Ships Python Owners' Thread

Quick question:

I got a Python. Bare minimum module-wise. I was thinking about first buying Class C modules so that it can actually do stuff and then gradually refitting it like this: https://coriolis.io/outfit/python/0...Iw18eQ==.MwBhEYy6egWATGIA?bn=Python Multirole
Is that a reasonable build?

For combat, I would highly recommend swapping the 6D thrusters and 6A shields for 6A thrusters and biweave shields. You can make up the power difference by swapping the A-class KWS for a B. Personally, I think the increased agility (even ignoring the faster recharge) more than makes up for the shield loss.

I recently changed my Python loadout for mining: http://www.edshipyard.com/#/L=705,4...,2-B69Y7_6uB69Y8I,7Ue0AA0AA5Vk50U0bg05U05U1IM

Yeah, the large beam turrets together cost more than the stock ship itself, but oh my are they deadly. Against smaller pirates I don't even move. I just activate the turrets and watch them melt. :D

I'd never take a KWS above C. The power draw just escalates so quickly, even if I have the spare power I feel silly for wasting all of it on 0.5-1km more KWS range. 3k is weapon range anyway. :)

This is variation of my current pre 2.1 build (in light of the new NPC's I may have to revise it though! ;)), it's capable of some light BH, cargo missions/trading, casual mining (needs more collectors) and some exploring as you go.

Most of the materials and data for Engineers is easy enough to collect through mining and salvage and the improvements can be substantial, with drone collectors this build should make collection a bit less painless.

Hey Ceekay, where can I download that Coriolis Beta you're using?. I'm impressed with that shield recharge time option it provides.

No idea m8 I saw someone else using it on the forum and couldn't find it so I saved the page url with one of my ships in it and then imported the rest, first do a backup of your builds and a detailed export (open settings and copy - paste the blue highlighted text separately into notepad and save the two files).

Then import the data into the open page below and all your builds will be in the Beta version then use it to open Coriolis and not the older link, if you've a lot of builds you should backup the data as a browser change or cleanup will delete the data.

Worked a treat, thanks for the walkthrough.

Don't have beta access, but have seen on youtube how engineer can enhance its engines. Definitely excited to have more maneuverability and if I have to choose one ship to tune, it would be definitely a phyton. Guess this club with 2.1/1.6 might increase even more :)

One thing I really like is that the Python is one of those ships that has a max power plant way in excess of what it actually needs. This means all those engi upgrades that add additional power draw won't even hurt this ship at all. Unlike, say, a Diamondback Explorer or Vulture.

Is it normal that i get outmanoeuvred by an Anaconda? This is really getting on my nerves, the 6/10 rating is fake, more like 1/10. This happens even with 6A Thrusters..

FA toggle and keep it in the blue. Pip management helps. I use medium burst turrets with 2 large PA's and a large gimbaled burst laser.

You're a small tank, turrets provide pressure and pester shields. Line up the PA's and the large burst laser is for the small stuff. Stick with it and you'll have some fun.

Hi Guys,

I noticed one interesting thing on nose of my Python. Please see the attached picture (sorry got to zip it, getting "invalid file error" for some reason). But is says "SER. 05-21" Do you all have the same on yours? I'm asking because I actually both in on 21st May. Would like to know if frontier really got that detail, or it is just coincidence and decal. Thank you.

With Horizons for Xbone around the corner, I kinda want a Python I can go exploring in. Yeah.. I know other ships would do the job better.. But I've kinda grown fond on my Python and would like to live out of her for awhile without worrying about staying in the bubble.

So this is what I was thinking of refitting to:

http://coriolis.io/outfit/python/03...22f2i.Iw1+gDBxA===.Aw18eQ==?bn=Amity's Survey

Thoughts? Tips?

PS: Probably more Horizons related, but wondering why someone would want more than one SRV, and if you guys recommend flying something cheaper/lighter in atmo till I get used to planetary gravity, or if it's just not a big deal.

way too many fuel tanks... you will need max one extra, eve that is not really necessary, 3A power plant will be better, and watch out for thrusters, you might have troubles with high G planets... More SRVs are better for when you blow it up, you have another spare, but this is only reason... If you will be careful smaller hangar with one vehicle is better

That perfectly answers my horizons questions, I will re-think this build. Thanks!

When you blow up an SRV are you returned to the ship or is your ship AND you returned to your last dock?

you are returned to your ship, at the moment extra SRV is only as spare, later with multiplayer you should be able to have up to 3 additional friends...

That's a very good advice! I nearly lost my brand new Python (fairly low specced for now, I use it as an armed trader) as I accepted a last surface mission (never do that when you decided you called it a night already :)) because of the nice payout!

I didn't check the planet's properties before accepting, and once there I found to my dismay that there was no way I could land there with my stock thrusters, my Python was just sinking like a brick. The last attempt made me hit the surface and I escaped it with 26% hull remaining and a nice fine for abandoning the mission! Too happy I didn't go for max cargo and kept my class 5 shields as I like to fight my way out of interdictions.

The problem with too many fuel tanks is the false sense of security it brings. You do have a lot of fuel, but you eventually need to refuel. And even with a class 6 fuel scoop, sitting in a star's corona for the time it takes to refill to full will cook your ship like a steel hot dog. I do agree with an extra 8 or 16T, mind you. Python is considerably heavier than an Asp.

If you want to play it safe, make sure to fly up or down a few hundred light years before moving forward. NEVER EVER travel along the galactic plane. That's no man's land and you'll find A LOT of unscoopables in your travels.

Here's a build I just threw together (25LY with full tanks but no cargo)

http://coriolis.io/outfit/python/04A6D5A4D6D6D5C-----02---3e13v20u0448f32i2f.Iw18eQ==.Aw1+gjM1kA==

Personally, I'd go with a nice fat SRV bay. Depending on how often you travel down to the surface to explore, gambling on a single SRV when you're out for weeks or months is no bueno.
