Ships Python Owners' Thread

One idea I picked up from another commander is to use a Sidewinder as a place marker at the last station before you exit "known space"/the bubble it means you can see at a glance where you've been on the gal map, remember you can run into a patch of non scoopable stars so check the star type before you commit to a route.

Yes definitely a great all rounder, although I've only used it for combat so far.

How much are you folks earning a week in this ship with your chosen play profession?

Ive been earning about 120-150 million a week at compromised Nav beacons but that is with a Rating 5 which gets double bounty. Is that kind of amount possible with trading or mining with max cargo capacity?

I have a pristine metal ring just outside the door of my home station with lots of the three P's as well as Gold and Osmium and was averaging over a million credits an hour on my Asp Explorer with 76 - 84 ton capacity. I have only done one trip with the Python of 204 ton and ended up with 3.4million for around three hours so I would reckon that I can average better than a million an hour with the Python as I don't have to return to unload as often as I did with the Asp. If I want to I can also do a double header on the Python which would boost up the kitty pretty fast but that isn't what I am interested in really, (see above). So seven days a week with the occasional double and you could easily gross around 30 million credits. No comparison to your bounty hunting I suppose but then it is certainly a lot less stressful and I find it very relaxing just chilling and listening to some good music on the hi-fi.

I had worked long and hard for my new Python; weeks in fact. It gives me a way to transport around 200 PP like the Transport type 7, but has some firepower to fight if I get interdicted. I am in a bad way at the moment and am waiting for Frontier to get back to me. I had just finished fully upgrading it and was trying to get a feel for the trick on how to fly it. I was used to the super maneuverability of my Vulture so I needed some practice with this new larger beast ;) Just about an hour ago I got blown up while in combat doing some bounty hunting. I was a bit annoyed, but wasn't worried since I always make sure to have enough credits to buy it back by paying the insurance cost. I went through the insurance screen and literally screamed when the next thing I knew I was at the starting point of the game in a Sidewinder!!! :eek: My Python was worth over 130 million credits the way I had it decked out and I couldn't believe that what was probably a simple mistaken click could have lost it so easily.! I have asked Frontier for help because honestly this mistake has left a bitter taste in my mouth. I don't even understand why there is the option to not pay the insurance cost if you have it. Oh sure, I'll just throw away dozens or even hundreds of millions of credits! I just wrecked and totaled my Ferrari, but I would just love it if you would instead give me a 50cc scooter to replace it! I have heard good things about Frontier helping the players out on such problems, so I have high hopes.

Elite Dangerous lives up to it's name and I feel your pain... but not as much you did...
When I bought my first Python I had no idea the amount of $$$+ it would cost me to make it more than just "stock"... I hadn't planned my purchase well in advance. "Then" I didn't plan my first sale of one and forgotten that I wouldn't get as much back as I paid for it once I had made that python leap into one.
And So...
I moth balled it in my shipyard and made my way up from a Sidewinder to, now a buffed out Cobra, "who's sales price will still not cover all of what's needed + insurance + $ left over for buying any cargo to haul in the Python.
In the end...
I now have about 60 more missions to go in my Cobra in order to sell it and finally take out my Python from my shipyard.
"Buying a Python takes planning!!!!"
I feel your pain... and I'm happy to hear you got it back from customer service (for whatever reason) ;)
I bought mine early when customer service wasn't so nice about those mistakes.
I also bought my Python before they nerfed it down... which was my second let down after purchasing one... The cost of the fuel before the nerf was amazingly high "and I wonder now if that consumption level, or damage repair pricing was adjusted after the nerf".
I've been out of Elite Dangerous about 9-10 months or longer due to a glitch, which I'm happy they've now fixed.
So I'm back playing again :) But still waiting till I can take out my Python fully loaded with firepower and insurance.

Does anyone receive a higher amount of rammings than they have had on other ships from NPCs? I certainly do. I came from the FAS to the Python and noticed it straight away.

Especially when I'm in conflict zones, compromised navs or military strike zones I get rammed quite often sometimes when I'm not even in a fight with one of the NPCs. Python NPCs seem to be the worst offenders!

Well I've spent more time in a Python than any other ship in my 9 months, but these days I'm running into issues so I thought I'd ask you gents for suggestions.

I most recently tried an armour-only build. http://coriolis.io/outfit/python/26...6.Iw19gDNZA===.EwBjEYU8ZsNtcwg=?bn=Cuirassier
It's a ton of fun, but as the armour hardly protects modules I end up losing the canopy with 75% hull remaining, and sometimes other more crucial modules. Apparently, even in the 34th Century, glass is still just glass :|

The last time I tried out a shielded full-PvE combat build, the heat issues from the "improved" large SCBs was fairly staggering. So now I've set up so I have 2 heat sinks (8 shots) to my 10 SCB shots. The other thought I had was 3 heat sinks (12 shots) to 3 5A SCBs (12 shots), but that would drop base shields and per-shot MJ to the point that I'm not sure the recharge from an SCB shot could keep up with incoming damage in extreme cases.

