SleepyDelegate's Chronicles - taking the DBX around the Galaxy

It wont get much nicer than this... Im probably as high above the plane as I can get... Using the neutron boost, I got to this place, where the main star is massive black hole (30 Sun masses) and the only way out of here is by using FSD boost to back to the nearest neutron star...

BTW, is there a way to measure how high above galaxy plane I am?

I'm not 100% sure but in the galaxy map, if you have the grid turned on and the map tilted so you can see the vertical Z(?) axis lines you should be able to work out almost exactly the distance above Sol of the plane your star is on. Is that how people do it? (or do they calculate their distance above Sag A*, if that's different).

Edit: I asked around a bit more - I think people just take their grid co-ordinate on the galaxy map - for example X, -500, Y would be 500 ly below the galactic plane.

Thank you, that is exactly what I was looking for... So I am now 2403 ly above the galaxy plane, resp. above Sol... Not bad, considering it was not my intention to find the highest possible system... Now I feel tempted to go even higher, but there is no other system above me in quite a broad vicinity...

So I guess I will make it my side goal... The main goal now is to find undiscovered GGG... (y)

A Neutron Star system with Earth like World and 4 terraformable HMC...

And another one, where there is a Neutron Star, a White Dwarf, terraformale HMC and a terraformable Water World...

I have found this system where there are three black holes and 5 other stars orbiting the first black hole... I have traveled 650k ls to visit the black hole pair to see the two BH close to each other, just to find out, that this pair is 25k ls from each other... What a dissapointment... :)

25kls, yeah that sounds about right given the semi major axis in your screenshot...

When you've got a binary pair of bodies like that the SMA listed is for its orbit of the two body barycentre, so you'd expect the distance between them to be up to anything from about that to about double that, depending on the mass ratio.

38.5AU is ~19kls so 25kls is within that expected range.

I guess the problem is I havent even looked at the SMA... Ive got a lot to learn... Thank you!

I'm devastated... Two days ago, after three weeks of searching, I have finally managed to find a system more than 3000ly above the galaxy plane, that was not yet discovered and was reachable with my DBX with possibility to get back (using synthesised FSD boost). I jumped there, explored, made screenshots to prove me being there and then continued my exploration trip close to 3000ly above the plane level...

Yesterday, I have discovered some really cool systems, one of them had bio signals, so I went there to explore... I landed on that planet, did some driving around in my SRV, collected some materials and went to bed...

Today is rainy outside, so I thought I will start exploring bit earlier. I logged in, did some additional material collecting, drove up to a mountain near this bio site and recalled my ship. Boarded the ship, spun up the engines and decided to leave, when I spotted the sinuous tubers in my side window... I decided to do a last fly by, before I leave the planet. So I turned my nose down and headed towards the site...

What happened next was a combination of my stupidity and clumsiness. As I was approaching, after a long ride in my SRV and without flying today yet, I somehow confused the controls and instead of levelling up, I engaged thrusters down and hit the surface of the planet... And died...

All my data from the last 3 weeks, worth 300.000.000 credits, all the cool systems, me reaching the 3000ly system, everything is gone...

I'm so devastated, that I don't even want to play again... I was just staring at my monitor, mouth open in disbelief...

I guess everything will be OK after I sleep on it, heck, it is just a game... But at the moment, I'm just heartbroken... Such a stupid mistake...

I feel your pain Cmdr, commiserations. If its any consolation, I've had a couple of mishaps myself and can assure you that losing 3 weeks ain't such a big thing in the great scheme of things ;)

If so minded, you could ask FD to resurrect you or you could simply rebuy and repeat the last 3 weeks. For me, the latter, YMMMV..

Fly safer out there Cmdr...

Thank you Commander... :)

You're right, three weeks of data is not such a big deal... But honestly, I don't want to do it again... Thanks for the advice regarding FD support, I will give it a try... Hopefully they can return me back to where I died, so that I can continue my trip... If not, I will just go elsewhere... I did already re-buy my ship, but I so far I was not in a mood to fly... Maybe I will just go to see that mega ship, before I get a response back...

