Good question! I don't know what I think yet, I need to read up on it more. One thing I was wondering about was the impact it would have on Mauritius as I expect a LOT of people would suddenly want to flock there to see it. Sudden excessive tourism tends to have a negative impact on places.I also read this. Do you guys think it is ok to bring back extinct species?
Oh yeah I follow a few on instaI was today years old when I learned there are domestic foxes. Now I want one!![]()

The British hunted the bird to extinction relatively recently though (late 1600s, just yesterday in terms of evolution timelines) so there is greater argument for bringing it back than, say, anything prehistoric. I expect they have done research on the impact it would have on the ecosystem but sometimes we only realise devastating things in retrospect.
Oh that's a shame. Well we haven't had this one very long, it might still be moved. Thing is how can they define off-topic? This is for more natural conversation which is sometimes on and sometimes off topic, and its here to help the other threads stay on topic. Hope we get to keep it.Funny, when I made such a chat especially for the PZ community, it was moved to Off-Topic and logically died off there. I could never understand the mod decision back then, especially considering that we got a LOT of other non-PZ related Off Topics threads here.
Must have been something personal. glad to see times have changed and we are allowed to have such a thread in our section of the community.
Add some domesticated bats and wombats then you've got your own twilight pack at home.Oh yeah I follow a few on instathey look hard to keep though! But yeah, if it was in no way cruel to the animals I'd have a raccoon, a fox and a skunk
Wow that's beautiful.
I feel like that's the same argument as sating. It fine if we don't reintroduce any Scimitar horned oryx and let them die out. Because there's like 20 other antelope that fill the same neiche so who cares.I also don't know much on the subject. In a way it just seems selfish to me. Bringing back extinct animals because it is exciting and for our pleasure. I mean I don't think there are other reasons. Even if they would fullfill some critical role in the ecosystem. There are enough other animals like them still alive today. I think focusing on what is still alive today and protect it at all costs is way more important.
