Odyssey Progress

I have been playing on my old home machine from 2014, which has an Intel i7 Extreme CPU and a GTX 980 GPU, 16 Gb RAM, playing at 1080p full screen at Ultra. I was doing this so I could have a good feel for how the game was playing on older hardware, and I used this same machine during Alpha. I have also been playing on a high spec 2021 dev machine.
Stuck on a GTX 970 here, so I dig this. Biggest issue right now for me is performance on planet surfaces. I know my GPU is old, but it's impossible to find a replacement these days. Hopefully things improve going forward. (y)

I'm surprised at a few of the posts on here. I'm sure many of us have been around the block a few times, and we all know from experience that software, when tested, has a tendency to behave differently than it does after release on a large scale. Odyssey is no exception.

Problems will occur - because there is no way anyone can envision every possible scenario that comes up.

So go with it and accept that there is going to be a "shakedown", or "sea trials" period.

Thank you for apologising, it is appreciated because this experience created little moments of misery for a lot of us, and with the way the world has been lately, little moments add up even when it's relatively trivial stuff like computer games.

Keep being genuine and doing your best, and it'll work out ok.

I can't wait to see Odyssey realise its potential, so please keep it up.

Stay safe, be happy.

hey man - thanks for this. it's good to know that you guys are putting in the effort to make it great.
wish you guys luck - it's gonna be quite the challenge

Greetings Commanders,

With our first hotfix now released and another one arriving very shortly, I wanted to take a moment to address the wider community feedback and reports regarding performance issues, server outages, and bug reports within Elite Dangerous Odyssey.

First and foremost, I would like to apologise wholeheartedly to those who have been suffering from these problems. I would like to reassure you that we take these issues very seriously and that they are our top priority and focus.

Our second hotfix will be released very soon, which we hope will address more of the reported bugs and bring further stability improvements into the game.  We will continue to work on updates which will resolve more bugs and improve stability further.

Some of our players are reporting poor performance on machines where we would expect the performance to be good, and others are saying it is fine. We are trying to get to the bottom of this.

I would like to thank you all for your patience and support. The Elite Dangerous community has always been at the heart of the game. We understand that there are a number of players who have had problems accessing and playing the game and I can assure you that we are focusing fully on improving this for those affected and communicating with you openly and regularly about how these issues are being addressed.

Thank you all,

David

Appreciate you taking the time for the post...got figure you are in major cat-herding mode right now.

Running on a AMD TR 2950, 128GB ram, SSD and AMD Radeon VII. Frame rates are meh but doable on planets, rock solid in space (Highest settings for everything). Most of my problems with Odyssey so far have been self-inflicted...expecting the interface to behave or be a certain way based on Horizons and getting frustrated when it isn't; though the UI does need some serious polishing.

On foot missions that I have done have been pretty good so far and interesting. I am more of a tourist so I just love to wander around and look at stuff and there is a ton of interesting details everywhere.

thanks again and I, for one, appreciate the opportunity to get out and actually look at the ship I am flying.

And then people wonder why the Devs and David don't post on the forum as often as they used to

I do wish those making rude, obnoxious and negative posts would appreciate that this is counter-productive and absolutely not helpful to anyone. If you were working flat out to make something better and someone else posted what you just posted, or are about to, how would that make you feel?
Probably foolish, because there's no way FDev couldn't have known about the state of Odyssey before release. They released it with many issues from the Alpha, issues they said would be fixed.

A lot of player trust was (rightfully) lost, push back shouldn't be all that surprising.

Thanks for saying something, at least.

I'm stuck in a shuttle loop above a ring planet like many others.

How did this issue make it past testing?
