Ships Python Owners' Thread

That's why I don't like those slow shooting guns..they give the opponent too much time and a relaxed feeling... It's true you don't need too much pips to wep with them and can use those to boost shields, but..I don't know-feels a passive, defending build to me. Plus I don't trust fps games with RNG engine (if 1 bullet can't do it, 1000 will certainly manage) ;)

2 MCs(L)+2 Pulses(M)+ 1 PA/Rail/etc(L) and a bit closer range is my preference. During the reload time PA/Rail/whatever can provide enough cover and dmg..but you did more than good!

P.S. how is FDL manoeuvrability, compared to Python? Your build is close distance shotgun type...not sure if Python is agile enough to dictate the fight in such area..

Fdl is far faster and more agile. If they don't want to be in close and they know what they're doing, you just won't get in close. That's sorta why I want to make my weapons more mid range (pacifiers hit a bit farther than frags).

So.. this is my progress so far.. I got tired of the pulses doing poor damage, or eating all my power. So i've gone for a blunt force tool. All multicannons. Its way more fun (for me), managing ammo is a pain, but it rips apart a lot of npcs and the sustained dps is pretty good with 1 pip in weapons. It does require a LOT of energy management, but I think that helps me learn more.

So here she is so far..

What is holding me back at the moment is a lack of a good G5 DD roll. If I can get that unlocked an on the ship it will make a huge difference. I saw one chap had a G5DD python and he could move faster and turn better than me while having a mass of 930-940 tonnes.

That difference is huge. It would mean a whole new level of hitpoints for me or equipment.

Thats the dream I aspire to. Next on the hit list after is making a full set of cannons and a full set of lasers with various disco effects and try out which ones I like best. So far, I am enjoying brute force.. so the cannons are calling me. I'm also very tempted to try fixed multicannons soon, the more im getting the hang of things

Thoughts welcome!

Armed trader, unladen it's a decent BH ship but fully loaded it does get a bit sluggish hence the turrets for small targets.

I thought I wanted a FDL but I don't pvp and just started messing with pve (I'm at novice rank) so I went with the Python. I put together an armed trader pretty similar to what you've put together. I really need to upgrade the thrusters when I have the cash. She's kind of a slug. I've not gotten out to a RES or CZ to see how well it does in combat. Although I did take it out for a imperial navy pirate kill mission but it was to get lvl1 ranking so it was no contest. Just a bunch of novice eagles so the python shredded them easily. But so far I'm like this ship. I think I made a good decision. :D

Buddy of mine has quite a nice Combat Python:

I've bought this famous beast and have strapped some mods on.

1. The thing I like the most? The cozy cockpit. I like the dimmed light, and that it looks so lived in. It's not too futuristic, shiny and glassy and not too closed, battered and gloomy. Great, it's probably my favorite ship interior in the game.
2. The rest? Lol, it's simply bad game design, the ship makes so many others obsolete... It's not just that it can do so many things at once, it's that it makes them better than so many other ships. I hope Fdev will find the courage to nerf it more in the future, although I'm not sure they will, so many people fly only this one ship for everything they need...

I would like to love it, but it's just... ugh.

Decided after the last bout of engineering that I need to collect some mats (specifically the sort acquired through combat) so I outfitted my Python with collector limpets, a small amount of cargo and a different weapons package (2 Pacs, 2 multies and a Pulse turret). Before setting it out on its task (being a hazard at the Haz Res, doing assassination missions, investigating uss, taking on salvage missions, making small deliveries where NPCs will come after me and generally anything involving combat and the use of collector limpets) I was lucky enough to run into a buddy who was also testing an unusual build so we decided to test together.

The dual purpose combat mission/mat collection build works well.

Love the look of the ships but is it worth buying the kit to add wings and bumpers etc.? Does it improve the dynamics of the ship?

I guess its personal preference is'ent it i thought that i would like the add on's for the ship so i payed the money it dosent improve the abilities of the ship just the look.

Made me a small mission runner:

https://eddp.co/u/2jsrm85J

Does almost everything there is to do in game. It's disgusting! :D And the talk about it being sluggish are just wrong. It's perfect with DD 5 in the blue zone. Hell, even the maneuvering thrusters are spot on. Very good for smuggling because it stays very maneuverable and brakes fast when going fast. Pretty much the most boring ship I have for going fast into the slot, cause it just does it without any problem. The SC agility is also decent, feels better than in my Asp.

Oh well. I guess the other ships are obsolete :D

I just don't like it's big rear. But I guess a nice squadron paintjob could do wonders. White appears more sleek :D

So, to the guys, who have it. Is the rear also white in the Squadron paint jobs or are the gray, plasticky areas staying? I couldn find any picture.

I bought a Python last night. I had one in early beta days but could not afford to outfit it properly or the rebuy so it sat at my home base for weeks while I flew other ships. I ended up selling it to buy something else and never looked back until the last few days. I recently got my first FDL and after reading all the latest on the Python, I could not resist the temptation any longer (so now I have both).

I have it set up as a mission / passenger runner. Imho, its one of the finest looking ships in the game.

I'd better put my name here as well. Just bit the bullet and purchased this beautiful beast yesterday. Already done some engineering on FSD and thrusters. Coming from a well engineered DBX this is taking some getting used too, but all that storage space is beautiful. Plus with the ship kit it looks like a dragster. Now come the Weapons. Mine's primarily for mission/exploration but a few RES can't hurt right? Yes i have rebuy, or it wouldn't leave the garage :D

Mine is primarily a armed trader that also pulls material gathering and light exploration duty. While doing ranking missions and such, if I saw a tasty looking haz res or CNB I was not above dropping in just to break up the grind a bit. :)

Oh, and welcome to the club! :)

Welcome to the club!

To be honest, my Python hasn't seen that much of space yet. I've so far used it for the Trade CG where the dropoff point was an Outpost and my plan has been to use it for the higher-ranked trade missions, since those often have higher cargo caps. I've got a couple potential armed trader setups in my notes but I'm a little leery of going pew pew with her, just due to the insurance rebuy.
