Re: Python Frustrateables

IF your talking about images- this forum want *.jpg more than anything else. The standard *bmp won't upload for me at all I have to convert every image I take to jpg and png.
Thank you. I like the imagur account and copying the links to my notepad then copy the whole lot to the post.

If you are talking screenshots... having EDDiscovery running minimised while playing (if you haven't tried EDD yet, give it a go!) will allow all of your screenies to be converted (a tick in preferences) and saved ready to upload direct.

Also welcome, I've only been playing ED for around a year and reading your posts reminded me of 'the good old days' - it took me several months to search for out of game resources like this site... But I did rack up some impressive insurance claims :)

EDDiscovery I will be seeking that out soon.. Discoveries made in the lady few days is in the dozens now.. Crazy amount of help and quick aswel

Another suggestion for you @PaxtonNewt - gather mats in the new Interstellar Initiative - not only will you pick up some Guardian goodies on the way, but if you explore the Degraded USS Threat 0's you can pick up loads of manufactured mats from G1-3.
Playing solo for the first outing may be wise....

In general the community, when asked nicely, will deliver the goods in heaps - negative responses generally only follow negative posts.
I'm happy to join you (my alt account - main is on the way to colonia (again), to get blown up by Bigmaec & Phisto, as I threw a gauntlet at them...) in poodling around gathering mats or whatever if that'd help too :)

ETA: Also in VR on Rift

I'm terrible for discovering things in games without instructions in writing. Unless it is 3d design software like max maya blender etc that's where my pervious life was but its a distant memory now. Elite dangerous is my child hood dream come true but I didn't realise the scope of this game. Being on earth occasionally I felt small like an ant but inside elite dangerous I truly feel small. The game is incredibly big. I'd go as far to say that because we inhabit it virtually and have access to it is actually bigger than our own physical universe because we as mere mortals only have access to planet earth and not much of it. Being able to fly out beyond our solar system using VR the ultimate illusion is feel yourself being somewhere else which I get in elite dangerous. The game is so big that I don't have enough life left in my aging body to ever get to the centre of our galaxy but I will try.. Something I could never do on earth. Two universes have collided here and being able to drift in and out of both just gets me fired up.. And now I'm meeting some amazing people who have been so helpful and kind. Life is good again.. No longer do I have to go trawling for parts. Buzzing
Your thread emphasises the need, the really urgent need, for FD to put some more training guidelines into this game.

I'm Triple Elite now, but without reading advice in this forum, asking for advice here, and making bumbling mistakes early on and coming back and reading about what I did wrong, I would still likely be struggling with many aspects of the game and might have left it through frustration.

FD, the ball is in your court, because I'm sure not all new players have time to read through your forums. And you will lose them before they really get beyond their first Python.

Of course, it could be argued that there are many YouTube guides out there, and there are many good ones that will train early players, but it is not an excuse for the lack of training material that should be pumping out from FD. They must have resources to do this, but the will is lacking.

Thanks for highlighting my thread for emphasis. There are indeed a few guides on YouTube but they all feel a little bit too advanced for the beginner. We have noddy guides at work which have step by step processes to get the job done. Since this is a space simulator a nasa type manual would be great. But that's just my opinion. Watching YouTube videos is a great way to learn but you miss an awful lot because unless you are competent at the unseen stuff the navigation I have witnessed around menus can result in a lot of rewinding and repeat and trying to understand the mind of the player you are watching.

I found I learned a lot in the early days, just by watching videos by Isinona ..... he doesn't speak, but types a brief commentary about what he is doing as he flies some tricky stuff as he blazes his own path. No showing off (though he flies FA Off only) but entertaining as well as instructive. It is helpful to see how he gets the most out of the game's own mechanics.

And I am still learning from him !

Worth a look. His videos go way back in the game, yet somehow they don't lose their relevance to the latest update.
This is a typical one ... once you've subscribed to one, you can select which ones you wish to watch:

His latest one (he is producing videos again after a long break) is :

I’ve got mine fully equipped with a 5a FSD and guardian booster and I get 39. Without the booster it’s about 28.5 I think so you’re doing something wrong.

I've been busy tonight. I've been back to deciat with a 5a fsd.. Engineered to stage 2 of 5..need materials now to complete that blue print. I then flew to various stations buying what was recommended by the website that let's you know what and where to buy and then took a 6 jump flight to SOL rather than a 50 jump flight. I'm now running at 32.86ly in my python so I'm well happy. Thanks for all the advice on engineering my ship. I want to finish building up the fsd but there is no rush for that. I've got my list of mats needed and I've seen a few as rewards for missions but some I will need help determining the best route to get them. I'll post a new topic for that

Great news ! This is the best way to do the engineers ... a bit at a time and play the game your way .... you will come across mats to scoop up or earn for missions and these can all be traded or used directly for later upgrades. Now you can get to Felicity Farseer's base without too much stress. :)

BeJebus on a hippy bus.

Ok, FSD is not your first call. Doing that ahead of everything else just lets you think how far you could have jumped, if you hadn't died.

Priority:
1. Shields. Short term, normal shields to G5,
2, Shield boosters, 2 Heavy, 2 resistance - G5
3, weaps. Personally, MC's G5 with incendiary, O/C and corrosive. But pulse / beam are an option (not for me) and some packhounds, G5 with specials. Packhounds are Power Play only, sign up and do the 4 week penance. Worth it though, select the secondary wisely.
4, Shields, long term, prismatics, sign up to the power and grind, but really only in the last week.
5, MRP & HRP
6, tradering, mining? Think about optimal load outs.

FSD is the least important element at your stage of the journey.

I disagree with you on that point. With an improved FSD, you get around to achieve things, missions, seeking mats etc. more quickly. He doesn't have to engage in combat immediately, nor should he in that ship.

He's doing it the right way, having improved his FSD jump range from about 14 to 35, which is a big improvement in quality of flight without grinding out the full improvement all at once. Now he can concentrate on improving his ship gradually.

G5 FSD, jump far.
Standard shields in open, die at location.
Jump and die or upgrade and survive? Distance on FSD is like willy wanging, it ain't what you got, its the way that you do it, that's what gets results....

Then how did I manage to get the most enjoyment from long jump range with stock 3A shields running around in open for so long? Even based out of deciat for a bit. Lei Cheung took such a grind to unlock that he was the last engineer I unlocked so far.

Heh, was just about to post something related...

What you really need is a mat' scavving ship.
An AspX does the job pretty well: https://s.orbis.zone/3265

Detailed Surface Scanner for locating raw mat's on a planet surface.
SRV for collecting raw mat's and encoded mat's.
Collector Controller for collecting manufactured mat's.
Cargo rack for holding limpets.
Shield in case you bump into anything (you won't be getting shot at).
Fuel Scoop in case you need to refuel.
Wake Scanner for collecting encoded mat's.

With a ship like that you can collect every mat' you'll ever need.

Course, you can fit roughly the same stuff to any ship but the AspX has other, erm, benefits that will become apparent as you become more knowledgeable.
Fanks for the info.. I look forward to discovering the benefits of aspx

I also agree.. Without a decent jump range to much time is spent jumping. I've actually had a few sessions on ED where all I've done is jump jump jump jump jump jump jump.. Now I can do a few jumps and crack on with other things (which I'm finally going to start learning)

Jump range is a basic requirement imo.
