Ok FDev, we need to talk.

just seems like a waste.

tell me about it. if you think engineers are a hassle for exploration, try combat. i'm passionate about combat, i was even thrilled about ship customization, but this gear and collection rampage finally put me down. and sleutl is right in that most of these 'issues' can be solved within hours (not all, though), but the whole wow-type thing is just offputting in a game with such possibilities. then again i can fit my viper with regular stock plasmas and fixed cannons and have a lot of fun honing my skillz with npc for a few hours. there is still room to play. best wishes for your expedition.

I expected that kind of reaction from a few folks. There is always a troll community that would rather flame than discuss. I'm not rage quitting though. I'm not in a rage at all. I love the game and I am grateful for the time I was able to spend in it. It's just time to re-examine that time. I'm sure I'll come back for DWE2 and I might just get the Conda read to go and head out into the black now... just seems like a waste.

If you feel you're wasting your time playing ED right now then yes, go play something else.
I play games to have fun, if fun is wearing thin then I play something else.
ED is still giving me a lot of fun but I did have my periods of fatigue, I took several breaks and came back.
I'm a life long gamer too, I'm 52, and one thing I've learned is that as soon a game isn't as fun anymore then it's time to either quit or take a break.

There are to many good games out there in order to have to play a game without having fun.
Nothing dramatic, no fun, not playing it.

Edit,

As example,
The Guardian weapons, having to grind the same thing twelve times over in order to get the required materials is NOT fun, so I ignore that fiasco and do something else.

Well...

I did manage to fully Engineer a new Chieftain. Took me a full month.
A large batch of FSDs I plan to ship back home to Colonia of FSDs is approx. 35% done.

Just for those (checking Stats), that's what I had to do so far :
ELITE-MatGrind.jpg

Let these numbers sink in for a while. 1 new Ship, a bunch of FSDs and a few (5 or so) Weapons plus minor niffnaff at best. That's it.
Each of these Mats or Data had to be collected, and I was actually fairly well stocked before V3 hit (nearly 500/500)

FSDs I can't possibly and don't even want to complete back in the bubble anymore, running the hoops with the Chieftain showed me just how time- and effort-wasting the new System is.
(I made it a habit to loudly say "Wasted!" anytime I rolled one of these useless "LevelUp!" rolls or whenever I got a "nano-progression" due to the RNG, throwing precious Materials straight out of the Window)

Once I'm back home in Colonia, I've decided I won't touch the insane Material-Grind again and never get ripped off at the Material black holes again - and leave it be. Simply not worth my time.
Screw the RNGineers.

PS.
The idea to re-engineer all my Ships? Insanity.
Point-blank and simple.

Exactly right, and I think that is really what I was driving at with the OP. This has been a great game for many years.... but there really are some great options out there.

Two commander accounts, multiple ships each. I'm sorry OP, but I cannot understand why someone with such limited time (busy career and a child) would do this.

I have more time to play than you (childless; work is busy but a standard 8-hourish day usually) and I have one ship, one commander. It's a ship I really like, it can't do everything but then I don't want to do everything. It's (re)engineered, it's done. And I enjoyed engineering it (admittedly part of that was knowing I only had to do it once). I've owned a number of ships over the years since 2014, but usually only one at a time, because I don't want to be a micromanager at home.

So if you must run two accounts - pick one ship for each. The two ships you like the most for the tasks you like the most - not for absolutely everything. Engineer each one ship for each account. Done.

Ships (and commander accounts) are like children. You should only have as many as time and financial resources will allow. And just because the game allows you to own a fleet, does not make it mandatory.

Great post op. Shame the usual characters with their usual have already shown up, but that is just as the way it is.

The devs rely too much on f2p grind mechanics as "content." To an extent, I understand why, there's so much promised in this game that actually delivering it as fully fleshed out content would take decades, so they take shortcuts and replace real content with time sinks. Personally I think it would be better if they were just to develop the game at a slower pace so they could focus on delivering fully fleshed out content, but what do I know.