Thank you and fly safe! o7

Reporting in:

This is going to be a story, but continue reading, you will see Why timing matters... :)

I reached out to the support team during weekend..

Since I did not hear back from FD support, I thought maybe I'm just out of luck, so I decided to do the thing I was looking forward to for some time: to visit the Thargoid crashed vessel location and do some driving around...

What I've heard from people was, that if you have Guardian modules, any Thargoid you meet will attack you. So I went there, knowing that I have zero exploration data onboard, risking that in the worst case, they just blow my ship up and I will respawn at Jameson Memorial again... Seemed like a reasonable risk to me...

So I ploted a course, headed towards Pleiades and was ready for my first interception by Thargoids... But nothing happened... I reached the location and landed on the planet...

Immediately when I got in the vicinity of that crashed ship, I started hearing theses Thargoid sounds... Very cool... No ships on my radar, so I thought it is just part of the experience... After I got a bit closer, I got scanned, but nothing was on my radar... Scary... :)

Nevertheless, I landed safely and started exploring the crashed Thargoid ship.. Managed to scan the ship, it was a Cyclop, I also gathered some sensor fragments and parts, after I destroyed all the thargoid sensors I have found (I didn't want them to destroy my ship, as I have no corrosive resistant hull).

As I was driving around, an email hit my mailbox... Email from FD support team! :)

I felt super excited!!

I quickly replied, saying that all I care about is the exploration data, and asked them to keep the insurance costs... Not that it matters...

I happily drove around in my SRV, feeling lucky, when I realised, that I am on a Thargoid grounds and I have Guardian FSD booster... If I get interdicted by Thargoids now, after FD support returned my data, they will probably destroy me and I will lose it all again!:eek::eek::eek:

So I immediately boarded my ship and headed back to Jameson Memorial, hoping that I will make it before the data appears in my account... (futile attempt, because the data have already been returned by that point)...

Guess what? I jump towards the first system after leaving this crashed Thargoid ship, and I get interdicted by Thargoids... My heart stopped for a while... I was sitting there, thinking about what to do... Surprisingly, I was calm... I did not panic...

I'm siting there helpless, as Thargoids scanned my ship... After the ship came back online, I boosted away, Thargoids following me... They slowly changed formation, positioning themselves in front of my ship, keeping the distance and same speed as me...

We flew in this formation for 7 minutes... I lost my fear and scanned all three of them.. All three of them Basilisks... It was just very calm, non scary experience...

For a moment, I thought "Why are we fighting them?"...

I then selected my next waypoint and jumped out of the system, landing in my destination safely later on...

So that was cool... ;):)

I wonder how rare are two ELWs and two terraformable HMCs in a system with only a Neutron Star?

This Y dwarf has 5 Shepherd moons...

I have to say, that Vulcan Gate is extremely boring part of the space... No bio signals whatsoever... So I decided to continue towards Errant Marches, hoping that I would be more lucky there...

As I was leaving this boring space, entering EM, I thought "That would be cool if I discovered bio signals in the first system I visit here..."

Sure enough, in the first system, after entering Errant Marches, I have discovered bio signals... 350.000ls from the main system star, there are Ruthenium crystal shards...

I keep forgetting about this thread and then, whenever I remember it, it's always such a pleasure catching up on your recent adventures. Sorry to read about your little disaster but glad that you managed to recover your lost exploration data!

Thank you so much! :) I'm surprised someone actually reads my "exploration blog"... And happy as well! :)

Regarding that accident, the main reason why I was so upset about losing the data was my support for my faction... I became part of the Civitas Dei faction and since it is our national faction, and as I understand, one of the biggest factions in the ED universe, I was sorry for not being able to support our expansion...

Also, I was sorry to lose my +3000ly above the galaxy plane achievement... That took me a while, to find an undiscovered system, reachable with my DBX... :)

Now what I want to do now is to find a -3000ly undiscovered system, reachable with my DBX and then create a list called something along the lines of "Brotherhood of Icarus" or so - a list of people who managed to get 3000ly above and 3000ly below the Galaxy plane and return successfully...

So far I am having difficulties to find a system 3000ly below the plane... Could be because I am now in not very dense part of the space... ;)

Again, thank you for your kind words!
