Re: Python Frustrateables

Grouchy wouchy I can't believe I've been so stupid. I've dived into this game without asking for any help in the beginning. I hope folks can learn from my doing that. Don't just spend maximum amount of money on everything. Initially I purchased top dollar everything only to find im out of pocket and not going anywhere fast. A RATE FSD AND D EVERYTHING ELSE.. I will do that tonight and report back my results.

FWIW, here's a quick example of an okayish, basic, multirole Python build: https://s.orbis.zone/325e

Beyond that, a couple more websites which'll be useful.

EDDB: https://eddb.io/ (For help finding modules, planets, factions and stuff)
INARA: https://inara.cz/ (For pretty much EVERYTHING in ED - just not quite as straightforward as EDDB at times)
Canonn: https://canonn.science/ (For learning about everything that happens inside the game)

A couple of rules of thumb:-
Always fit an A-rated FSD (cos they give you the best range)
Always fit an A-rated Power Plant (cos they have the best thermal characteristics)

D-rated stuff is always the lightest but that's not always the most important thing.
B-Rated stuff is always the toughest but it's also the heaviest.

Also, it's easy to earn credits. It's not so easy to find engineering mat's.
Earn enough credits to buy the modules you WANT to fit to a ship rather than wasting mat's engineering modules that are "all I can afford right now".

Well, if you’ve got yourself into a Python and unlocked an engineer you’ve not done too badly! 👍
It took a long time to get to MAIA to get meta alloy then to DECIAT.. Totalling nearly 120 jumps due to some exploration on the way to both. If I can get my jump range to 30 I be happy. I like trading and passenger missions and exploration. I've not done a single attack on any other ship yet. I will learn to do mining soon and I am yet to figure out how to interdict someone. I'm just not good enough yet. I admit where my weaknesses are and thank you all for your much valued help

The engineering mats only through going back to ochosi - chapka loop I used to do my first rank up, had I have collected some of the courier job presents like grid resistors instead of cash I'd have a cargo hold full of them. I'm back of to ochosi soon so revisit the loop to see what goodies I can get. Unless someone can suggest a better way to get engineering mats

For close to 30ly in a fully ladden Python you need 5A FSD, fully engineered with Increased Range Grade 5 and Mass Manager as experimental.
You may also need to research and invest time in unlocking the Guardian FSD Booster. This thread is a good start. Once you unlock the FSD Booster you can fit it on any ship without the need to visit the guardian site ever again.

Also, I wouldn't fly that new half-built Python to Deciat in open play. Do it in solo...

In fact...

It may be worth building a little Hauler to visit Farseer and then pin the blueprint for the FSD. A Hauler can jump 30ly if you follow the A rate FSD/D rate everything else thing...

(Can also get to Maia in about 20 jumps, that’s got to be better than 120 right! 😊)

Alternatively, put a 5A FSD into a Diamondback Explorer, engineer it at Farseer, then drop shiny engineered FSD into the Python when you get back.

The Diamondback Explorer is an extremely useful ship for this kind of thing. To be honest, you may find yourself enjoying its jump range after engineering so much that you forget about your Python...

Excellent idea thanks. When I first went to SOL I used a little ship and brought my python back as I didn't have the facilities to fly it back by myself. It took 45 mins to transfer. I've got a lot of useful info in my head now which is going to make for a productive evening

That sounds really complicated. Solo is a much simpler endeavor
Maybe, but OP took 120 jumps to get to Maia. I get the feeling he’s never enjoyed a ship with high jump range before...

OP, check your galaxy map and make sure your route plotter is set to fastest route, NOT economical.

If you want to wing-up, we can head to a CZ/HasRES and I'll blow stuff up so you can collect the debris.
How do i use the cargo scoop.

Each time I come back to this forum I find another piece of advice. This is great. I'm sure I see the world through blurry eyes. I'm due for glasses soon. Where is the option to set fastest route

How on earth did you get to Python credits without knowing how to use the cargo scoop! You’re going to be needing that for engineering the FSD we’ve all been talking about!

Pretty sure it’s set to economical routes when you first get the game, probably so new CMDRs don’t instantly run out of fuel.

The problem is that newbies sometimes continue to play with gimped jump range for months... 😂

Heh, was just about to post something related...

What you really need is a mat' scavving ship.
An AspX does the job pretty well: https://s.orbis.zone/3265

Detailed Surface Scanner for locating raw mat's on a planet surface.
SRV for collecting raw mat's and encoded mat's.
Collector Controller for collecting manufactured mat's.
Cargo rack for holding limpets.
Shield in case you bump into anything (you won't be getting shot at).
Fuel Scoop in case you need to refuel.
Wake Scanner for collecting encoded mat's.

With a ship like that you can collect every mat' you'll ever need.

Course, you can fit roughly the same stuff to any ship but the AspX has other, erm, benefits that will become apparent as you become more knowledgeable.

I guess I'm a grinder then. I earned broker rank from courier missions only. It took many many hours of endless going back and forth between ochosi and chapka. I'm still stuck in a rut regarding a lot of the games potential. I've never shot a laser cannon. I've never mined. I've never cargo scoopered. I've never interdicted anyone. I've gotten where I am now through slow repetitive courier missions. I've lost my python 3 times and grinded the money back. Every now and again I've done some passenger missions but didn't realise about the red warning and got well and truly hammered for carrying illegal pax. I'm yearning to get into the mining and combat at some point.
