Planet Zoo 2 Speculation and ideas

Here's an interesting thought: What 5 birds requiring aviary mechanics would be best to be in a PZ2 base game?

I'd go with:
  • A Macaw Species
  • An Eagle - I'd do Crested Caracara
  • Bird of Paradise
  • Kookaburra
  • Nicobar Pigeon
To be honest i think they would keep the heavy hitters like macaw, snowy owl and bald eagle to headline the dlcs.

So i think the base game would have something like african gray parrot and golden eagle

Zoo Tycoon 1 and 2 had African subspecies of leopard. 1 had one more subspecies in black. 2's only leopard was black.
zoo tycoon 1 is tricky but there is just as much evidence that its just a generalised leopard.
Zoo tycoon 2 however is confirmed to be a species level addition based on its classification just a melanistic version
It was still the African leopard. Remember thay Zoo Tycoon 1 also had white Bengal tigers as a separate entry in the animal adoption menu
yes it indeed did, it also had magnet the polar bear as its own animal

A nitpick would be having both Grizzly Bear and EBB is a bit redundant. I think a Seal/Sea Lion would be a stronger choice for base game. Or if you want to stick with a bear species, Polar Bear.
Yes I agree, but at the same time PZ1 did this a lot with Grizzly bear - HBB, Bengal & Siberian Tiger, Both tortoises, springbok & the gazelle etc.

They need some heavy hitters to sell the base game tho, mainly if they are going to leave out quite a few animals that we have right now. If the basegame flops to hard then DLC's aren't as effective (as they probably also realised now with PC2). I think Macaws would be a lock, just like the lion, elephant & giraffe are with the normal basegame.

Idk i think the aviary mechanic as a whole would be enough to sell it for people. Is it gonna be much of a difference if the aviary parrot in question is the macaw or some other species? Maybe, but not that much i think

For base game i would say:

1. A macaw or parrot species (maybe scarlet macaw for base game) or a toucan if leaving the parrots for DLCs.
2. An eagle or raptor (maybe a condor)
3. An australian bird (either budgies or lorikeets... the other one can come in DLC along with Kookaburra)
4. An owl (barn or eurasian eagle owl or snowy owl... depends on the DLCs)
5. Hummingbirds

Mainly for general audience I think macaws over some random parrot is gonna matter a whole lot and they can't really afford to play too many risks with this game.

But who knows, maybe you are right. Us zoo nerds will definitely still get it :p

Well, in Zoo Tycoon 1 and 2, locations and biomes/terrains of every animals were shown.

At least an otter, horse, caiman, crane, duck and pelican should definitely be there on release. On the contrary, some previous base game animals among the likes of orangutan, bonobo or okapi may become DLC. They can always add more penguins, lemurs, deer and others with many subspecies as pack fillers, while it feels like they've covered too many bears, canids and felids in PZ1 with few remaining as potential novelty for PZ2.

As for the free flying birds, a macaw (I'd say the hyacinth or green one, as scarlet just screams DLC headliner), a toucan, an owl, a cockatoo and an eagle/condor just make the most sense, but there definitely would be more than 5 whether they're restricted to an aviary feature or are just regular animals.

animals like the bonobo are the reason I dont want any animals cut because literally no one wants it over the chimp and if its not in the base game has very little chance of being a dlc because of how clone like and generally unwanted it is.

Exactly this. I hate the fact we’re trying to be ok with cuts. I know it’s near unrealistic to expect every animal back but we shouldn’t be ok with it. I want variety when I make my zoos. “Clones” are important guys. I don’t want to make the same zoo over and over again

Would you want said hummingbirds in an exhibit format, or more of a freeform build? Just curious
  1. Scarlet Macaw
  2. Budgies
  3. Bald Eagle
  4. Toco Toucan or Great Hornbill
  5. Snowy Owl
  6. Honorable Mention: Laughing Kookaburra
Snowy Owls are just so amazing. Easily my most looked-forward-to raptor.

For PlanZo 2, my ideal base game roster would feature several key animals worldwide, but focusing primarily on Africa.
So, let's choose the starting 40 habitat animals:
  1. African lion
  2. African leopard
  3. Plains zebra
  4. Blue wildebeest
  5. Southern white rhinoceros
  6. Reticulated giraffe
  7. Thomson's gazelle
  8. Nyala
  9. Sable antelope
  10. Common warthog
  11. Common ostrich
  12. African elephant
  13. Spotted hyena
  14. Greater flamingo
  15. Bongo
  16. Okapi
  17. Chimpanzee
  18. Lowland gorilla
  19. Mandrill
  20. Ring-tailed lemur
  21. Black-and-white ruffed lemur
  22. Red ruffed lemur
  23. Red kangaroo
  24. Saltwater crocodile
  25. Grizzly bear
  26. American bison
  27. Northwestern wolf
  28. Bighorn sheep
  29. Jaguar
  30. Giant panda
  31. Red panda
  32. Sumatran tiger
  33. Siberian tiger
  34. Bornean orangutan
  35. Asian black bear
  36. Japanese macaque
  37. Indian peafowl
  38. Asian elephant
  39. Red deer
  40. European brown bear
Now, roughly every continent has some representation. DLCs will feature a few other heavy hitters and fill out the spaces in between, like oddballs and whatnot
The biggest mistake they could make would be over-delivering on Africa yet again at the expense of the rest of the world.

Honestly considering how long I wanted a second flamingo, I also wouldn’t want to lose our second “chimp”.
