-work SC shill.

So you took a picture of a pavement and wondering why no journal wants to buy it. Shocking.
If you want to learn how to take pictures, i recommend asking for ideas in this threat: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threads/stellar-screenshots.424051/page-627
It's supposed to be a planet surface, but with all the tiles I'm not surprised you mistook it for a pavement. I wasn't expecting to win a contest with what's essentially a photo of a crime scene. I left the ship in the picture not because it's pretty but to give you an idea of the size of the pixelation.

Let's face it: no other game produces this sort of garbage after one year and 12 rounds of bug fixes. And don't you ever tell me again how much better ED's planets look since Odyssey, because 98% of them look like this. Grey, boring, and pixelated. You won't find them in the stellar screenshots thread for obvious reasons, but they are the reality of the game.

Planet tiling is not a problem. Personally never notice it. The few of the same picture circulating around - today would be labeled as fake propaganda, as they try to create a Elephant out of a microbe. StarCitizen is full of it, yet our hard critics of ED like Obisidiantatn never seem to notice it. Cause it doesn't fit their nerative.

Rarely do we see this level of cluelessness.

I just made fun of your nitpiciking, cause you game failed to load texture properly, or you went to the same spot from last year where players found patches of pixilated textures on a planet, just to nitpick and create an illusion that nothing changed.

Since you clearly don't play the game anymore, and you can't experienced what billions of other amazing planets that are in the game, i made a reference to Stellar Screenshots to broaden your Horizons ( pun intended), so you could try to come out of that negative sphere that you trapped your self in, that prevents you from enjoing this unique game.
