Ships Python Owners' Thread

I'm not a huge turret fan but with the slight buff they have received and a t2+ weapons mod, they can sting. Especially un-modded NPCs

I've always used turrets with the Python (except for the nose gun). It still lets me fight off small stuff (like Vultures), but dropships and AI Pythons (which somehow manage to out-turn me?) I just run, now.

1 turret ~= 1/2 gimballed, but that includes power draw so if you use a lot of turrets you can sustain a pretty good DPS.

Back in the club with a C-Rated mining Python.

Something about a slow, c-rated python miner just feels like a gritty asteroid belt mining ship.

I'm not pleased when I get destroyed in 6.3 seconds by an NPC FdL.

I'm with you, the Python is a fantastic ship and can do everything at once, but it is not very maneuverable even w/ F/A off. It is also slow loaded. With the new update, I am constantly getting interdicted by elites every other time I use it. I spend too much time running away and too close to getting caught. It is mostly parked until they sort out this upgrade. I was blown up before they toned down the NPC AI. FD acknowledged the instant death bug and reimbursed me the buy back. Still they won't do that too often, I imagine. I spend most of my time in the FAS.

So I finally got rank 3 dirty drives on her, and what a difference they make! With my cargo hold half full, I hit boost speeds around 382 which is easily enough to outrun most ships. I tried doing the turret thing, but it didn't work for me, so now I'm flying with 3 large gimballed pulses and 2 medium seeker missile racks (missiles got a big boost in this patch)

I've accepted the fact that the Python was essentially overpowered beforehand as it was amazing at all things. Now it's just less amazing in combat compared to a dedicated combat ship, as it should be. But with my speed and FSD boost, I'm flying this ship nearly exclusively as I hunt around for commodities, materials and rep gain missions to keep those sweet sweet engi upgrades coming.

So wait, what's your build now? You UNDER-classed your thrusters for better performance?

Yeah, I'm wondering about that. How far can you mod a python through engineers... And will it take more than 30 hours of solid grind?

a lot more than 30 hours if you want good rolls, and one single roll is around 2h to 10 hours depending on your luck.

Edit: not even counting unlocking and ranking with them...

Too much for me. I'd rather wait indefinitely for FD to realise that's not terribly fun. Shame that it's not a set of personal missions of increasing difficulty rather than grind and dice. Thanks for saving me realising this the hard way ;)

yea my advice is to wait till Frontier realise how painful, time consuming and random it is, then they should sort it out and that when you should go grind.

Grade 3 dirty drive upgrade got me 18.1% improvement (lucky bonus). Never tried phyton before famous nerf but I presume handling was similar to what I have now... Boost speed over 400 so running away isn't a problem anymore. Now let's visit shield lady to see what can we do regarding shields :)

You could probably get shields in the 1500 MJ region (shield mod + 4 modded boosters) but rebuild and recharge times will be substantial (15 mins approx to full charge) the FDL in Beta was so long it was quicker to dock and use station power for charging than wait around in space.

Reinforced shields take a hit on broken regen and regen rates couple that with up to 250% + shield boosters and you'll be waiting a while for full charge ;)
