Please don't nerf the new mining

They will. Just enjoy the gold rush while the gold rush is on.

I'm kind of looking forward to the epic levels of salt that will be spilled out onto the forums when it happens.

Doesn't appear to be an issue with other players.

If you're concerned with a profession paying too much, don't do it? No one is forcing you.

Besides, you can't seriously be concerned about running costs when fuel is next to free in this game. This game hasn't been about running costs for years now.

For me it isn't the concern that folks are making money. As I said, enjoy the gold rush while the gold rush is on.

But you have to admit that both the prices and availability of these commodities is out of hand, and makes little sense in regard to the rest of the game.

These gems either need to be (a) more scarce, or (b) worth less. Simple as that.

I can see base prices for these commodities being boom type prices, i.e. 280k at peak demand in a thriving economy. But you have folks turning cans of these over by the thousands and tens of thousands, and the prices are astronomical compared to the rest of the commodities market.

Like I said. Enjoy the gold rush while the gold rush is on, but anyone with an honest bone in their body knows deep down inside that this requires a correction.

We already have players who think core rocks are too rare to find now. And as for worth less, they should be motherlodes (FD's description of rewards, not mine). FD had to raise the rewards when it became clear during Beta that players weren't interested in core mining if their time and hardpoint sacrifices wasn't going to be rewarded, compared to strip mining.

History has shown us what happens when FD 'correct' things. The rewards for Smuggling got 'corrected' and as a profession its been dead ever since.

Sure, reduce the rewards in Boom/Investment system a bit, but I'm worried FD will go too far and kill Mining when its in the best state its been in for 4+ years.

Really?

I should pay more attention and look closer.

Well it makes sense - prior to 3.3 folks never had any reason to go anywhere but pristine, so naturally they are going to focus on them now, even though with core mining it doesn't seem to be necessary.

I went too a bunch if non-Pristine rings and barely found any core asteroids. They will all have hitspots but the makeup is different. The Non Pristine rings had a lot of normal minable asteroids with stuff like low Temp diamonds but not very many cores.

Good to know. I haven't fully tested it, so can't speak with authority on the matter.

What's currently the most valuable ore to mine?

I find myself rather low on credits right now and could do with a reasonable boost so I don't run into issues with rebuys in the future.

From my tests : I can crack 5 nuggets / h with a nimble python. A nugget is 15t. So 75t/h.

So : 650T is about 8h40. Factoring Cutter abysmall agility, maybe 10h. So 100M/h.

So. It's in the passenger mission bonzana range, but more involved gameplay and better vistas :)

So, roughly two weeks for your average gamer with a daily hour. Two weeks of doing nothing but doing the same activity.

Seems fine to me.

OK, you make a point - I have more free time than most, and forget that some get very limited play time.

whats missing there is context and how long it took to gather said materials, i mean filling a cutter with the highest priced commodity and showing the simple math on screen is not really enough to get the hammer out
The only nerf it needs is the level of piracy.

If you have a Cutter with 250 million in jewels, you should be expecting a Benny Hill style chase to the station.

I "investigated" a bit.

From what I can tell, it must be the combination of investment+piracy states.

The economy has no impact (tried different econs in investment+liberty => 770K for Opals).
The only thing that is unique to this system is the new piracy state + investment state.

There was indeed a void opal hotspot where I'm at but no opals in it?

What am I doing wrong?

I just got more diamonds and 2 other things.

I'd offer to wing up and show you, but I'm out exploring the Guardians (thank jesus for the codex).

Keep at it. Switch hot spots if you have to.

...you have multicrew capability by any chance?

Can you see it now? A CZ-style spec ops wing interdiction which instantly attacks? I can smell the salty forum tears already....

Just wait for the price nerf, because it's coming. Plenty of salt to be had then.

Though some uber NPC gem hunting pirates would be pretty comical.
