Assuming it is the head only, no body customization (yet).... otherwise, i'm recalling fond times in the character customization screen in Dead or Alive Beach Volleyball 2.... just sayin'
Though I assume arms and shoulder colors are from a custom skin (makes me think of Beluga's Expedition pack)

That interior looks too "Imperial" to be an eagle, I'm not around the game or I would look better at it.
I don't think so. The eagle has a longish corridor behind the seat. This looks like some kind of dome. Maybe a new fighter model, or new ship, or maybe a view to customize your commander.
I just want a beer belly option, so I can look down and actually believe it's me.

I suspect that me watching an Elite: Dangerous livestream on my iPad at the restaurant would go down about as well as a Sag A* Buckyball Run on a Wedding Anniversary!
It didn't take much to turn that frown upside down!

Maybe the Imperial Eagle? lol I would put money on it.
Definitely an imperial eagle, the chair is just eclipsing the walkway. the top canopy matches both the eagles design, 1:1

Question: has it been necessary to redesign any of the cockpits as a result of implementing the character creator, the new camera or multicrew, or were the cockpit designs a constraint on what you could implement?

I think that something as basic as the character being able to sit on the seat might be a constraint on the range of body types, or that new seats might be needed, as well as having cockpit/flight deck furniture that allows the characters to move around and see all the screens they need to (although one of my favourite scenes in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom was Short Round driving a getaway car with wooden blocks tied to his feet so that he could reach the pedals ...).

That was my first thought, it looks the part. I'm not near the game to investigate though and google is not helping me either.
Yeah, after looking at the cockpit in VR I think the perspective is playing tricks with me. Def an eagle of some kind.

I hope it's not just a commander selfie camera, but a full replacement for the exterior debug camera. It has to be, there is no way Frontier would troll us that badly. No Way!!! [hotas]
I'm looking more forward to the camera than multicrew, LOL!!
