They're not selling frag mambas or meta FDLs. They're selling a laser mining T6 and a semi stock AX chief. Neither of which is going to threaten anything in open.

You have had two expansions so far, despite the claims made by some the game isn’t dead yet so it is still possible for you to come out ahead as further expansions are released. Of course it is also possible that an asteroid will destroy the world in which case you will have lost out on your speculative investment.
Can you please elaborate on how "buying a pre-engineered ship without all the legwork" killed Open Play?
I've been thinking about the 'early access' Python Mk II. 16000+ arx is a lot to just get access to the ship early. I looked at the original announcement and it doesn't mention a paintjob and a ship kit that the other pre built ships will have included in their cost.
Is that right?
Everyone has loads of credits, but the Arx took me a long time to accrue. So I feel that FDev should include a paintjob and ship kit with the ARX Python II to add value. Lets face it 3 months later there will be Python II's everywhere that were just bought for credits.

Python Mk2 is not a ready build - take and fly, but just an early access ship, I think it will be completely without modules and the main modules will be E class, like the usual ships.
And by the way it is not fact that it will be better than Krait Mk2 or FDL.
Thats what I'm assuming and also what makes it a worse value proposition. I bet later on that FDev add a pre build Python II to the webstore with the extras such as the shipkit and paintjob for Arx.
I think you're missing the point. Buying this stuff with accrued ARX doesn't help them, you're meant to buy ARX to top up to help with funding. Naturally they're going to level the content towards the monetary value. I think it works at about £10 for early access, which is up to everyone to work out if that's reasonable to them or not.

This already creates a few questions. Is the 16250 ARX unlock a separate item from the prebuilt package, or does it mean the prebuilt package ? If it is just the unlock, how much will the prebuilt package cost ? Or the other prebuilt ship packages ?

That's an interesting point.
In fact, they needed to make ARX2.0, but on the other hand, it can be equalized somehow, people need to start spending their accumulated ARXs, but it's not clear what for.
The problem with Arx 2.0 is what do they do with the current Arx after all while some have a stockpile accumulated via in game activities others will have bought the larger packages of Arx for cash in addition to the free ones.

Logically, and more importantly truthfully, this is described, as to my way of thinking, that the Python MK 2 (Variant) will cost 16250 ARX AND comes equipped with the new paint job AND a new ship kit, to be launched as Early Access on the 7th of May. Ship, Kit, Paintjob and as of yet unknown module stats.
Any other meaning in the recently disclosed statement would be a case of 'Smoke and Mirrors' imho. If this proves to be the latter then I would be kind of annoyed.
I just look at the statement given overall, if it proves to be different to that then either Frontier is deliberately clouding the issue (for whatever reason) or they need to proof read what they initially state, and word the statement so no misinterpretation is possible.
As I've said, this is my (personal) opinion, and I personally wouldn't think Frontier are being vague. What you see is what you get.

lets be honest here, an asteroid destroying the planet is more likely than us seeing a full fledged expansion at this point. they couldn't even get the last one done properly
It will make Open like World of Tanks is, where a new player will come in and be able to buy a fully engineered, OP ship and seal club the hell out of just about anybody, especially other newcomers that can't afford to do that or people that have been playing a while and haven't made it that far yet.
It's blatant pay to win mechanics. Once people figure that out, they'll never set foot in open again. It's bad enough as it is, which is why you have Open players on here crying every single day about forcing people to play in Open because they have nobody to seal club, but this effectively destroys it forever once word gets out.

Open was dead since the day one, made so by the griefers. In fully engineered OP ships intended only to cause grief and molest newbies, unpunished. That's why Open never ever took off. As luck would have it I was sending an ASP back to the bubble from my Expo FC to pick up an SCO, a 600kls trip map a WW does not do it for me, so I thought it was worth the time, + I wanted to get some TITAN Decals and a few other bits and bobs, Had to do a scratch AX Krait MKII build, as recalling the one I had would take 51Hrs + 245mil credits, now that really is laughable "NOT".
Anyhow half way back the Python news broke, (More goodies to get whilst back), then the pre-Builds, then the Non-Odyssey owners will be able access ship variants from the store for ARX, (A wordy Gaff IMHO), That lead some of those poor souls, playing that festering rotting Legacy Corpse, would get some new toys, Nope Dead is Dead, R.I.P
My bubble was burst when the penny dropped that I would have to pay to get the Python MKII (My third CMDR is an HORIZON only player, and I would have kept it that way) but no, after doing more reading I decided the best thing to do (I so want all the new Ships, "Panther" fat chance) was to forget about the Pre-built Python option, which is likely to be as bad the others, plus having to pay for every other variant release, was just upgrade to ODYSSEY, so I did, as luck would have it because my main CMDR has ODYSSEY, the switch over was as good as instant, The August 7 wait is no big deal to me, It will take sometime to do minimal on foot upgrades, Expo only.
Not going to...................Meh, fed up typing.

Open is the most popular gamemode. I'm assuming that when you say its "dead" you are referring to the lack of non-griefing interactions, but that is caused by the games design, not the griefers themselves.
When piracy is worthless due to the way cargo is priced, when player bounty hunting is actively disincentivised by limiting the payout, when the bubble is far bigger than it needs to be and there are no good in game tools for anyone to find each other cooperatively...all that's left is griefing, which needs no mechanical support.

That would be something to experience in this game, not in the real world of course.
Some planets in the major inhabited systems, say Sol for instance or Achenar being hit by large asteroids, not just a statement on Galnet but including the asteroid gradually or rapidly entering the System, graphical effects in real time, and after effects with all the repercussions this would have on balance's of power and CG aid etc. for the populations.
We've had gradual incursions by the Thargoids ( for a rough example) in a broadly similar manner in some Systems, why not take that to a more 'cosmic' situation.
Any Cmdr.'s foolish enough to be landed in the immediate area of the actual time of the impact.... back to the rebuy screen!

I think it's on record from Frontier that more commanders play in open than in solo or group.
