Question for Open players who don't like PVP/ganking... help me understand

If you ever saw how much it screws up instancing for us when it comes to legit PvP and the way some people choose to abuse it, you might be a bit more understanding.
I personally don't really have a problem with it although I wish players would use my gank evasion training or learn how to survive instead but it is what it is.

Thank you. I really appreciate it.
I truly think the relationship between gankers/pvpers and the rest of the community needs to change and we all need to unite instead of hating each other.
Well I have to say you have been quite shining beacon on ganker side, reasonable and fun :)

loooooooooooooooooool two monuments.

I used to play a game seven or so years ago with @Red Anders and I owned a carrier in the game and it wasn't uncommon to get chased way outside the map by 90% of the opposing faction on out server. More than once we did similar things like suiciding or turning round and wiping out the few that just wouldn't give up.

This is true; however 22K LY does surpass anything we achieved on that score 😁 The carrier situation is just gravy lol. I'm assuming this was Phisto and the boys from SPEAR. Quality trolling.

Getting chased 22k out the bubble and suiciding so they cant catch him is legendary trolling.

They (someone) did show their faces on here, claiming it a massive victory. I believe they posted a video. It was rather like celebrating the fact you stood on someone's toe despite your face being covered in their filth.

To add insult to injury, because of the Colonia tritium crisis, their carrier is now stuck out there too.

Police badges are no good for mining? Ha!

I mentioned this in another thread, but it also seems appropriate here..

Before online gaming was a big thing, LAN parties were a thing. Sometimes I'd have 10-20 stashed around the house, power and network cables all over the place... Sometimes I went to large, organised events.. One thing all LAN parties had in common? Gankers/griefers. Now, depending on the event, such players might simply find their MAC blocked from the network.. Others I've seen beaten. One guy, a real charmer, was tied to a pole so he could watch his hardware being auctioned off. Got a nice SB card for $5. I saw one guy get tossed out the door with his PC and 21" Sony CRT right behind him.. LAN parties were great, they were a legit social event, something that online gaming fails to be.

So, yeah, their was ganking at LAN parties, but it was considered antisocial and dealt with rapidly - and often painfully for the ganker. Now, in Elite, I have an option to deal with them, the block feature, which is just as effective as the old ways, but a lot less satisfying. Although seeing some of the reactions in here to mention of its use makes me reconsider the satisfaction level.

So let me get this straight. Your response, and you enjoyed it, was to see someone beaten for a video game. Their equipment destroyed or stolen from them. You participated in all this, then admit it proudly? Yep gankers are the sociopaths folks. Nothing at all like the upstanding players who admit to assault, kidnapping, vandalism and theft IRL in response to a video game.

We just need to find out what it is that really divides us, then find the things that don't. A conversation like this one is a good first step :)
Communication is key. Solely from my perspective, I see the victims of gankers come to the forums, call gankers names and give armchair diagnosis's of ganker mentality, gankers fire back with more name calling and "git gud", and around and around it goes until everyone just hates each other. And if you go back and look at my old comments, I used to do the same thing but then one day I just decided to try being really fudging nice to everyone, to show that gankers aren't actually bad or mean people in person and I think it's safe to say I've been fairly successful with this approach so far.

We actually all have a lot in common, I mean we're all playing the same game after all, so why not seek to find that common ground. I'm utterly shocked at how many players, who have previously said many nasty things about gankers, reach out to me and askes for PvP training, or advice with something.

I honestly think it starts with us gankers. We need to stop acting like the cruel and heartless people everyone thinks we are and start acting like the kind and helpful people we truly are.

Me too, my friend, just from the other side of the equation. Not my proudest moments, I'd have to say.

But, you live and learn. :)

Why not indeed?

Nope. You haven't attacked me ever. And my rule set is quite simple attack without comms -> block. Attack without valid reason ->block. For the lulz is not valid reason :)
Is a gank evasion test a valid reason? :ROFLMAO:

I fully support people who do not want to experience unwanted PVP to use the block function, if they feel it helps tailor their experience. It's an in-game tool meant for that purpose. If it helps to make Open better for them, then I'm all about it.

Using blocks when you are or claim to be a PVPer seems sad, though I suppose everyone has their reasons.

I mean, this is what I've been doing, thanks directly to feedback from "non gankers" in this thread, and it's been hugely impactful - in a very positive way - for my gameplay experience and at least a majority percentage of those with whom I've "interacted."

So, yeah, you're right, and I agree. And I'm trying to walk that talk.

Speaking of gankers trying to do good in the game... my homebase, the fleet carrier Mother of all Ganks, owned by the one and only CMDR ACowForAllSeasons, my Sith Lord, mentor, and good friend, just so happens to be making a trip out to the Rosette Nebula tomorrow (Thursday), so new players can get their 5000LY journey to unlock Palin out of the way.

This is the same thing that Cow did for me a couple months' back, and he's done it now 2 or 3 times for other players.

We'll be doing stock Sidewinder PVP in the pauses between jumps, for anyone interested. Or just climb aboard and park till we arrive. See vile gankers up close and personal, decide for yourself what kind of monsters they actually are.

Who knows, you might have fun?