I'll give you a clue - all computer games are a waste of time. By definition.

Anyway. Bye. :)

Not really. I seem to remember seeing something to the effect that computer games can help older folks (like me) keep cognitively sharp.
Sometimes tho they just raise an already borderline blood pressure.

I've been playing ELITE for well over 30 years.
Yes... it has changed a couple times.
Like when it started landing on planets.
Man did I not want to go there.
I played to get as far off this fool planet as possible.
But I got used to it.

:)

Both accounts are pre-child. I haven't touched the second since my boy was born. The second was just to allow me to get a break from space madness and participate in bubble life while my main was off gallivanting across the galaxy.

i do get where you come from, guys, but mocking every ragequit post doesn't change the fact that they are becoming increasingly frequent.

Same frequent as every time there is a patch/upgrade/update. znôrt, this is what happens when the same (and literarily the same) people rage-quits every three months, it stops being a serious concern.

While ye have a point op, I gotta say that personally I’m enjoying the revamped enginees...and I’ve been a long standing critic of them in the past so just putting that out there now.

Anyway, while ye do have a point, expect it to fall on deaf ears around here. Good luck to ye on yer travels ^

Search my activity and let me know when the last time I put up a rage post. Or a post period for that matter.

Honestly, and with the greatest respect, why not ask people for help rather than typing this huge goodbye-post? If you are spending a week of game time and come up empty-handed you are doing it wrong. You can always get a bunch of G5 mats within the hour and trade for the one you need. You could have done it in the time it took you to type the OP.
Pretty much this.

From what I've read and experienced, some G5 mats are much more common than others. So yes, there's probably some RNG tweaking to be done on the back end to alleviate some of this.
But they've provided mat traders. So just trade for what you need. I get you're trading at a loss, but it's a price to pay for the convenience of not having to always look everywhere for every single piece of a recipe.

For those who are just joining us, 3.0 Standard Operating Procedure for CMDRs who are fed-up with ED is to:

- Log onto the forums;
- Engage in a long, Sisyphean dialogue espousing unilateral love of Elite Dangerous;
- Ham-handedly provide subjective hatred toward ED for not reciprocating said affection; and
- Ingest digital hemlock before "signing off" in some overly dramatic, this-is-supposed-to-hurt-you-more-than-it-hurts-me fashion.

If you were happy with your mods before, why wouldn't you be happy now? What the hell kind of logic is that? Seriously, this one isn't making sense to me. I'm not trying to attack you. It'll take a total of maybe 5-10 rolls to max a legacy grade 5 mod if you feel compelled to do it. Add an extra margin of 2 or 3 for those edge cases, but still. That leaves less time chasing a good enough roll and more time playing. Note: Good enough =/= maxed.

You're acknowledging that you're not forced to re roll, but then complaining that that isn't good enough either. What would be good enough then? Please, any suggestions? I thought the current system was one of the best compromises.

Finally, you mention you're done anyway. Well, good on you for giving them feedback on why you're quitting. However, if you're adverse to wasting time, youve probably been doing it longer than you think. If a small thing like engineers is making you quit the game, you didn't like the whole game enough anymore anyway. Let's face it, that's a sensible conslusion right?

Maybe off topic but it's just, many people are claiming that one thing has killed the game for them. No matter if it's engineers, C&P, whatever. However, I bet that most of them were pinning their hopes on 3.0. I believe all of those people had already pretty much left the game, they just wanted to make sure 3.0 wasn't a miracle cure. When it wasn't, they blame the one thing they hate the most.

It's fine to leave a game behind. Just be honest with yourself and everyone else. Truly think on why you're done. It's likely more than one thing. Tunnel vision on part of gamers and devs alike is why no game can ever be improved like it really needs to.

Anyways, fly safe. o7

Hope you find something that feels worthwhile to play. Or maybe a break will enable further enjoyment of Elite.

P.S. No, I won't TL;DR this post. Half of you have spreadsheets more comprehensive than this anyway.
