Ok FDev, we need to talk.

That is a great question, I just didn't think it was in the scope of my OP. Would have made it even more TL;DR.

I would like to clarify that I didn't mean that question in a condescending manner. I believe that if the current system is untenable by one's standards, they've probably got an idea of what would be acceptable. I wonder if most others would like it as well is all. Some unexpected breakthroughs have come from strange places. o7

I do agree with the OP on some points, for the first time in 3 years, I logged in last night and after 5 minutes of staring at the screen, logged back out. Couldn't think of anything that I could be bothered to do that wasn't going to be a long old job. Later I logged back in to have another go, found a war I could be interested in and got kicked to desktop trying to open the galaxy map. I was so down, I even (and I am kicking myself for this one, believe me!) went and looked up when the space sim joke that is Star Citizen may possibly be available before laughing at my silliness and playing MechWarrior for god's sake!

OP, to me the problem is the MMO mentality coming from the WOWs, GW2s, ESOs etc. Everything has to have a reward! And not just that, time invested needs to have a proportional equal reward. XP per hour, credits per hour, rank per hour everything needs to be optimized. Because we saw tutorials on youtube about something on our favorite MMO, that some dude has optimized our precious time so we can maximize our rewards per time spent. Crazy!

Guys, save that for your real life work!

Enjoy your time playing the game, even if you dont have a reward, because the reward is playing the game itself.

I dont need to have every ship in Elite to have fun. My ships dont need to be all max engineered so i can have fun. I own several ships in this game, including T9, T10, Conda, etc. Im playing this thing since release, i dont have billions, and only a few of my modules here and there are G5 engineered, a few G3 and G4 and most arent even engineered at all.

Buff this, nerf that, dont nerf that, stuff per hour its all talk from the crap MMOs, that frankly i'm also fed up with them. Elite is different, at least i hope it keeps that way.

I get that you feel let down or whatever, but placing blame on anyone is silly.

You have, by your own estimates, roughly 3700 hours playing this game.

Here's a thought: you're tired of playing it because you have dedicated a whopping 23% of waking hours (assuming you average 6 hours a night and have played since day one release on xbox).

Almost a full quarter of your waking life has been playing this game, for over two years, and you have the idea that you should blame someone for wasting your precious time?? Sorry, but you have been able to afford 23% of your life to playing a game, changes in that game are not going to create a delta in your "hours wasted" meter.

I must admit, I do find it a bit bizarre and perhaps naive when people complain about getting bored or fed up with a game they've been playing for 1000s of hours. Sooner or later you will get bored of any game or activity, it's perfectly natural. Variety is the spice of life. I play multiple games (and indulge other hobbies) and go through phases of playing ED intensely then taking a break from it for a while. Otherwise I might have burned out by now as well.

From another perspective, the amount of time you've spent playing this game is equal to 75% of the hours for a full time job over the same time period.

Never been my nature. I bounce around until I find something I really like and then I focus on it almost exclusively.

I agree with you.
I play this game, or any other game, to have fun, fun means something else for each individual though.
ED still provides me with enough fun to keep playing it,........but.
When they introduce new features or content but force me to do very unfunny things like grinding then things change.
Force people to do things they don't like for to long and people stop playing altogether.

You've never gotten bored of any game or activity in your life? Sorry, I honestly don't believe you. And clearly you've just hit a brick wall with ED. I mean, were you expecting to play it non-stop for the rest of your life?

All the people clogging up the thread not contributing and just saying things like “ok, bye”, you need to realise you’re not being the better man by commenting, even worse, you sound really childish and school playground-y.

Hold up. OP gets to enjoy some catharsis from venting his nonsense and that's ok, but when we vent by responding with indifference, it's childish?

I didn't say that. But even in the times of bordem I didn't view them as a waste of time. There is a difference.

You had a kid. I hear those take a lot of effort and time. Not really a mystery why Elite (or gaming in general) might not work for you anymore.

Yet, somehow, you felt the need to write a massively narcissistic ‘Dear John’ letter to Frontier. Haha.
