Shield generator mod advice needed.

So I'm on a mission to make and engineer the greatest python Ps4 has ever seen. It's gonna be a heavy multipurpose ship that is good at pretty much everything. I've got an amazing FSD, powerplant, distributor etc... But i have no idea what mod to use for the shield generator. i generally run on a private group with friends (so i guess it's PvE) and I don't usually fight, i just want the ship to be capable of kicking if need be. I don't know whether I should use resistance grade 5 or thermal resistance grade 5. I like my python to be a shield tank. Any advice?

Thanks in advance!

Thermal resistant shield, will pretty much immediately cancel out the thermal penalty, while dropping kinetic resistance a bit. You can then add resistance augmented shield boosters for even more resistances across the board with diminishing returns. Or add shield boosters with heavy duty mods to increase overall mj strength. I use thermal mod on every ship now, it's pretty great. I also prefer resistant shields over high mj shielding, but to each their own.

Someone else will be along shortly to tell you about reinforced shield mod :)

Thanks a lot. That's really helpful. Guess i better go gathering materials then![smile]

I might have misunderstood or misheard something in that Yamiks video, is he suggesting his best Shield build for a Python would be Reinforced based, with 3 HD Boosters and only one Aug Resist? Because his Thermal resist profile is only a bit above 10%, that's laughable against lazors (which are pretty common in NPCs)… I'd go with G5 THERMAL on the shield gen, three G5 Resistance Augmented and one HD on the Boosters.

Yeah it can work, but Yamiks' fit is far from optimal.

I don't think a Python absolutely needs shield boosters for PvE, A-rated shield or bi-weave with good G5 thermal resist roll is usually sufficient against NPCs.

Your not hearing about reinforced, which imo is not a thing of the past, because there are a lot of threads about this. I would do a search because cmdr's are probably getting a bit tired of saying the same thing. I personally have reinforced with 1 thermal booster and the rest hd. My thermal is low but I will ask this question again. Does it really matter ? Do we really fear a thermal attack? o7 and fly dangerous

"I suggest looking elsewhere because x solution has been proven for so long"

Someone please let me know if I've missed some hidden wisdom here, because it ain't clocking with me.

Shields are thermal resist or nothing. If you want to bolster your capacity do it using heavy duty boosters and save shooting yourself in the foot with reduced regen rates with shields both up and broken, and the increased distributor draw. The sheer amount of thermal resist gained normally makes up for the extra capacity anyway, and allows for convenient follow-up boosting as kinetic/thermal resistances should be roughly equal.

Anyone who has played the game for a while knows anything Yamiks says is far from optimal.
