Ships Python Owners' Thread

I just got a Python... I only had 50 million but I couldn't wait, so I sold my Asp miner in one of the discount systems and outfitted a cheap Python miner that still ridiculously outperforms it. Miners don't need to be A-Rated, and 3 large pulse lasers kills the inevitable NPC interdictors pretty quickly.

I've upgraded it a little since then, using the profits from mining, but it's still relatively cheap. And if I want to take a break and do some missions, I don't really need to refit.

You don't need to be A-rated to take her to a res either ;) and will proberly be the fastest way to get her A rated, I still run a b7 power plant, will prob never upgrade as it's just not needed for my setup, a c6 bi weave isn't hugely expensive and d rated everything else will serve well enough providing you play it safe, 1beam laser is advisable and a couple SCB an you're good to go! Enjoy your new toy :D

A rating will give you better heat management which is pretty useful on the Python, also a slightly better jump range as its lighter. I'd say that's worth considering.

Got my Python a few weeks ago after returning from my SagA* run on my Asp.

It's everything I've looked for, easily being respecced from a combat ship, to trading, to mining. It has one more large hardpoint than the fearsome Vulture, plus a couple mediums I can experiment between cannons, multicannons or missiles. And for mining, the loss of a single medium hardpoint to the mining laser is barely significant.

The Python is the ultimate trading ship. Well-armed, and unlike the T9, is able to trade at outposts. Tonight I landed a trading mission for almost 1 mil, that went to an outpost. Even a T7 would not have been able to pull it off. For trading missions, accept no substitutes.

The downside is the cost and, more importantly, the rebuy if you die. So I've learned the hard way to go 4 pips to ENG and #peaceout for any inderdiction by a Vulture or above. Simply not worth the risk. But the good news is, if you are able to buy a Python, also buying a Vulture is trivial at that point. Just swap it out when needed. (And I also have a Cobra I reserve for planetary surfaces.)

My favorite setup for RESs
http://coriolis.io/outfit/python/16...96j2f.AwRj4yrUg===.Aw18eQ==?bn=Python Current

I set it up so the weight of the ship is only slightly over half of the thruster's "optimal mass" for closest to perfect speed and handling. You could remove the hull reinforcements but you wouldn't be gaining any more speed or agility doing so, so they are there for the fact that they don't hurt anything. I spent a long time working this out. Hardpoints deployed gives me exactly 99.9% power use. The weapons are my personal preference after trying many different setups. They can be changed but you might have to downgrade some of the modules.

Sensors, kill warrant scanner, and a few other things are A rated but don't NEED to be, I like them A rated to better locate ships from longer distances and scan them sooner/easier.

So I have always wanted the Python as it was my go-to ship in previous versions of Elite.

One question, can I use it for PVE combat?

The Python is pretty awesome. I've been using mine for mining (prefer the smaller ships for combat, but might change my mind). The short jump range and slow top speed is annoying, but I got a nice red paint job which helped a lot. Because red is the fastest there is.

:D S

That looks more like a multi setup, You still have things you could loose for optimal res setup, don't need cargo or discovery scanner, don't need fuel scoop or FSD interdictor. I run 2x 6a SCB EVERYTHING else hull reenforcement, weight is still optimal at around half, need to keep a SCB off and only run a B powerplant at 27.5capacity instead if 30 but my setup is almost 30 with weapons drawn, this halfs rebuy not that I've had too yet, use a large beam 2xturreted pulse and 2multi cannons along with 2shield boosters 3.5km range Kws and chaff incase things get hairy, I'm with ya on the scanner ranges! a must I'm my opinion! I leave it at my res so don't need anything but a full combat setup, trade in an Annie when I'm bored as it has sick range!

Yeah it is really a multipurpose/combat setup.
*Also I used turreted pulses on the smaller hardpoints for quite some time and they were nice against small ships but I grew tired of them and I wanted more on demand pewpew without draining wep capacitor too fast.

I must admit they are good fly swatters but I'm tempted to swap them out as I keep going till I get a big ship spawn anyway, then it's only the wings that may have a few cobras etc of which I don't have too much trouble staying on target anyhow so a lot of potential dps against the main targets going to waste, I'm sure the beam does more than the other two pulse to hull, but having said that if I want almost anything else there I gota upgrade PP or downgrade SCB, both of which I'm reluctant to do :/ hoping the battle conda out performs it when I have the funds but with the handling of the conda at the mo it makes the python feel like a sidey :D

Absolutely! Just beware that this is a PVE only ship. Against most players you will find the Python does not stand a chance.

Yeah I tend to stay clear of PvP so that's not a big consideration right now. Following the responses here and the windfall from the last CG I've now joined the python owner's club. Not enough cash to a rate yet, so will have to work up to that. So far, though, I like the feel. It's more responsive than I expected, even feels less laggy than the asp.

I find it an excellent mission runner. Sometimes there are missions that can only be done in the Python and those can be quite proffitable. It's also great for Haz Rez hunting. This is what my current one is looking like atm and it works beautifully:

The fixed beam and the railgun work beautifully together when you just have to pound something hard (like the shields on an anaconda or that pesky rasp that's railing you).
Edit: I tend to avoid using it in CGs though on account of gankers and pirates. For that I'll either go with a Cobra or Clipper on account that there's not much can catch either of those.

What's the best way of keeping a python cool? Finding temps increase quickly when scooping unlike my other ships.

Thanks.

All Faulcon DeLacy ships seem to be horrible at cooling. Both my Anaconda and Python heat up immensely while scooping. I honestly just figure out what the max rate is and sit a distance from the sun that cuts it in half for example an A5 fuel scoop does 577g/s, I just sit around 350-400g/s away and my heat doesn't go up.

Think that's hot? Try an FAS.