Thoughts?

(And no, I'd rather not switch to pulses. I just don't like them).

Although I haven't tested it yet I've fitted an AFMU to several of my combat ships (FAS, Vulture and FDL), it's intended to have enough capacity to repair the canopy in the field and perhaps a few essential systems.

I'm not an SCB user myself but the best thermal performance I've got from a Python was by utilising every last MW from the powerplant, so all the energy goes into modules your shielded setup runs just over 90%, I'd drop the sensors and life support to D and perhaps some smaller SCB's

Why only A6 Power Plant?

I can give you 29835705 (@15% discount) reasons ;), in my armed trader Python I use an A5 as it runs cooler at 25 - 26%, it's lighter and keeps the insurance at sensible levels I never seen the point of over specing any ship in ED I'd rather have more ships (currently 10 and counting ! :))

In my python build, I have 2x SCB and 1x Heat sink. I find that taking a little bit of heat damage is worth it for keeping the shields up. In addition, unless your ship is constantly overheating for a long time, you won't notice the heat damage. In short, all you need is one heat sink launcher, use them until they run out but when you use a SCB without the heat sinks, you really won't notice the tiny amount of heat damage.

Apologies if that was confusing or I did not fully answer your question. -CMDR Kbear

Nothing confusing there ;)

It's not so much the heat damage that concerns me, but the malfunctions that arise from repeatedly overheating within a relatively short time. Perhaps malfunctions are less likely now in the latest version, but at one time I had one weapon and my FSD malfunction without ever losing shields, just from overheating to ~150% repeatedly with 6A SCBs.

I rarely have to use all my 10 SCB, so by the time I am out of heat sinks I might only have to use one or two more SCB's before heading back in, the 10 SCB's are just a precaution. I personally have never had an issue with overheating malfunctions, but maybe it could be happening but I have been getting lucky.

While i did own an Anaconda for a while and since about an hour i got my hands on an Imperial Cutter i still have my Python sitting there as reserve ship. I even used it to fly to SgrA* and it brought me savely back.

The Python currently sits at an interessting position. While there are ships that outclass it in every aspect, none of them is as versatile and efficient as the Python. U can do allmost anything with it without the need to switch even the fitting.
My current build looks like this:
http://coriolis.io/outfit/python/27...022f24.Iw18eQ==.Aw18eQ==?bn=Razor's Kiss MK V

It virtually can do anything i want it to (expect PvP, i dont do that in general in E-D).

On the other side, i think the game would realy benefit if the Python had a bit more competition around its price point. Especially i would like to see an imperial vessel in the same range with the ability to land on outposts.

Wholeheartedly agreed. I don't particularly care if its Imperial (8 rank-required ships ingame is enough, IMO), but something in the midrange would be nice, instead of two monsters (which are fine, in and of themselves) and a bunch of low-end ships whose apparent roles are already filled.

"PT-76" Python Torpedo Boat

:eek: ((New Owner Cargo Player))
---------------------------------------
Here's the stats on my Python named "PT-76" (Python Torpedo Boat)
2 = Turret E-2 Beam Lasers (top forward mounted)
3 = Pylon Torpedo Racks I-2 (2 topside, 1 below)
3 = Point Defense (2 topside, 1 below)
1 = Chaff (belly mounted)
-------------------------------
Internals;
Power Plant = B-6
Thrusters = B-6
Frame Shift = A-5
Life Support = A-4
Power Distributor = B-7
Shield Gen = A-5
Fuel = 32
Cargo Capacity = 256
Docking Computer
Around 4 Mil for Insurance
--------------------------------
The Turret Beams seem to do well for smaller targets.
The Torpedoes fire together releasing 3 Torpedoes at once and can be fired twice = meaning 3-6 Pylon Torpedo Volley Fire for larger targets or nasty ones.
It makes a fine PT Boat and the cost of the Pylon Torpedoes is about 1/4th of what I make on each short cargo run, so it's really not that expensive for reloading.
The Pylon Torpedoes travel in a "V" formation with one being well ahead of the others on impact.
The forward topside Beam Lasers have a better field of fire when placed forward because that portion of the ship sits up higher than the rear, giving more clearance over the center top roof deck.
and that's all there is to the... "PT-76" :D
Around 77,500,000 cr without Insurance...
Whatcha' Tink? :rolleyes:

The python reminds me of the millennium falcon in some ways.... can take a beating, can be used for smuggling, not a large ship and can dish it out to all classes. Ok its not the fastest ship in the galaxy but it can move. As for pvp I'm not really a pvp'er in open but when you get griefed by a FAS like me today I walked away with a 500k bounty and 20% hull remaining.

I will be keeping this ship along side the cutter when eventually get the rank I need and I will turn it in to an a class python. The only thing I can't decide on is the paint scheme..... I change it every other day!!!!

I know your problem. I also can not decided what color my Python should have. Got the Tactical Paint Pack and the Black Friday one, can not choose which one looks best (although i tend to Tactical Ice or Graphite).
