Python Mk II & Updates To The Gamestore

So much controversy... If you like the game, give the devs some money to keep the lights on. Heck, if it works out good, they might even start giving us the stuff we ask for! Ship interiors!?! I wouldn't mind kicking in a little bit for the special features we really want that don't bring much value to the game but increase the immersion.

If only!
Even with just one gun, but Huge!

(I can picture it: a massive gun with a little ship strapped to it. When you retract the hardpoint, the ship disappears inside the gun)
But it comes with a few caveats:
1. Must be painted red for best performance.
2. It won't work unless you really believe it will work.
3. You must yell "WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH!!!" to deploy the hardpoint.

"In addition, we will also be making some balancing changes to Engineering"

They haven't said in what direction, but if they decrease the grind then what's the point of pre-engineered ships in the shop. Sounds like they would increase the grind to make the shop versions more appealing.

Will just have to wait to see if the ships are pre-engineered I guess.
I’m hoping that includes suit and personal weapon engineering … those have been VERY hard (read: impossible) for me to progress very far with due to a total lack of reliable means to acquire the materials required in anything approaching a reasonable time.

Heck, maybe they’ll start selling those too …

If the ‘official launch date’ for P2 is 7 August then no PP2 until August at the earliest?
The news article says "coming months" plural for continuing to talk about it, so I certainly wouldn't expect it before July.

I expect if Frontier did say that the Python was coming before PP2 - and I can't find that right now - they'd count May as the release date for it anyway.

Indeed they said Python Mk2 is coming between U18 and U19, and U19 is slated for the summer - it was during the streams, think it was the second stream, where Zack was invited.
And yes, they may count 7 May as the release date, and it may also mean that august maybe the month for U19 - PP2.0

Don't care, is Elite their only source of income? I already bought the game, that's enough support.
If that's how you feel, then stop complaining about not getting everything for nothing. This is probably the only live service game that I've played that doesn't have an in game source of revenue generation other than optional virtual currency. In fact, I'm surprised they accomplished all of this without it! For those of us that truly LOVE this game, this is a non issue. If they started another kickstarter to add even more features to this game, would you take part? I bet you'd be the first to speak up when you don't get the benefits from it though... you're not that entitled dude, none of us are.

LoL
Like that will change anything. Might as well cry into the void that we call space

Poor mods. I hope their shadow ban button works well today
How would that work?
Another poor, childish display of lack of maturity?
The previous livestream showed how poorly some elements of the ED player base can behave already.
The more likely outcome would be a clamp down on the chat, not a change of their business choices.
Only the wallets will have an effect on that.

As I mentioned in another thread, the new feature will allow us to build zoos and theme parks in ED (on aptly named planets). 🤭
Voicing the displeasure definitely helps. And it's a reality-check on the PR team suddenly being asked why the community's been spamming the chat with messages about not liking the new thing someone's thought up. It might not do anything, but hey... If everyone was such a doomer about it and didn't voice the displeasure, nobody would know you're displeased with the way companies are going and you'd have ZERO chance of them re-thinking the decisions. I already made the comparison to some of the f2p game developers for legal issues changing the purchased content might bring and there.... complaining at the devs about the new monetization "feature" sometimes works. So, might as well try at least.

This is the exact sort of mindset which blocks any kind of negative feedback to the devs who will be stuck in an echochamber where any dissent is disappeared, inevitably leading to some feature which is actively detrimental getting in. Hitting the wallets doesn't really help because it's not like you can refund a game after stupid amounts of game-time put in. And you've already paid for it. And with FDEV? This had WORKED before. See FCs and their upkeep.

Gross. This is pretty much the defnition of p2w, and the defenders sound exactly like SC fans.
Overreact much? To clarify, I'm not happy about it but to compare Frontier to CIG is the hyperbolic to the extreme.

No, this is not what they have to do, this is what they chose to do.
That's not for you or I to say one way or the other. I agree with you that this isn't great news. I am not keen on this but if the outlay of development vs return does not favor further expansions or just treading water then decisions need to be made accordingly. Not doing this and saying that Elite's development has come to its end would also be another option they could choose, no? Perhaps you could step up as an angel investor and give Frontier the money needed to fund all the dreams.txt Elite players also have for the game?

And there is zero word on any meaningful expansion whatsoever. P2W, FOMO, skip-the-grind-for-only-$12 or whatever scummy tactics are always an option. Making quality expansions and selling them to your customers is how a reputable game studio works. This is just sleazy.
That's a fair point, which is why I said I will wait and see. The other aspect that I mentioned is if there are people purchasing copies of the game to engineer profiles to then sell on, then ultimately what difference does it make if Frontier, having possibly and plausibly trying to prevent it but failing, then just deciding, based on their current financial position that there's no stopping it and that money would be better in their pockets? Maybe some of those who might moan the loudest are possibly also the ones seeing their little side gig going down the toilet..

That is a very long way to say you don't think Frontier makes a lot of money from its other projects, and... do you even have a source on that, or do you just feel the need to defend a corporation that doesn't care about you?

Sure, but that changes the spin. That pretty much locks in the concept that they're keeping the game tedious to drive people to spend more.

I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt that it's just poor planning, not malice.
That is the fear, I fully agree, but we will have to see how that goes. Frontier have sold early access as a premium before, though not for something like a new ship, to be fair. However, the prebuilds definitely are skating on p2w ice and we will have to wait and see how far they want to push that down the road.

I'm a software engineer of 20+ years seniority, I know what kind of resources go into projects like this. You on the other hand, probably have no clue how the industry works or how much effort and planning is required. To have an IP last more than 10 years is triumph in and of itself. This specific one is obviously being regarded as not sustainable in its current state. This is an attempt, by Frontier Developments, to keep giving you (the players) what you want and keep supporting the cost of keeping the servers and developers working. I just don't understand how we all cant see this... I will support this game for the next 10 years if I can.

Can I point out how many "let us skip X for ARX" posts in the suggestions forum we've had in the past? Looks like Frontier listened to "the community".

Playing on players' FOMO is... Well, you can do that if you have to. It will be interesting how this staggered launch will be integrated into the lore and story. Other than that, I will withold my judgement until we actually know how all this will be implemented in detail.

As for " voicing your displeasure in today's stream's chat"... How do you tell the difference? The ED community always behaves like a bunch of spoiled brats in stream chat.
